Hey 🤠

1. @Lawal1555 Do you mean that The husband Form I-20 stipulates or mandated him to bring his wife and kids along for support in the first 2-3 weeks OR That is what you think the husband is going to tell the consular?

2. Okay what about a single PhD applicant that has not married ? Besides all schools are in session right now so the kids re supposed to be in school .

3. Aside that , the consular will calculate the flight ticket for the wife and kids who want to use just 3 weeks as unnecessary spendings for someone going to use US tax payers funds for his study for free .

4. Okay how is he going to proof home ties ? Thank you for your observation. I want to learn from your response . Perhaps , may be a new law states that all phd applicants must travel along with wife and kids ?

Best Wishes 🙏

While the I-20 form doesn't require married applicants to bring their families, if an applicant wishes to bring their family to the US, they can try to convince the visa officer by stating that the spouse will only be traveling for a few weeks.

A single PhD applicant's DS-160 form will naturally indicate their marital status as single, so there will be no questions regarding leaving family behind.

The ability to persuade the visa officer regarding travel finances depends on how applicants present their case, and this applies to single applicants as well.

Marriage shouldn't be the sole method of demonstrating your ties to your home country. Other factors such as relationships with parents, friends, employment, community involvement, and post-study plans can also be considered as evidence of your ties.

There are no state laws requiring single PhD candidates to travel with their families. However, if an applicant is married, whether pursuing a PhD, Master's, or Bachelor's degree, the visa officer may inquire about their spouse and children.

Now, Tunji, this home tie issue seem really dicey. For someone that’s not married yet, and he’s not working before he went for his F-1 visa interview, how will this person show enough home tie? And she has full funding for PhD. Should the person indicate in his DS-160 that he’s married? Because tbh, marriage seem like the only reasonable home tie I won’t lie

Remember that funding does not cover living expenses, books, flight tickets, accommodation as well.

You have to indicate in your DS160 who is footing the deficit.

Thank you

OyoTunjiUSA:

Hey 🤠

1. That form does not have the design to list multiple sources , and it would be best to list the person/entity paying for a majority share of the expenses .

2. I would indicate the Host- University as my sponsor and tell the consular verbally during the interview that the flight expenses and other little little spendings would be borne by me.

3. That takes you back to the section " Have You made Specific Travel Plans ? I would also indicate yes which shows that you have the means to travel .

4. Your Form I-20 has also explained your scholarships / fundings coverage . Either the form is perfectly filled or not. Your communicating rhythm with the consular on that day is what matters the most.

Best Wishes 🙏

Lawal1555:

Your employer/school.

Since your program is fully funded with no deficit, there won't be any inquiries regarding sponsorship. Instead, concentrate on your post study plan, your connections and commitments at home (home ties).

The visa officer may inquire to confirm your responsibility for your application by throwing a jab, "Who is your sponsor/ How do you intend to fund your program?" You can simply respond by stating that your cost of attendance is covered by securing a fully funded program.

Following your response, be prepared for another jab, such as "How did you secure this scholarship?

Program: PhD Chemical Engineering, University of Notre Dame (Fully-funded)

Date: March-20-2024

Venue: US Consulate in Lagos

Outcome: Visa Approved ✅

Dialogue

VO: Window 3, white man with glasses and white earphones

VO: reading my I-20 I see that you're going to The University of Notre Dame du Lac (full name of University of Notre Dame) and you'll be pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering. And you're also fully-funded! Wow! It seems all the big brains came today! Great!

Me: cracks a smile

VO: So tell me about your research.

Me: Alright. For this PhD degree, my research will be focusing on computational catalysis....

VO: cuts in and squints eyes in curiosity Catalysis? What's that?

Me: Alright. So catalysis is the use of special substances called catalysts to expedite the rate of chemical or industrial processes and also a means of reducing their energy expenditure. This research is relevant because as a process manager at The Heineken Company, we have challenges with reducing our energy expenditure and carbon dioxide emissions.

These challenges are largely due to a technical knowledge gap not just in The Heineken Company, but in Nigeria at large. Therefore, this PhD degree will imbue me with the technical expertise I need to take on a senior process management role in energy sustainability at The Heineken Company when I return to Nigeria (return fire).

VO: That's fantastic work! Do you have a bachelor's degree sir? (Sir bawo?)

Me: Yes. I have a first-class in Petroleum and Gas Engineering from The University of Lagos.

VO: Okay. So tell me sir, focuses gaze on me, have you ever applied for a student visa?

Me: Yes, I applied for a student visa in 2020 but I did not attend the interview.

Hey 🤠

1. If you choose a far date yes there is possibility to change it once , and after that once your next option is to use the emergency appointment if you are not satisfy with your final pick.

2. To know when better dates are available , click on 'reschedule appointment " in your cgi portal and it will take you to list of available dates on a different monthly-calendars.

3. If you see any date of your choice just click on the date and proceed to reschedule . But if you are not okay with the available dates on the available calendars just log out . .. The next time you login , you will repeat the same procedure until you find your appropriate date .

Best Wishes 🙏

Hi Guys. So my US Student Visa expired and I’m trying to do a drop shipping, but I want to do it without coming back to Nigeria. I want to ask if this is possible. Am I required to comeback to submit it myself and exit the US and re-enter with my renewed Visa? Or I can send my passport down to Nigeria and have it dropped on my behalf without any consequences?

I mean won’t my I-94 give me away that I didn’t leave the US?

Please I need genuine advice as I’m trying to avoid the cost and logistics of coming down to Nigeria, and also the wait till the visa is issued.

Thank you.

Hey 🤠

*** Send the money for that drop-shipping to me to get a bottle of Champagne because i want to hint you something .

1. You do not need to renew your F1 visa again if you dont have the intention to leave the USA . Stop looking at the expiration date on your visa because Its irrelevant and no sworn officer is gonna arrest you. Your F1-visa has no relevance to your status inside the USA. Its just an authorization to travel to the USA and request to enter the USA at a port of entry. After you have been admitted to the USA as an international student , then your visa serves no purpose.

2. Like all other students in the USA, when admitted in F-1 status, you are granted “Duration of Status. (check it out inside your expired visa D/S) ” This means that your immigration status does not expire, providing you maintain your F-1 status by attending classes and keeping up with your school works.

3. If you have graduated and just seeking this opinion, then that means that you are a playful -student because you must have apply for OPT (if your degree qualify) between 90 days b4 your graduation and 60 days after your graduation (you still have plenty of time). OPT is another work authorization that will keep you going legally in America even with your expired visa.

4. HURRY to your DSO office and table your mind to him or her . Forget about the renewal of your visa and focus in maintaining your student status by extending I 20, transfering , opt , etc.

Best Wishes 🙏

Please I’m in need of guidance. I’ll be going for my third attempt for visa soon, now the issue is.
I have just my dad name written as my sponsors, I don’t know but I feel that’s the ground to the previous visa denials . I reached out to the school to write Family there instead of having just one name , but they said they only write names of sponsors statement of account I send and if I want I can send another person’s own to add. They were also like my I-20 is solid enough to have my visa granted.
My question is should I look for another sponsor to add, or I should just go with my previous I-20 like that

Hello my people, I have a cousin in Holland without any residence permit. He is still waiting for his Permit to be released but he is Afraid this might come out too late for his Canada and US runs.

My question is that, does he stand any chance of getting either US or Canadian Visa with his status in Holland? Does he have to come back to Nigeria if he doesn't have valid residence permit?
thank you guys.

I feel you didn't give the VO enough reasons you will return back after your studies.

Like leveraging on your dad or moms business as a hometie, making the VO sees you as an important tool to them when you're done with your bachelor's degree abroad.

Like how you will improve your moms or dads business with what you know and how you will use technology to help them grow their business.

Just try a different approach and make sure you are relating it with you coming back after studying............

Just my suggestions tho

Because your cousin's country of citizenship is different from his country of permanent residence, the U.S. embassy/consulate will consider him a third country national (TCN). Depending on the country, TCNs can routinely apply for visas in the country of permanent residence. However, they will usually be asked about their status in their country of residence at the embassy or their passports will be reviewed for a visa that allows them to be in that country. Obviously, if the applicant does not have a residence permit or any type of document that allows him to remain in that country legally, his application may not be favorably reviewed.
