There’s nothing wrong with teaching diction, but these children aren’t speaking with any recognisable accent. They’re just using their tongue to mash it.

Some decades ago we used to have professional broadcasters who spoke good Nigerian English without pretence. Don’t know what is happening now o
Not just decades ago.

The worst among is Yoruba, several children can't speak Yoruba language again, let alone inculcate Yoruba culture into the blood of their kids.

We always do our thing beyond normal in this country.
Worst part, parent will even caution you against speaking it to their wards. Telling you they don't understand Yoruba, like WTF.

I absolutely support your response.

What's the big deal in having so many accent? Been versatile in spoken languages is a gift and not all those students will easily blend in that foreign accent in that class. It's a gift and good if discovered here in school locally before you eventually travel....

Rexymania:
It's beautiful and they can go far with it

Speak English like an English man
Speak Yoruba like a Yoruba man
Speak Igbo like an Igbo man

I don't see anything wrong with it.

I commend it a lot

"If we decide to teach English the way it should be taught, people we say we are lunatics"

That one na Nigerian private school mediocrity o.

What matters now is how our subsidy removed will begin to speak in our standard of living after almost two years of this pain. Many have died in this untold hardship brought in in the last 10 years.

Nigerian private schools are full of deceit. Claiming to be what they are not.

How many of the Nigerian private schools are taught to write external exams independent of malpractices?

Use your brain, why would they have need to speak with a British accent for heavens sake?🙄🙄🙄
Okay you use your anus why should these young ones here speak with British accent?
Re: Nigerian School Goes Viral For Teaching Students A Foreign Accent (photos/video) by illicit(m): 6:06pm On Feb 19, 2025
Kobojunkie:
No dey lie!🙄🙄🙄

They are teaching the kids to speak with a foreign accent, a skill which will come in useful since as things remain in Nigeria a vast majority of them will eventually have to JAPA to find a good life for themselves. And before you claim that having a thick Nigerian accent abroad is OK, I advise to you realize that the vast majority of misunderstandings that people experience abroad have to do with the difficulty in communicating clearly to those around them. undecided
What are you saying....

I said it's not unusual

Are you suffering from a lack of comprehension skills or something? undecided
It is by English since many of them will need to later JAPA to other countries to find themselves a decent life.
Please, engage that noggin! It is not meant for decoration. undecided

The only celebrity I have seen with a bona fide British accent is Burna boy. He can on it and off it on demand, as rough as he looks 😂 the rest of them are just pretending.
Hmmm...did he spend his youthful years in the UK? Many accents in Britain ....which bona fine one he speaks? ....as in when he speaks people can say where he's from in the UK. An American speaks ...one who knows accents can say he's from Texas ...or he's from New York... and even to say from where in NY ....the Bronx... Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Nonsense!

I once got a contract job in an Indian company and I noticed most of their staff switch to this funny Indian accent when they wanna communicate with the Indians. They believe that's the only way communication can take place and it's a big lie because I communicated normally with them and they understood me.

Your accent makes you unique, I can't fake accent to please any foreigner.

Rebuker:
You have a point, bro👍 but when you, as an Igbo man, speak Yoruba, your intention, aim, or joy is to be able to speak exactly like a Yoruba man. You wish to speak Yoruba in such a way that anyone who hears you will praise you for speaking it so well or even for trying to sound like a Yoruba person. No one will mock you; instead, they will be happy to see you speaking it. And since we adopt the language in the first place, trying to sound like the people we learn it from shouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Or should we just stick to speaking our local dialects and forget English? What do you think? 😁😁😁😁
They sound nothing like the people they learnt it from. It obvious to tell, they are trying too hard.

Lol, waste of time, even the country that owned that language are facing economic crisis tackless of third world trying to force their selves in speaking such language. Technology is now the key, nobody want to know how bad your English is, beside, I know many that can speak good English yet can't feed themselves properly
