That's in the assumption that every Nigerian in Canada is only interested in money / material things.

Some people just want peace of mind and a stable good life in an environment that works.

I don't live in Canada but I know many Nigerians with very good jobs in the UK and US, and giving them a house in Nigeria will not really move them. Having a house for rent in Nigeria doesn't still mean stability as we know a the wahala with managing tenants in Nigeria and the hypertension that comes with it.

I agree with your point about the vibe, if you don't feel the place the it makes sense not to stay, but I disagree that you have to return to Nigeria to make it. You can make it anywhere in the world, and I will also say In Places like the US, Canada etc there is a lot more opportunity to make it as a professional based on what you bring to the table and not who you know.

I know people in jobs in Nigeria e.g. at glo or banks who hate the job but cannot leave because they got the job through one uncle and have no connection to move to another company.

I always get people telling me about coming back to Nigeria and while it is something I consider for the future, I also notice the only advantage they can tell me is you can make money easily. That's it, just money, but they don't mention there is also a huge chance of not making hour so called money.

And besides this money making is so volatile in Nigeria. Because you hit it by knowing one politician this year doesn't mean next year you will still make it.

Some people are more concerned with being context, fulfilled, happy and healthy rather than chance to hit money but so much stress.
you are right though, we all have diff definitions of success and contentment.

sorry for the digression I'm about to make but pls I would like to learn about bonds & securities investment in Naija. I tried getting the names of organizations that teach about it on Google but I keep getting gibberish results.

Please name any institution that teach about them in Naija.

I will try & Google their state location If I can get the name.
thank u for the comments o! I can see the efforts and don't want to just discourage his ideas all together.

Sister nor vex ya ...not supporting the post which made you angry o but the truth is that your husband's job description as you put it is more an 'online thing' than physical. Even if he has an office complex ....he still needs to log on online and do his thing which is why the other guy said he's a 'waster and gambler' cause thats the basis of the whole thing.

Anyway ...back to the trip thing, very simple ...relocate with him, have faith and the job will come. Good for you when you give birth over there, with the help of his uncle, your child gets a Canadian citizenship by birth which in turn secures the future for him or her. If things still going bad as in no job, return home and get things going to support your husband until he settles down.

Truth is many are relocating to Canada cause it offers the best option than Naija at this time. All the best dear.

in as much as I appreciate ur comment, you should also watch what u say. I never told u my husband was doing an online business, he has an office, a company and he is a broker and not a gambler. If u read my post carefully, I said he wants to further his studies, ( is that sitting on a computer), and I never said I make him go out to work. My husband is a very hardworking man, and there are a lot of companies that have been affected by the exchange rates even the banks. And please there is nothing like sweet promises, he has never failed in his responsibilities, am I here to seek opinion about relocating and not whether my husband is a waster or not. Please watch ur words!!!

Hello Nairalanders, Please I need ur advise. Am currently 2months pregnant, and My husband is thinking of us relocating to Canada. I currently work in the bank while my husband is into Forex and Securities Trading Business. We were doing averagely okay until last year when business started shaking, my husband has lost a lot and now he is thinking of us relocating to Canada to start afresh. If I resign and we sell our properties, and the little savings we have should be enough to sponsor him for a Postgraduate Course (2years), while I follow him as his wife ( then I get a job), he wants this option cos am a professional and I have good work experience. Option 2 is for me to do a post graduate course and he accompanies me (mayb I will get a good job fast cos of my qualifications). if I wait till we have our baby, the expenses will be much(I.e the financial requirement for the visa). My hubby's uncle is ready to assist us, but my husband doesn't want to take the risk of investing in business again. He has Sasacheskwan or Toronto in mind. I will really appreciate advise thanks
Just for the future of your baby's sake, move. There's no future in NIgeria. You said the business started shaking. You don't want to be poor in Nigeria. I'm currently in canada. Those who couldn't make it here either had no papers or are losers who got into 419 and chased around jamaican girls all day. canada is a country that you get out whatever you put in. Do your research, make competent plans, work hard and you two will be fine. Try to have your child here if possible for automatic citizenship. But definitely move to Canada if you can. That shouldn't even be debated.

There was a successful bank manager with a large house in Lekki owned by him who was doing very well in Nigeria. He was advised by his wife that they should relocate to Canada and live bigger. He foolishly heeded the advice, sold all his properties and his big house and moved on to Canada. They returned back four years later having lost everything and the marriage crashed. Canada has done a lot of havoc to Nigerians and instead of coming back they stay put tolerating the inhuman lifestyles that they are forced to inculcate and then they will be dreaming of when they will return back to Nigeria. Later, out of frustration, they will now talk evil about Nigeria claiming that Nigerians are suffering, no light, no good roads. In the end, there is regret and regret has no cure, it is worse than HIV and Ebola and in the end, like the Bible said, then desire will fail and man goes to its long home and as the preacher stated, Vanity upon vanity. Madam, Stay back and let your husband find something else to do. If he is hardworking and business is low, it is because he has not realised that the Brook cherith has dried up and that he need to do something else. For that, he should think deeply about what he is very good at that he often times overlooked. Like the woman, who was asked in the Bible, what do you have in the house? I HAVE NOTHING except a jar of ............
Lol done a lot of havoc, living in inhumane conditions, and dreaming of.coming back to.a boko haram infested country with no real future. I swear this post made my day.

bigfrancis21:
First of all, you are doing very well already in Nigeria and you have no reason at all to leave Nigeria. You have a good job + investment properties (buildings) which you own. Investing in business is preferable in Nigeria than in US or Canada (about 90% of start-ups fail in the US), high taxation (at least 35% of your profits) and there are more profit returns on investment in Nigeria than in US/Canada. When you come here, life starts afresh for you. You will discover that your foreign (Nigerian) degrees and experience are totally nothing and they don't count here and you will have to go to school for about the next 2 years (during which you will have to make-do with meagre, low-paying jobs to survive). On average, it will take you about 5 years to stand on your feet in Canada.

After going to school and getting a job, you will live an average life here in Canada, nothing exceptional or more than that. A great part of your salary will go into heavy taxes (imagine earning $5000 a month and $1200 goes to taxes leaving you with $3,800), bills (mortgage, light, water, gas, phone bills e.t.c), leaving you with just enough to survive and nothing extra. You see jobs, you will find them aplenty here but you will not be left with much as most of your money will go into taxes and bills. The average US/Canadian works to pay bills and it is an endless cycle. Several Nigerians are returning home to invest.

To be honest, life in Nigeria is better financially if you have a good job and several investments and you can always visit US/Canada for holidays.
Can you imagine all that money in taxes. It's better to not pay taxes and stay in naija. Who needs good roads, education, security, infrastructure, hospitals, Police, etc. The average nigerian in Nigeria lives in poverty while the leaders steal money and eventually come or send their children abroad ironically here. Now that's an endless cycle.

Having lived 15 years in Toronto/ Calgary. Beelon1020 is absolutely correct. You guys that immigrate to Canada from Europe ( mostly fake refugee claimants grin) always complain and can't cope here because you don't have a plan and mix with people that can't give you sound advise. Get away from the Jane/ Finch crew and mix with bright minds. I came to Canada as an international student for undergrad without knowing one person in this country. You can get a good car for $1000 max if you have the right links( bought a car within a year and had own basement apt working just a student part time job) you can Rent a very clean 2 bedroom apt/ condo. $1200 max per month Or not so clean for about $900. All utilities included. Heat in winter, ac in summer, water, hydro, laundry.
The OP and her husband will make it Canada if they plan ahead. They are both educated and in Finance which is a good field especially in Toronto. Just do some professional Canadian courses to add to your resume, CSC, CFP, CFA etc
The best option is the skilled worker program or Manitoba provincial nominee program. You become a PR upon your arrival in Canada and entitled to free health care, local tuition fees, no need of work permit. It will be very expensive coming as a student. You pay for healthcare out of pocket which is pricy and you pay intl student fees and you can't really work full time. Everything you need to make a decision is at www.cic.gc.ca don't let anyone discourage you. It's yours to discover. Canada is a great country! O Canada, we stand on God for thee grin meanwhile the cold is BRUTAL o. -35c just the other day...Arghhh. Nigeria will always be home anytime.

Even the skilled programs too aren't cheap, so in every options available one will still part with money, if its giving birth dere (huge money too), studying (involves money), even wen one travels as an Auditor (Nig certified which I read isn't recognise), additional qualificatn(involves money too), reinvesting in business again(involves both money and risk),

I really appreciate all the comments, nobody is an island of knowledge and I av really learnt a lot. The advises and comments are from both sides(the pros and cons), God bless you all. We are still praying and I know God will order our steps. I had a long chat with hubby, and really the info I got here was really helpful. The conclusion. "PLAN A"-is we won't be going this year, I will continue my job, hubby will take professional course online while continuing his business. Then I apply for either the Australia work visa or the canadian federal skilled work visa, if successful, then he will take up an affordable course, then we go as a family.(Most likely I will have my baby in nigeria). If its not successful. "PLAN B-we will both take professional courses online (and belong to foreign professional bodies), equip ourselves and keep trying. In the course of d professional courses, either of us can travel, do the exams, then come back. With this we can apply for jobs from nigeria, and try the skilled work visa again. So we won't be travelling using the "study permit with spouse thing" again, we will study here and restrategise. With prayer, hardwork, dedication we will get there. And wen we do, I always remember this thread, and be willing to help out too cos I learnt a lot. Thanks

Are Nigerian banks up to the standard of Canadian banks?

Many Nigerian banks are all about marketing and sourcing government funds and rather than proper banking in my opinion.

Lol.
In fact, most qualifications from any part of the world not just Nigeria, even the UK or US qualifications are not recognized in Canada. They are only good if you decide to use them to apply for further studies.

All this WES, IQAS, CES e.t.c are just cash grabbing organizations. Some government jobs require Iqas evaluation in Alberta but those with Canadian qualifications are likely to muscle one out of the competition.
Infact, some Ontario certificates and diploma are not even recognized in Alberta.

For regulated professions, one would need to pass the qualifying and competency exams which could take months-years to complete but once completed, one is good to go!

I have friends without any canadian education whatsoever except Nigeria degree. Canadian work experience on your resume is more favourable than just having Canadian master or education with no work experience in Canada. Even if it is just a basic job like telemarketing, customer service, cashier. From there, you will get a better job, know the system and develop a network to get a better job. There are many government funded organizations that helps newcomers to Canada get jobs and help prepare the resume all for free. I got my first job through one of those agencies. Again canada is a country of immigrants. As a professional however, you need to get canadian education to work in your field I.e doctors, nurses, lawyer, engineer, auditor, insurance etc.
Don't just do masters degree in anything and waste money and time. Look into obtaining the CGA, CA, CFP, CFA. Project management/ business analysis is also a good area. They give credits for some of the courses especially if you have accounting or finance degree, ICAN, ACCA. This is my field, so I know what I'm talking about. All in all, I will suggest coming as a skilled worker is better than coming as students. If you were single or younger, it's easier to survive being an intl student. Also just asked a friend, if you give birth in Ontario as an intl student or spouse, you are covered. You won't have to pay anything and your baby will be a citizen.
As you can see, I live here and I'm pro- Canada. If you are smart and hardworking, you will succeed here. People immigrate here everyday. Don't let people that have not being here or just hearsay discourage you. You are smart, you will make it. Believe in yourself.
