Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 5:14pm On Apr 12 |
Roland17: The offer is at about 2 weeks old and she hasnt spoken on it, so I doubt she will take it. But it has raised questions for black women. A fair question to ask is where was this effort for black women like Angela Reese? I think black women are frustrated with the type of answers black men in power often give to these valid questions. Its like black men try to play pretend when it suits their pockets. Kinda like what Emmanuel Acho did some days ago. Acho is my guy, but he is very tone deaf on these matters. Forgive me yall if I m starting a fire in a dry forest |
Re: The NBA Begins by Roland17(m): 5:40pm On Apr 12 |
birdman: Fair question for black women to ask, however, an offer like this is primarily about driving sales, rating and revenue for Ice Cube. While Reese is a dominant player, she did not drive the attendance or rating like Caitlin did. The NCAA Womens tournament had its highest watch rating ever this year. The rating bettered the mens by a long mile and improved from last year’s and these metrics were primarily influenced by one person.. Caitlin Clark. So no, Reese isn’t getting that type of offer because it is not charity. S. Ionescu is a player with similar playing style when she was in college but she never came close to what Caitlin is doing neither did she get any invite from any other league. Caitlin isn’t your regular type of player and we have to accept that. Once everyone is on the same page about that, we shouldn’t have some of these issues/ debates. 1 Like 2 Shares |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 5:53pm On Apr 12 |
birdman:Ice Cube is a capitalist trying to make money. Nothing consign am with all this una socialist talking points There's no real bankable black female basketballer out there. Don't mention Angel Reese pls we are not talking about twerking here. Caitlin can do TV numbers alone Reese can't. You think he won't offer a black woman money if she's box office? These guys only see green mayne Besides how is it that the same Black women that say they're doing better than black men still turn around asking to be saved by black men when it hits the fan. You can't have it both ways. A Black man do not owe you anything just cos you're a black woman btw Speaking about Acho I hate that he didn't stand on what he said and allowed himself get sonned and lil bro'd by these pandering charlatans like Ryan Clark and Matt Barnes of all people. Why didn't they tackle Shady McCoy and the other guy James Jones who said the same thing or even worse. Still this their useless African immigrant hate that 'FBA' (goofies that are still in denial that their ancestors were all shipped from Africa) and excuse making black Americans cling on everytime |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 5:57pm On Apr 12 |
Roland17:Laughable that people try to compare putback merchant Angel Reese to Caitlin. Fairplay to Angel for leveraging her physicality both on and off the court, it's at least refreshing to not see wannabe men like Griner, Taurasi and co but comparing her to Caitlin as a star would be like comparing Steph to a Rudy Gobert |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 6:03pm On Apr 12 |
Roland17:Hmmm there are pros and cons to it. If she looks bad competing among men it would badly hurt the WNBA. I'm sure the WNBA begged her feverishly not to accept the offer Remember when Clay Travis said he would give the WNBA champions $2m if they beat a Male high school basketball team of his choosing and they never responded |
Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 6:04pm On Apr 12 |
A40: Roland17: Interesting response from both of you, and I think this is what black women are driving at. You are trying to have the conversation based solely on performance, implying that there are no other underlying issues. But lets take that apart: If driving sales is all its about according to you Roland17, shouldnt Reese's notoriety also have been an asset last year? Because it looks like Ice Cube is only welcoming popularity accepted by mainstream americans as opposed to more black american. A40 you say Ice Cube is just a capitalist and he looks at it from just money angle. OK, lets accept that. Why didnt he capitalize last year or other years? Granted Caitlin is more skilled, but if its just about making money why was that not offered last year to drive sales as well? Unless Cube is not as politics agnostic as he would like to think |
Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 6:17pm On Apr 12 |
Everybody wants to play against the Lakers. Like guys literally tick that day on the calendar as games they must not miss. They could be on any kind of injury, the Lakers game would serve as a timetable for their return. See Ingram is set to play against the Lakers in the final game of the season after missing 12 games in a row. What about Kuzma? No other team gets this kind of top priority in the league. I mean, when you combine LeBron, the city of LA and the historic franchise that the Lakers are, guys wouldn't even mind playing on crutches when it comes to the Lakers.

Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 9:17pm On Apr 12 |
birdman:Lol. What yeye underlying issues. What have black women done for Ice Cube's Big 3 league? Why should he pander and bend over backwards to a demographic that has not supported his brand for the most part? Maybe it's their culture but I've never seen any other group of men who are groomed as indentured servants to their women. The level of entitlement and ownership I've never seen elsewhere. The women demand it the men enforce and police it. Pure insanity I've always told Black women it's either you need Black men or you don't. You don't get to pick and choose when it's convenient birdman:Duhh. Black people are less than 13% of American population. Only a silly businessman will not tailor his products to the mainstream. When you factor that said black women don't even support their own WNBA which is predominantly black women and wannabe men why should Cube be arsed? I've told you before Angel Reese is a putback/rebound merchant. Her game is not what puts butts in seats. She's been fortunate to leverage her sexuality and rivalry with Caitlin. Talent wise she's not in the same zip code. There's no aspect of her game that will hold up in a contest with men birdman:Maybe cos there was need to be sure that the Caitlin Clark phenomenon was not a fluke. Whatever you want to call it. No businessman with any sense God gave geese won't try to capitalize on someone that can get 15million people watching a basketball game. If you like make it about race or politics na you sabi 1 Like 1 Share |

A40: Well, when cube was a nobody, they were the ones watching his movies and listening to his music until he became big enough to do his own thing. It would be like Davido or Wizkid getting this big and thinking they can stop catering to the nigerian base. Las las it wont end well. I think guys like Cube should learn lessons from dem Denzel, etc the older generation. Everything is not simply about the dollars |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 4:38am On Apr 13 |
birdman:Lmao. You will make a fine comedian. So BW are Ice Cube's biggest demographic or what are you claiming This man no take laugh kill me abeg. Basketball is not a race based product. Besides you're suggesting Cube pay BW that can't draw money just because You will make a sensational businessman. Oprah is a literal billionaire I don't see you asking her to start a league for BW Cube is pushing his late 50s. He is the older generation, He doesn't need to learn nothing from nobody. Are you kidding? We're talking about someone in his 4th decade of relevancy Everything is absolutely about the Almighty dollar. Are you serious? You want the league to pack up? Leagues are not run by sentiment and vibes, they're run by cold hard greenbacks, revenue. There's a reason so many WNBA teams have packed up in the past, they're being subsidized by the NBA now, Cube's league doesn't have such luxuries 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: The NBA Begins by Roland17(m): 5:01am On Apr 13 |
birdman: Have you watched the BIG 3? Cube is already paying his dues to the AA community with the BIG 3. Man is fending for grown men (mostly African American I should add) who retired decades ago or play overseas and don’t necessarily have the financial wealth. He is well within his right to pursue something that would repay his investment in Caitlin. Sorry A. Reese doesn’t have the following that Caitlin commands, no female WNBA does and they all know that. For all the noise about “women supporting women”, I thought I would see more acceptance and support from the female gender but it has been the opposite from numerous angles. There are generational talents that are the exception and Caitlin is one of them. Even if she goes to the WNBA and fails, her cult following in college will remain historic and unprecedented. At this rate, I won’t be shocked if they play her dirty and try to get her injured after she gets drafted into the league. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Warriors lose. The Suns could lose too. Looks like this thing is going down to the wire |
Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 5:59am On Apr 13 |
steady986: Ah, apparently the Suns winning the Kings was the best result for the Lakers. We're now up to 8th position. We win the Pels in the final game and we remain 8th and play the Suns in the Play-in if they also win their final game. They lose against Minnesota and we play the Pels. Oluwa, do am for us o. |

Re: The NBA Begins by greypencils: 6:10pm On Apr 13 |
birdman:Angel Reese is not spectacular. What she does layups, rebounds and blocks is the same any forward would do. There are forwards who would eat her up in the NBA. Clark on the other end, if her teammates are game with her and they set perfect screens, she would keep on throwing those flames. The babe threw 9 3-point shots against LSU in the elite eight, which woman ever did that? BBall doesn't know color, BBall knows talent. Leave your talent on the floor and you'll draw eyes. More viewers means more funds in the Aza. Don't blame Ice Cube. He is a business man after all. 1 Like |

Roland17: Im not claiming that he isnt. Me personally, I dont have any issues with him. But all decisions are not purely financial. There is always history and recency bias in these things. Any good businessman knows this. Forbes 500 companies spend billions on goodwill all the time, even accountants recognize it can have cash value on a balance sheet. For Cube to jump into the fray this way was not smart imo. Just because it makes you money doesnt mean its good business. He should have stayed faaaar away from this |
Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 7:09pm On Apr 13 |
greypencils: Sorry boss, but this is not really true in any business. Some people get hired for talent, others get hired to keep things smooth. You think Giannis brother was hired by Bucks based on his skills? Even where you work, Im sure you know folks like this lol. This is the nature of things, and good businessmen know to stay out of these type of controversies. Notice how no other black mogul touched this matter with care, focusing on S Carolina coach instead. |
Re: The NBA Begins by greypencils: 7:37pm On Apr 13 |
birdman:We are talking about money here. Thanasis's salary is just a couple bucks taken from Giannis's bulk. Giannis is the cash cow that draws the viewership so you do anything keep the star player happy so that you retain viewership and grow your money. CClark = Viewership/Followership = Sponsorship = Cash money. Reese no get that kind skill to pull crowd. What will Reese do that Liz Cambage and Aja Wilson hasn't done already? CC is the money because people go tune in to watch 3point shot. People want to see the female version of Steph Curry. Her 'good' looks is a plus too. Cube is a businessman looking for dough who doesn't care about corporate America. NWA - No Vaseline - Boyz in d hood - Friday Series - Cube Vision, that is his career path. Which one of his hustles has he ever been required to wear a suit? Neither does he care about race. He is an entertainer with both black and white following. Cube dey find money as a hustler, no time to send anybody. 2 Likes |
Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 12:13am On Apr 14 |
greypencils: Thank you for this example. He is taking a roster spot that could have helped the bench come playoffs. But he is more useful in a way that is not monetary. Shey you get now. Business at the end is about money, but the road to the money requires wisdom, including doing giveaways. Cube should have mechonu. Take example from other sports moguls, no be everything you go chook mouth inside |

steady986: You are feeling very confident o. Normally I should feel confident with Lebron playing very good basketball right now and healthy. But as you know, this thing comes down to AD. And you know how your boy be Another part of me feels like the old school teams should just be cut off, let the youngns ball. This could be the coming out party for some young talent |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 1:03am On Apr 14 |
birdman:Lmao is the Big 3 a Forbes 500 company? Wtf are you waffling about blud There's nothing profitable or sustainable about picking up a non draw BW to a Big 3 league. The WNBA is a 70% BW league and black women are not supporting it so why in the blue hell should Cube be arsed about signing a BW player who cannot bring him any business or ratings Comparing a small company to institutions that have ran for 50 plus years is absurd. Cube is not at a financial level where he can afford to carry and pay non contributors that will not bring back money's worth in ads and revenue. It's a business not a socialist brunch 3 Likes 1 Share |
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 1:12am On Apr 14 |
birdman:Giannis is the goose that lays the golden egg and puts butts in the seats. Hiring his brother is not a charity move. With the value Giannis provides to the Bucks having his brother tag along is one of the perks of the office. Completely different scenarios You keep infusing race into this matter and that is always the problem. Putting color before greenery. If the Big 3 is going to grow and be more than just a circus show and niche league then this your Black vs White agenda must be discarded. Anything you tie or restrict to race in a multicultural society you're setting a ceiling for it. Even the NBA had to expand and embrace international products for it to reach where it is now. The onus is not on Cube but on BW to push and present marketable and undeniable stars with crossover appeal. 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 2:01am On Apr 14 |
A40: Exactly! Now you get it! By himself giannis brother is not a smart financial move. But as tag along to his brother, it is. You have to think through your move, not just on immediate dollars and cents. So now, back to ice cube. Follow me now. Caitlin likely will not play for Cube anyhow. So net net, do you think this whole episode is a positive for cube or a negative? Ahan, now you gerrit. |
Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 2:02am On Apr 14 |
A40: Lol, actually I need to stop explaining money to you guys. Lezz move on, ice cube is a business genius! this move has cemented his business good vibes for another year! yaaaaay! |
Re: The NBA Begins by greypencils: 2:25am On Apr 14 |
birdman:If Dr Dre had followed your logic, he wasn't supposed to sign Eminem or even given him a chance. Appealing to the black horde would have overridden Eminem's artistry. One thing about business, heck! Life, you don't always stay in your comfort zone and play safe. You take risks. Before Cube threw it out there, he had reasoned the whole thing and was half-expecting a negative response from her and negative press. He is not courting her. If he was, he would have had a sit down with her IN PRIVATE. But throwing it out there made him trend. Cube is first an entertainer before being a businessman. As an entertainer, him throwing it out there was good business. As a businessman, him throwing it out there was also good business. What is the worst that can happen? You think he would be cancelled? His movies or production company would be blacklisted? Blacks won't watch his movies? Trust me, cube has reasoned out every scenario and he is fine with it. What is the worst that can happen? CC takes the bait, more money. She doesn't, More publicity to his Big 3. There are people that didn't know about Big 3 until this CC saga. It's win win Bro. 3 Likes |

birdman:You sound goofy. Now I get it? Pass that Igbeaux to the left hand side man Giannis has made a small market Bucks team relevant, they can increase prices on season tickets, merchandise, concession stands. You're comparing what Giannis a franchise player means to the ecosystem of pretty much the state of Wisconsin to WNBA players? Apply some critical thinking nauu It's a 100% positive for Ice Cube. That's more free publicity for his league. Look at this thread for example. Who has mentioned Big 3 before the offer The demographic outraged at Cube do not matter in the grand scheme of things. This is not politics Let them use that outrage to make the WNBA profitable so they're not NBA tax write off for another 30 years |
