Osimhen is a Lagos boy who sabi Yoruba pass Bini,so nothing special cuz he is a Nigerian and if CAF like they can hail him in Hausa,Igbo or any Nigeria languages.

I believe he is an Esan boy rather than Bini.

Even though I bet Victor speaks Yoruba more than any other language every day, CAF should really have used Pidgin English to avoid collecting wotowoto from Obidients on X.

To be fair, a few stupid, immature and badly brought up Yoruba people who have no home training were dragging the Ọba (gha tọ kpere baba).

However the good thing is they were held to account and called to order by others.

Compare this with how IPOBidients were frothing from the mouth because The Ọba went to pay a courtesy call to President Tinubu to remind him not to forget Benin people in his government. I didn't see any other IPOBidient calling themselves to order.

You are right though, IPOBidients do a lot of impersonating on Social media just to cause rancour between Yorùbá's and other tribes. Very shameful.

Her father is from Auchi, Edo State.
I don't know about her mother's state of origin

Victor himself caused it.......During the summer holiday last year he visited Nigeria and spent it in lagos.

He visited is former area, primary school and secondary school cos he was born and grew up in lagos.
He was speaking yoruba everywhere he went too.....he took it far by making comedy skit with woli arole speaking yoruba scatter.

He never visited edo or even identified with them......so that why CAF felt he is yoruba.

He was born in Lagos and grew up there. Osimhen speaks Yoruba like no one else bro... 😀

Ooni of Ife is an Edo man. His ancestor Izoduwa whose name was corrupted to Oduduwa was an Edo man.

Same in UNIBEN. Unless they tell you their surname, you wouldn't know their ancestry is not Yoruba.

Lagosian Igbo's for the most part hang around their fellow Lagosian Yorùbá's. In fact, they solely speak Yoruba to other Yorùbá's from other towns and you know what, no one bat's an eyelid about it.

I myself have never asked any Lagosian where their ancestry is, if it ever comes up in conversation, it will be them that volunteer to tell you.

We had an Owerri boy on the same course, the day my Lagosian Igbo friend told me he couldn't totally understand his Igbo shocked me. This is the same guy that has no problems understanding heavy Ekiti accents.


Where you grow up is a major determinant to how fluent you are in a language.

Also, there are variations in the Ibo language that could make it difficult to understand some 'thick Igbo accent/ variation/ dialect'...eg...The brand of Ibo spoken in some interior of Ebonyi differs from that spoken in Enugu... Just like Ijebu Yoruba is different from Egba Yoruba, yet both are Yoruba from the same state

I doubt even if Osimhen can speak Benin. He speaks Yoruba fluently. He is more of a Yoruba boy at heart than Benin. grin

Correct. Edo state has several provinces and tribes.

But Benin Kingdom is a territory under Yorubaland.

Osimbhen is not from Benin, he is from esan/ishan tribe in Edo state, but regardless we are one Nigeria

I get your point but the difference in Yoruba is in accent not meaning like in Igbo. The Yoruba moved from a central place and trace themselves back to same origin unlike in Igbo where some are not even ethnically Igbo but you lump them up as Igbo because they are located in South East. These groups ,like the Igala in Anambra, Enugu etc, even tell the whole world that they are not Igbo.

The Yoruba are significantly monolingual and monocultural

It very good to get gpod education.

Ask the Oba of Benin - (note the word Oba) where his crown came from. If you are courageous enough, ask him where his head will be buried after joining his ancestors.

Yorubas is the largest ethnic group in Nigeria, think about this and bow when you see the next Yoruba approaching you.
