Hello Nairalanders. Please I'm out for a new car. My initial choice was a 2016 Toyota Highlander or 2016 Lexus RX350, but the current prices for those cars are crazy so I'm considering cheaper options. I'm now looking at

1. 2018 Ford Edge
2. 2017 KIA Sorento
3. 2017 Hyundai Tucson

My preference is the Ford Edge because of it's interior and looks but I don't know anything about the car in terms of reliability. However, reviews I have seen here about Ford Edge aren't very encouraging with most talking about engine failure due to water pump. But I also noticed that most of the complaints are about the 2008-2012 models of the car. So I want to find out if anyone here has experience about the 2017/2018 models of Ford Edge and find out if it still has those issues. Please your opinions will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

After two months, it started writing "Low engine oil pressure level" on the dashboard.

I bought two litres of hardex to top it up but the warning won't go away and my car shuts down after three minutes of running..

.. remove all the engine oil and replace it with original motocraft synthetic engine oil 6litres, also buy motocraft oil filter. That will solve it..

You almost destroy the engine. If this should continue, the next problem would be cranking noise at cold starting, then VVT problems begin and engine power lose, so be ready to replace engine. You need to take quick action.

Even the so called motorcraft oil and motorcraft oil filter, claimed to be original are all fake everywhere at this period, one must be very careful.

I will add you to the group now. immediately you come, I would try to create time so that we could attend to this asap.

Ford edge/explorer 2011 - 2014 transmission are extremely durable and should anually be fluid serviced at minimum. People misconstrued the transmission malfunction (surges) at speed selection as electrical faults, solenoid or drive components and they conclusively replaced the entire transmission assembly.

You might also prefer Mazda CX-9. The CX-9 is Ford edge in disguise, 80% Ford edge spare parts:
Engine.
Front suspension.
Rear suspension.
Brakes.
AC.
Etc.

To prevent damage to your Ford transmission, strictly adhere to motorcraft transmission fluid recommendation and avoid any other imitation.

Ford focus 2012 - 2014 transmission is an electronically controlled manual transmission, no specialty in the transmission fluid rather the lubrication of the gears and synchronizers in the assembly, do not perform a wrong diagnosis.

Please go ahead and buy it, just make sure it's not badly used by Nigerians if you were buying Nigerian used. I can assure that it's a superb SUV, you won't regret it.

You have a point, but from another perspective ,one's daily activities shouldn't often be here especially as Auto repairer except your workshop is a joke and insult to Automobile professionalism. Priority of attention should go on scale as:
1st - - Your workshop customer vehicles.
2nd - - Your Whatsapp customers.
3rd - - Your Whatsapp none customers.
4th - - Your staff (mechanics) working on your
Customer's vehicles.
Lastly - - Here, to attend to enquires.

Various camshaft position diagnostic faults on Ford vehicles don't really mean that you should replace camshaft sensors. Camshaft sensors on Ford have high durability enen till the lifespan or the vehicle. Also by cleaning the sensor wouldn't resolve the problem, the dirt is on the surface of the sensor, but what
functions is the interruption of electromagnetic field developed by the inbuilt coil windings not the surface of the sensor that is being cleaned.
Compel your mechanic to trace any camshaft fault from the based engine to the variable Lags and leads of the rotation.

Explorer is a huge SUV with maximum comfort, you will not spend unreasonable maintenance cost if you keep to manufacturer guide.
Howver, make sure you test drive the car to be sure the gear selection is perfect, check to be sure engine is in good condition without oil spill. Drive and speed up to 120kmh to be sure no vibration or shaking. Test braking system to be sure your ABS is OK.

Finally, ask the seller to tell you car repair history. Don't forget to ask when last he did oil change and transmission fluid change so u can be guided even though your car computer have the oil intelligent warming required change.
