CFCfan:
The increased interest rates will also discourage SMEs from expanding their businesses, which in turn, will prevent them from hiring people.
I don't think the same rates are applied to microfinance institutions, and even those are tailor made to suit the needs of their target public.

In the long run though shouldn't the aim of the government be to improve local manufacturing, and reduce dependence on importation? I'd say our SMEs are in a better position to increase sales and expand currently.

Some will open their legs for N5000 recharge card but revealing your certificate and writing 250words for N18,000 is a taboo grin see priorities grin

I do agree with those suggesting for the certificate to be emailed instead. That way you can send the money to the name given on the certificate

Yes, the govt (via the CBN) has a role to play in promoting an export economy. It's the fastest route to a reduction in the unemployment rate.

Yes after last night's Telemundo episode, I am back, fully refreshed and ready for today's offerings. cheesy

I really do believe this is a great idea, and seeing MissMeiya backing it gives me hope that the competition may eventually be steered towards a more intellectual conclusion.

First things first, I've noticed a lot of follow-follow to 'pledge' because big mama babyosisi is donating. You guys should better know your pocket size before you donate o.

Now that the proposed prize money is over 100k, the donators might find themselves resenting thier contributions to a fund that is more than thier monthly income, as a prize for a story that can't even be verified...

Next thing, when it's time for pledge to redeemed, they go AWOL

We've seen this in real life so many times

Please only give out of the freeness of your mind!!!! If you know that capa no reach, gently bow out. This is Christmas period and conditions are tight, so no shame in backing out now.

Don't do follow-follow and end up cooking Ice Kote for Christmas dinner. grin

Now Berem and Tomakint, where did we end matter last night?

mutter:

Sorry Bigbumper, I now work only in the Lords vineyard and focus more on voluntary work. Not because I can afford it but because it gives life more meaning- for me at least. It might change again someday but that is the status quo now.
I shall not be donating to this project because this group has failed to AIDA the message across to me and maybe some other people that might have been keen to donate. AIDA- attention, interest, desire and action.
Sadly I was only drawn to the negative aspects of this tread and that is the insults with wich everyone who dared to criticise was confronted with. When raising money for a charitable venture it is important to convince prospective donors- that is if you are keen on donors.
Cococandy has adequately covered all the grounds already, Babyosisi was/is very flexible and kept modifying the initial post to reflect contributions from others until she started getting insulted unjustifiably...

This wasn't set out to be a group thing...twas just a lil gesture thought out by her which had a mushroom effect on others with a giving heart too. So this is not a group thing, neither is their any political or insidious undertone to it.

Many congrats Ma for the good news you are doing for the glory of God. May you be richly rewarded duly. I recall you used to be in the other camp...oh well i guess that's a story for another day. Thanks for the audience ma'am. Have a nice day.

No Ma, I won't tag anybody. I don't want anybody's wahala.
Secondly, if I were unemployed and wanted to get into this, I would be so reluctant to upload my certificate online and on nairaland. I would personally not do it. This is Nigeria.

If someone is unemployed and visits nairaland in the last one year and has a minimum of 200posts, anybody should be able to figure out if he's a graduate or not.

Just giving my opinion
Nobi small tin ooo! Imagine the CONDITIONS for ordinary 100 dollars!

Op,(Babyosisi) nice effort, but these your conditions NAWAOO! You will definitely ask them to write to the entire 36 states in Nigeria, snap carrying their school bag for head, wearing their nysc uniform, with a recommendation letter from their VC etc, assuming you want to offer them steady jobs then! Seriously SMH

I weep for my country and what unemployment can reduce some people into sha!

And find the choicest words to please rub it in wella that these essays were done in 5 minutes flat cheesy

@ babyosisi, nice initiative. Could I just make a few suggestions, as there are more pledges/ donors, what about having 2nd, 3rd positions gifts too. So that way the initial scope of making someone's Christmas is met, but yet spreading the love to more.

U can consider this sharing ratio, 1st position $100, the naira donations, call card etc, 2nd maybe just $100, 3rd $75 or $50. Or u cld even v categories beat write up, most motivational story etc. Or even for those with qualification and those without say just GCSE.

I know a young man I introduced to nairaland, very brilliant with good results both GCSEs n initial jamb, but no means to further his education. He's driven and hustling to survive, I feel people like him would benefits and should qualify for this.

U guys can extend d date and create more awareness abi?
Folks will donate more. D criteria may change and some guys will be called on to do investigative work for confirmation of authenticity of papers cos nigerians rnt smiling,u know.
Its good and motivational.
Some peeps will certainly use their alternate monikers to spread their chances of winning grin
There should be a strict way in verifying contestants.
Imagine 1 person with 4 monikers posting different stories lipsrsealed

Babyosisi, this is a good thing and to the others who have donated too. May your pockets be enriched.

Now, I do not get some styles of corrections or 'criticisms'. I am of the opinion, that if your criticism cannot be stated respectfully with solutions or a better modification proffered, then you should say nothing.

Will N18,000 not help any serious minded graduate even if nothing it can get you basic foodstuffs so you have something for christmas? And even if you have food, that's an awoof amount to subscribe or get something you've always wanted or even giving part of the money to someone who didn't expect it. That is what an act of little kindness started by someone can snowball into.
That you are unemployed gives you the time to dream, so that when you are given an opportunity, you run with it. Let's drop our sense of entitlement, it hasn't improved Nigeria one bit. There is the business section, so many threads there. Use part of the money for that but stop belittling the act, it is someone's hard earned money.

I would have suggested this goes to the job/vacancy section. It might be a 250 word of an idea on how the economy can be improved or something like that. I wish I could participate...but I think there are people who would need it more than someone that just needs extra free cash.
