Marjoribanks:on point I always tell my people how Nigeria has helped so many of us from poor home. If not for subsidized education, I'm pretty sure i wouldn't be able to afford education. Be that as it may, please sir can you help your fellow Yoruba man relocate to US? I love Nigeria as a country but i need to survive and help my family. I graduated 2021 with almost first-class and I'm yet to secure any reasonable Job. I cannot even afford to feed myself nor support my family. I'm considering going through study. I'd have Kickstart my application for spring but i do not have a passport yet. You know i can't continue to love my country when my life is gradually wasting away. I need to look for legal means to better my life and that of my family. I'd be 28 this year with nothing to show for it. Please can you support me in any way you can? |

I honestly do not understand the point of this thread Nor be by force to travel out. You can stay and enjoy Nigeria if you want. Other Africans with better country still travel. Europeans migrate and the last time I checked, no country is begging Nigerians to Immigrate. What works for me may not work for you and I do not see the need to justify myself to anyone. If I tire abroad, I travel back to Naija. No big deal. Shikenna. 1 Like |

I think rather than leaving a lucrative job in Nigeria to do menial jobs abroad is not wise. Rather, there are so many ways of earning in dollars in Nigeria without travelling abroad. That should be the goal right now - earn in dollars and spend in naira. 1 Like |

Most people remain in these 'so called sane' countries cos they have hold the world economy hostage by giving superficial value to their currencies. You see them as gods just like your fore fathers and they are using you as an advance slaves. Giving you jobs they can't do and then place you in a supposedly high position. Then you think you have arrived and start condemning your culture and value. They gave you scrums for you to deny your culture which you are happily doing. lol! When will you people stop being foolish by celebrating those that put your country in that bondage in the first place? Tuehh! standfit007: |

folake4u: To be fair, the thread is appropriate as we don't know how many Nigerians who emigrated via standard 9-5 work visas compared to those who resorted to menial jobs after emigrating. This thread reminds me of the Nairalander who emigrated to Australia to join his wife. Before emigrating, he was a senior accountant earning 1.1 million per month from his audit business. Today, he is a certified forklift driver. It is people like him we need their experiences. https://www.nairaland.com/7825207/japa-confused-please-advise/11 In this japa movement, all sides should be analysed so that future players know their left from their right. |

FinidiGeorge: Yes, it is a good place to reside if one has a good job and speaks German. France and Belgium aren't that good, ditto Austria. In all, living abroad is sweet when one has a good job and knows the local language. So, if you are a tech bro in Germany, you would enjoy it, just like anywhere else. 2 Likes |

Panda7: Don't say what you don't know bro... I work in a bank and my branch Manager earns a little above 1.5m monthly and there are people above his level , so imagine how much they'll be earning. Money dey this Country abeg, the problem is that it's not circulating the way it should. |
Re: Do You Regret Leaving Your Lucrative Nigerian Job For Abroad Menial Job by folake4u(f): 7:20am On Mar 26 |
Gerrard59: The people who emigrate via standard work visas and PR route would not do menial jobs for long. Last last, it might be 2-4 months when they first arrive, and then they move to better paying jobs. The Nairalander who you're talking about who's a certified forklift driver can't tell me there aren't audit jobs available for him in Australia. It is his personal choice that he chose to tow that pathway. There are also people who choose to stay in care jobs for 5-10 years. I agree that all sides should be analysed but with the way all these care jobs are springing up, one would think that there aren't other jobs available for immigrants. 2 Likes 1 Share |

folake4u: Nigerian degrees are not respected/accepted in most of the abroad. So you have to get a masters degree or in the case of medicine, pass the board exams. I am not sure if accountants need degrees or just need to pass licensing exams. Going abroad usually means starting again from 0,wiping the slate clean. What usually works is if you come in through a multinational - one which has the same culture nationwide. But if you are exited from the multinational before you have perfected your resume... There is also another issue, a lot of so called accomplished Nigerians are actually very lazy in the workplace and with competence gaps. Things you can get away with in Nigerian as a Nigerian in American as Ana American, but not in America as a japa Nigerian There is a lady engineer I remeber who could not understand the most basic things as a trainee. She got a good job and we were all trying to train her at the time. She literally resorted to paying people to do her work for her. She also understood how to play dirty politics very well. Today she is a big person where she works. What do you think will happen if she japas as an engineer? Will she be able to cope without a foundation? If you are attached |
