hmmm very powerful points raised
Let me give u an instance, alot of demand for dollars goes for school fees abroad...those funds have a choice to be invested in the Nigeria business ecosystem and see it to blossoming. Do u know the amount of monies Nigerians give to churches and mosques who produce and add nothing to the economic ecosystem? But these same Nigerian will be unwilling to invest resources to realsesech and innovative pursuits. Our thinking as rich Nigerians is all focused on ability to afford and buy things rather than to produce. Nigerians need to change their wicked mindset

90% of those people commenting about Japa can't actually fund it.

British visa and IHS for one year is about 1500 dollars or above. Flight is about 700k above depending on the stop over.

Then the actual means of Japa .. Education or skills? Will determine. If education in the UK then keep 45m. If you are buying sponsorship then keep 15 to 20 upwards.
If you are lucky then you get sponsorship free.

Unless you want to go Togo or African countries or cross's desert. But if UK, Germany, USA Canada it's not for the poor or struggling.

wow. It's a very expensive adventure and it keeps getting more expensive and difficult every passing day. As you have collated the figures above some May need 50 million naira to make this happen. Why not buy a house in naija with the 50 million and rest ? People too like wAhala. Chasing what is not lost.

YOU MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY of the analysis - I am not saying Nigeria shouldnt be better than those countries - I am only SAYING - as desperate as life seems to be in those places - Citizens of those countries ARE NOT doing what NIGERIANS are doing by rubbishing their country online and calling their own people "UGLY" just to enhance the narrative that migrating away or japa is a great thing ----- IT IS BY NO MEANS talking down NIGERIA - but if you cant understand the analysis - I get it, probably - you are too unintelligent to see through it

About 55 years ago here --1968 (and 30 years OF PERSEVERANCE later = black AMERICA got a PRESIDENT OF THE USA, Obama)- dogs were still being unleashed on AFRICAN -AMERICANS who dared to protest against racial inequality in AMERICA. Tens of thousands of black people were lynched to death by the Ku Klux Klan === Hung in the tree and their houses burnt overnight --- in more than a dozen southern states --- from Texas to Louisiana - to Mississippi to Alabama (the epicenter) of the lynching (just like you have FULANI HERDSMEN killing and burning places from Plateau to Benue States to Nassarawa States of Nigeria today) --- Economically - black women were only good for house girl work in white homes - the men cant even look for employment because they are not considered intelligent enough to get employed-- that was racial segregation - (same in Nigeria today, you have to know someone to get a job) BLACK KIDS cant even go to good schools - (same with NIGERIA today, poverty stops kids from going to quality schools) - The government simply did not care about black people in America (same with NIGERIA today, APC and politicians generally do not care about poor Nigerians) and so many many other similarities NIGERIA of Today shares with BLACK AMERICANS of the 1960's

- I DID NOT HEAR FROM MY PARENTS or ELDERS of that era that we had hundreds of thousands of AFRICAN AMERICANS japa-ing to NIGERIA or anywhere in AFRICA to escape these evils in America --- ---- let that sink in......

what did they do? They stayed put in AMERICA and demanded for CIVIL RIGHTS and by GOD, they got it --- and these are AFRICAN AMERICANS that have every reason to give up and say "AFTERALL WE DO NOT EVEN BELONG HERE, LETS GO BACK TO WHERE OUR ANCESTORS CAME FROM AND LEAVE AMERICA WHERE WE ARE TREATED LESS THAN DOGS ----" No way, they stayed back and fought for it- Now they have the freedom they deserve - even IF not 100% but they have at least 85% of what they want

THAT IS THE AMERICA YOU ARE ENCOURAGING NIGERIANS TO FLEE TO TODAY ALL IN THE NAME OF JAPA

TODAY - similar things are happening in Nigeria - our people INSTEAD OF STAYING BACK TO FIX THE MESS since we have the numbers - just like 220 million citizens who forgot that they have the power of numbers to defeat less than 10,000 politicians and criminals destroying the country - they DECIDED Fleeing is the "ONLY" option to solve the problem - is that not madness ? I say so because black Americans were like 6% of the population of AMERICA then ( like in today's numbers ---18 million blacks standing their grounds against 250 million whites) BLACKS were the micro minority - yet they did not run away --- we are the SUPER MAJORITY and YET, we want to run away from NIGERIA --- let that sink in

IF WE ALL RUN AWAY TODAY - Where will the African Americans (WITH NIGERIAN ROOTS) who sincerely love to come home to NIGERIA someday, where will they go to? Since we are busy promoting ONLINE and adopting the cowardice philosophy of JAPA as the only solution ?

AWW I forgot, your likes only want to get "already made" situations - you do not want to work for, bleed for and die for the society you crave to live in, and leave for your future generations, you will rather be a third class citizen in a foreign land where you are TOLERATED and not CELEBRATED, than fight to make the land of your fore fathers a habitable and saner place to live in and prosper - What a SHAME!!!!

MILLIONS of AMERICANS died to end SLAVERY --- that you want to go and enjoy today in the name of JAPA - IF those who died to create the FREE AMERICA of today took the japa route and fled - like you are encouraging others to do now, where will that FREE AMERICA be that you and others want to run to today?

Keep pushing and believing.

First of all, learn and imbibe the culture of gratitude.

Then naturally take on the habit of giving without expecting anything in return and without inconveniencing yourself to do so in case you are also struggling.

Just be grateful to life, nature, and your creator however the circumstances be. Even when things don't go my way, the next word out of my mouth is "I'm Grateful Lord".

I once lived in a house with a mini forest looking over my balcony. The balcony was where I hangout to inhale my Ziggy those days. Being one who loves nature and the greenery, I soon found myself admiring the trees, appreciating nature, and just conversing with and negotiating with the trees to hear and bear me witness.

The rest they say is history. Even me no believe nor understand the catapulting. The only thing I knew was that I had my ways made right with life, nature, humans, and my chi and my heart habored no ills.

Na from there I understand the confidence wey Pators take dey do their business.

These days I take life jeje with the full confidence that I can conjure the positives that I desire and should it go south, I understand it wasn't meant to be or just wasn't ripe, yet.

Love your fellow humans genuinely and purge yourself of every bitterness and hatred. And above all, die every ounce of the spirit of self-doubt, negative thoughts, and utterances within you. Trust and believe in yourself.

Try out these and watch your life...

Tested, proven, and trusted..

Doomsday prophets, come and see a fellow Nigerian as you all.

We keep pushing regardless.

If you have the means to leave, no matter how hard, please do. It will only get worse. The way Nigeria structured, compound wealth doesn't reward, but punish Nigeria/Nigerians.

In the future, Nigeria will be more dangerous, poorer, indebted, saddled with useless leaders, and more crime due to mass deprivation.

Naira depreciation will make all your hardwork useless, and the smartest people you'll likely meet would be online, since their IQ is high and they've escaped the sinking ship earlier.

Don't take my word for it, just go to a random place and try to engage your average country man in anything, even in the so call universities, then ask yourself, are these the folks that will rescue the country?

This sound like a prophesy of doom, but its because I don't deceive myself. So if you don't want time to punish you further, if you have the means, leave

Did you just say Nigeria is a country where drop in government revenue would not be felt by the people? Lol, you really don’t know what you’re saying. What do you think is the cause of the present free fall in Naira? It is because FG revenue has dropped significantly and do not have sufficient dollar to meet demand. The demand for dollar payments (via our huge importation, international payments, loan servicing etc.) has far outgrown Supply (via revenue that comes majorly from crude oil). If the price of crude oil should magically surge to $200 as it used to be, Nigeria’s revenue would triple and govt would have sufficient fund to meet demand, thereby reducing pressure on Naira. You need to read more on how it works, but I understand your annoyance about a government that has no positive impact on the people.

Nigerian government and her citizens are completely disconnected. When oil price dropped to all time low record during covid-19 (like 10 dollars per barrel), Nigerian govt felt it badly but we the citizens didn't feel anything. That's what happens when the Govt is useless to her citizens.

I left Nigeria last year January for my masters. Exhausted all I had, sold my car with all my stuffs and even borrowed extra 2million to add to my school fees. I got here, hustled my way out, finished paying my school fees by December, paid off the 2m last month, now I'm buying my parents a car by end of this month, hopefully. See ehn, if you have little money and also have someone who will borrow you some more for your japa plans, don't even think twice, go for it. Plan your steps well, don't overburden yourself with worries and family problems, be smart, connect well with people wherever you are, trust me, it will definitely pay off.

I could remember sometime last year when I had to stop making video calls with my mum, because she's always sad, seeing how lean I got. But right now, I look so fresh and even added extra 13kg, (maybe because I now workout a lot). It took a lot of sacrifice and discipline, but trust me, as long as you are focused and not lazy to work, the sky is only your starting point.

Nigerian politicians are a reflection of the average Nigerian mind. Only 20% think patriotically or for the common good. Now the fortunate hard working ones are leaving the country leaving the few who are not yet in the middle class or rich to find their way around the Nigerian situation. Every one has right to their decisions but both those who are escaping are part of making this country a failed state. But those still around, will definitely solve these problems especially those born in the 80s.

Some of them campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015. So, why do you think they have the intellect to solve Nigeria's issues?

Like your first line stated, the problem is lack of unity to face issues. The people who make up Nigeria think differently. Someone in Kano thinks differently from myself. He believes his religion is supreme, his elders cannot be criticised and believes violence and wanton carnage is the solution to every disagreement. How can both of us have the same faith in the country?

I know families that are almost parting ways because of this lines.
Please and please Japa comes with its own challenges and it's extremely expensive and one must think very well and be tactful before a step.

You must have funds to keep you a year or 2 ... And this runs into thousands of pounds.

I mean families sold houses, cars, left jobs and they are here fighting.... Na u say make i leave Nigeria. I am not telling u super story this is true life story.

I don't mind sponsoring a research by 2030 - 2035 to know people's stories on the recent japa from 2015 - 2019 and 2019 to 2023. It would make an interesting study. To be honest, it is tough residing abroad as an adult migrant and worse so if married with young children. One is not in its dominant environment and stands out in almost every situation. Migration is mentally tough. It can also be financially draining for many people. Most people who moved out recently will be glad to return if the economy gets to pre-2015 levels and security to 2010s levels. It is one of the reasons my search for relatively safe and seemingly functional black dominated countries has begun. There is a feeling of being amongst people who look like you. But economics trumps psychology.

I think the complaints stem from those who lived relatively comfortable lives in Nigeria and then moved abroad via education rather than a work visa. This is because the previous migration wave in 2010 - 2015, which was just regular folks, did not have the barrage of complaints as today. Why? Most migrated when immigration policies were liberal, the global economy was pretty OK, there wasn't any mass migration from developing countries as it is today, inflation, wars etc. Most importantly, they migrated as single folks rather than married with children.

So, what changed? BUHARI! People who campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015 ruined this country with their decision!

This has been the reality for those who migrated during 2010s till 2015. It is usually toff at the beginning, but it gets easier as time goes on. Today, the situation has worsened due to the tightening of immigration rules, rise in nationalism amongst the usual immigrant-accepting countries, global economic crises, terrible and worsening situation at home in Nigeria. Those who moved in 2010 no get the same complaints as the present set. Nairaland threads dating to that period validate this.

Lastly, it helps if the person is single and does not have a child(ren), regardless of gender.

Lol. You never japa, you dey give motivational speech. Oga, everything you said is dust. The cleaner in my office here travels to severla countries on holiday. Infact, she just came back from Turkey last week, she went to relax with her husband for a week. How many people who have good corporate jobs in Nigeria can afford to travel out for holidays. She even uses an Iphone 15 pro max, which she pays bit by bit every month without any stress. you are here talking about washing toilet.

I can say categorically that it is better to wash toilet in the UK or US than to work with in banks or with Federal Government in Nigeria. Believe it or not

Dobodobo04:

Don’t envy them. Nigeria will be better soon.

We can take advantage of weak naira by starting to export Nigerian products. Government should make airports and seaport export ready!!!

The jobs abroad aren’t as many and even if you get the jobs, there are many deductibles before you enjoy your take home pay.

Also, if you want to Japa and take full benefits of abroad, learn technical skills like welding, plumbing, electrician, nursing, coding, mechanics, machinists, etc.
We look down upon these jobs in Nigeria but they are money making crafts abroad.

If you Japa with just a degree in business admin or any foolish course, you will either wash toilet or look after old people abroad.

.....
You're entitled to your opinion...
I said if you have a good job and you're living well in 9ja.....there's no point relocating abroad....

Because you will provide full security for the person right? Whoever that is doing well can come up with another reason to relocate not specifically because of money as most of you always base everything on money.

You turn a blind eye to the insecurity going on in the country. Have you been sprayed bullets before? Have you been doubled crossed by kidnappers before?

Just last month here, kidnappers double crossed a young guy who is an in-law to one of my brother's friend. He was driving a GLK when they accosted him in front of a popular hotel around 9pm in the evening.

They sprayed him bullets all over his laps and carried him away with injuries. They removed over 18 million from the guy's account and his family still paid an extra 1.5 million before he was released to them almost dead.

I was the one that directed them to a teaching hospital emergency ward as they were referred by another hospital to continue the operation to remove the remaining bullets. Some were very close to the lap bone called femur. So if he is walking, he gets this sharp shock that prevents him not to be able to walk and he will scream due the the pain.

Over 80 bullets were removed and other were still hanging on close to the thigh bone as shown in the scan he did. I saw the many piece of bullets surrounding his thigh bone.

Now, with all these stories and the ones some persons have witnessed one on one, there are still some of you that will always think having money in Nigeria is enough reason never to leave. You people are not even looking at the insecurity aspect of the country.

Every relocation is not about money. People are running for their dear life to saner society where one can move about without fear of being whisked away by kidnappers or being killed by them.

It is high time you guys should desist from encouraging those who have money not to leave the country even if their lives feel threatened by the insecurities ravaging the whole country. If the story of what I just told you above happens to you, and you witness a horrific experience with kidnappers, I believe only then you will have a change of mind about the importance of relocation.
