Literacy doesn't necessarily equate to language spoken. It has more to do with awareness, enlightenment, attitude, self worth.U would agree with me that 90% of Formal education illiterates feel initimidated around literates and it affects their reasoning not neccesarily the language.

I don't quite agree with you on this . I would rather say it is " inferiority complex " that do make informal educated people to feel intimidated by their formally educated counterparts . Knowledge-wise , in a particular area of study , I will take a thoroughly informally educated person any-day-any-time over a formally educated counterpart that only knows how to use his/her mastery of the lingua franca to gloss his/her ignorance . Show me a half baked formally educated person and I will show you an empty vessel - pride is the order of the day among our so called formally educated lots , knowledge-wise in their chosen areas of specialization , they have nothing to offer . I am writing this , in my position as an employer of labor , based on the experiences I have had from both entities under discussion here .

The last time I checked , it is spelled " pretty " not " prity " . Maybe you can thank me later . Now , you see what I mean , education ( formal or informal ) is different from illiterate . I believe you can marry an illiterate that is formally/informally educated in your local dialect , but obviously you cannot marry someone who's not educated in either way - a DUMB ( dull-witted ) person . Someone who's unable to read/write/speak a particular language is automatically an illiterate to such language and by extension to the naive speakers of such language . But does that make the person " DUMB " , no .

I could remember vividly many times I traveled to non English speaking countries , because of my inability to speak the native languages of my hosts , some naive natives of those countries assumed that I must be an illiterate despite my bespoke and impeccable mannerism .

People tend to misunderstand the true meaning of who an illiterate is , same as the also do misunderstand who a true educated person is . Talking about education , John Major former UK prime mister had no formal education same as Jacob Zuma the current president of the republic of South Africa , yet they and others like them has been able to reach the zenith of their life aspirations . But if some of you are asked whether you can marry someone who is not formally educated , they answer will be capital NO ... Too bad .

I get ur point but thank God u said u talking 'as an employer'. We are talking about life partner not business partner.I am not saying that there are no well groomed illiterates out dere. All I am saying is dat in terms of reasoning...dere is a clear cut diff between d two. Lets look beyond English language.
For instance, I am an igbo girl and i know fully well wat i wud go thru if i eventually marry one of my ogbuefi brothers dat hv 'shade' in onitsha.no offence oh. Most of d guys dere wud either want a house wife or one who wud handle their branch 'shade'. Now again, dis ogbuefi guy wud not want me to keep associating wit my classmates infact he doesn't hv to put effort to do dat cos living wit him alone will automatically cut me off.
I might say 'honey, there is this share i want to buy..i need to find a stock broker bla bla' and he wud start to think otherwise.
I said it in my first comment dat a guy asked me this same 'marry illiterate question' i told him i can. den i asked him if this 'illiterate'( who happens to b a sec sch drop out) would allow me if per adventure my classmate bcoms a president and wants me in his cabinet. The guy cud not answer. The problem is d attitude of both the learned and unlearned not the English language.
