An event that impacted my life as a child. Unedited grin

At the age of 11,I went off to boarding school at FGGC GBoko. Before this time I had never been to the northern part of Nigeria. All my childhood was in Eastern Nigeria so going to GBoko was met with some apprehension on my part and strangely the feeling wasn't just mine.My mother was excited her little girl was going off to a federal school which was a very prestigious institution then and at the same time worried about having her very far away from home.
My older brother had gone to Holy Ghost College Owerri,a few miles from home and this was quite new to the family.

I arrived Gboko dressed in my sparkling daywear and socks and sandals.A few families we knew in Owerri already had their girls in GBoko including my elementary school mate Chika so I was excited I would know someone there.
Chika was from anambra state and her father worked in one of the federal establishments in Owerri.
We weren't particularly close friends at aladinma but being from the same estate and finding ourselves in faraway GBoko,we became inseparable. Our parents would ride together to visit on visiting days and when mine couldn't make it,they sent messages through hers and vice versa. We had the same skinny build and dark skin tone and many actually mistook us for sisters,so when Chika would come down with sickle cell crisis,I was always the one by her bedside in the sickbay,to hold her hands and comfort her, help copy her notes and bring back the assignments. She could always count on me,I loved her like a sister and she knew it.
Nothing prepared me that faithful Tuesday when Chika fell sick like in times past that she wouldn't be returning to FGGC ever again
Chika passed away.I had never lost any friends till this time and I had a hard time handling it.
I would dream of her and wake up with my heart beating.i would sometimes pray that she returned and some nights I thought about her and cried.
Sometimes I would sit up and expect her to come running to my corner as in times past.I never knew children also died.It was a hard thing to bear.
many years and decades after I still think of her sometimes
What could she have become?
Would she have been also married and a mother of children just like myself
Well I'll never know.
But hers was my introduction to the bitter pain of death.
may her soul continue to RIP
very touching story! embarassed

Lol. The Naira devaluation will ultimately lead to an increase in the price of imported goods.

I think the prize money could be split into 2, for both the winner and runner-up.
Not quite. Unless you've forgotten the cbn also increased the reserve ratio of commercial, who in turn will increase their interest rate.

How many business men use their money to import stuff anyway? These people are major borrowers. So at least there's less to borrow and more to be paid back.

And I know it won't completely eliminate looming inflation rates, but at least we'll be spared from hyper inflation.

Now how much could an unemployed graduate possibly need to buy, aside the basics?
Unless he/she chooses to be frugal, I think this should make them reasonably comfortable (even with chopping mummy's rice and a roof over their head).
If it's Christmas shopping, well most stores sell at a discounted rate anyway to get rid of old stock.

Aunty I supposed to apply but my Oga's messages left for me to accomplish is too much for me to meet all your criteria

Now I ask you : Did you meet all these conditions?

I believe this thread should have been opened in the job/vacancy section. There we know we 'truly' have the following: the unemployed, the employed and the employed seeking be employed.

Did I mention this set of people are very serious minded, unlike the ones you find in romance and politics section.

One thing my sisters have failed to realise despite being on Nairaland for years is Mufus feed fat on the attention you guys give them with back and forth with mentions. I never acknowledge them even if they call me begging desperately for attention a million times. Ignore them, thats all the attention they get, they probably get none in their real lives hence resort to tantrum throwing here desperately begging " notice me notice me, start a back and forth pointless argument with me, come down to my gutter level lets get dirty together, thats the highlight of my day" learn to ignore them, don't give them the attention high they desperately look for. Even Cococandy seems to be learning these days if na before she for don write plenty essay for them lol

If it's Christmas shopping, well most stores sell at a discounted rate anyway to get rid of old stock.
The increased interest rates will also discourage SMEs from expanding their businesses, which in turn, will prevent them from hiring people.

Ebi like say others dey add to the money.

Gbam that is why you go to buy items and they tell you " no change " with a straight face expecting you to leave that " small money" and attempt to " shame" you by getting angry and complaining of you demand for your change." sister wetin you want make we do now, all this suffer over how much self, you pass this small change na madam you be ' big gal'"
Its only when you don't work hard and right for your money that anyone can shame you on top your own money
All those complaining should go and open their own thread and dash their money for free. Babyosisi has given her own criteria if you like sleep here it wont change. Mufus
Its quite hilarious how some of the people are imposing conditions on money thats not coming out of their wallet. If $100 is "chicken change" why dont they offer more money?

You will even find someone who lives on $30 a month screaming $100 for 250words is an insult. Too many people forming shakara for no reason.

Beautiful. Can we please kick off the real competition? People who want to apply may be distracted from all the market noise down here and lost in the sea of back and forth.

Open the new thread so it can formally kick off. Seek the cooperation of the moderator(s) in that section to hide any comment that is not a story or an application.
Enough talk lets get started

in addition, a generic name can be suggested for it rather than a personal one

if the pledges are redeemed it is a good one however the modality was not ideal initially

First love blues...

I was 15, I had never experienced the sensation of “love” before, although one could argue this was more infatuation than love really. But I knew that each time I saw this particular girl, my heart would beat faster, I was often tongue-tied, unusually shy around her. She was in boarding school while I was a day student so I had to steal as much time after school to be with her. Oddly enough, we spent most of those precious 2 hours just sitting and staring at each other, exchanging a few words here and there but you could literally cut the tension with a knife. I would spend hours at night just thinking about her, her slim figure, soft hair, large brown eyes and that laugh…

She was the gentlest girl I’d ever met. Cute, neat, tall, humble to a fault and beautiful. I hated taking direct dictation in class, preferring instead to doodle or scribble my own thoughts of the subject. She would faithfully pick up my notes after class and spend hours copying every single note I had missed (which was usually most). No one told me about love anyway… but I knew deep down that I felt something for this girl that I had never experienced before and could not articulate. Feb 14, 1998 was the first time I had ever bought a valentines card… I gave it to her, well no I sent her brother to give it to her. That day was a Saturday so I spent the rest of the weekend wondering if she was busy laughing at my naivety. On Monday, her brother walked over to my class and dumped a large white envelope on my desk… it was a valentines card! Tucked between the card was a 2 page letter covered with her distinct small but neat handwriting…

I kept that letter for 6 years, making sure to take it with me when we moved houses twice. I left high school 6 months later, I was excited to start college but also sad to leave my tall babygirl behind. She cried a lot in the last few weeks we were together. I guess she knew it was likely going to be the end of what turned out to be our first mutual experience at the game of hearts. We wrote each other for about a year after that (my dad got used to picking out the letters in his mail box)… almost every 2 weeks. Her letters coming in the same famous brown parchment with her tiny notes and heart doodles… never less than 4-6 pages in length. I told her about life outside high school, my computer lessons, she told me about school and the boys now trying to chase her because I was gone. We spoke on phone too… often at first then in fits and starts. We lost contact by my second year in college and I was not to see or speak with her again for the next 5 years.

Today we’re very good friends again… she’s happily married now with 2 boys… and I could not be happier for her. Although we were never ultimately meant to be together, but she taught me two things I have never forgotten… it is possible to truly love a woman and when a woman truly loves you, she will do absolutely anything, and I mean move-the-world kind of anything to be with you.
