If 9ja govt is serious, fines/levies should be imposed on SA companies in 9ja to compensate families of any Nigerians killed and to those whose livelihoods were destroyed in SA.

It should run into millions of Dollars.

If they refuse to pay, let them leave, other companies will take up the opportunity and vacuum left.

Glo can expand/grow and hire more workers.

He who has ears. Irate Nigerians that are calling for the closure of MTN should understand the consequences. MTN is a law abiding company doing in business in Nigeria, the events occurring in their originating country shouldn't be used as an excuse to promote further divisions between the countries. They're a major stakeholder in the Nigerian economy and we should give them the respect they deserve. We should boycott Shell and other IOCs that degrade our environments with their business operations. Besides, its hypocrisy that a country like ours with a rich history of human rights abuses would seek revenge over acts human rights abuses in another country.

what has shell and other IOCs got to do with this? OR HAVE YOU LOST SOME VITAL PART OF YOUR SENSES?

MTN Nigeria on Monday warned that should there be attacks on its facilities, it might be forced to close shop and 99 per cent of its over 6,000 workforce in the country, who are Nigerians, would be thrown into the labour market.

It also said that calls for the boycott of its services were unjustified as such an action would affect its support chain, which could cause another 500,000 Nigerians to lose their means of livelihood.

The company stated this in Lagos some hours after two groups protested in its Abuja and Benin offices against the killing of foreigners in its home country, South Africa.

According to the Corporate Service Executive, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Wale Goodluck, there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in the country, compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians.

Goodluck said, “So, if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99 per cent of our workforce will be unemployed.

“Then, when you look at our support chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians gainfully employed. So, boycotting our services simply means destroying so many other Nigerian businesses and making over 500,000 other Nigerians to lose their jobs.

“This business supports a lot of businesses across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Many of the businesses that are affiliated to South Africa are in the retail space, supporting the growth of Nigeria and employing so many Nigerians.”

He noted that the company had spent in excess of $15bn on capital expenditure growing the telecommunications business in Nigeria.

“We see no revenge of Xenophobia and we commend the role the Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has played; at least there has been no fatality on the part of any Nigerian,” Goodluck added.

Yes indeed. Tell that to the mobs in South Africa that not one has the monopoly of senseless acts of racist violence. If it is unemployed urchins you want Nigeria has them in abundance. Our standard of living is lower than that of South Africa and our unemplyment rate is higher so we have every reason to be uninformed and violent. In the midst of our own sufferings we have Ghanian traders, Togolese craftsmen, Nigerien hustlers, Lebanese (abeg make I no talk) but never have we taken out our frustrations on them to this extent. We rather turn on ourselves and our leaders. That is what your people should be doing. Turn on your government and your crazy king who live in luxury while you suffer.

Story for the gods.....
There are at least three other similar telecom firms in Nigeria that will simply expand it's services & scope of operations and assimiliate such workforce effortlessly, or worse still, nationalise that damn offshoot company of hating barbarians called Zulus.
Just waiting for the first move to join the vandalism, after all we did not start it.

you just said what is in my mind. That threat or blackmail does not hold water at all. What nonsense. How can he say that it will affect nigerians more. The can not afford to close down MTN in nigeria, their customer base alone in Nigeria is so huge that the MTN worldwide will be affected if they lose Nigeria. Their loss will far greater that the nigerians that will be laid off. if all MTN customer migrate to other network, that means other networks will expand their customer support, their facilities will need more workforce and then they will make more money. their support base that has 500,000 workforce will equally shift to the other network that now has the former MTN customers. so his blackmail does not work he should look for something else to say.

MTN threatening Nigerians! They must be out of their mind! It is like they think they're doing Nigerians a favor whereas they are doing themselves a favor running their business in Nigeria; I believe its high time mtn is thought a good lesson not to mess with Nigerians; Have mtn not been sacking people working for mtn? Do they think those people they sacked have not gotten Jobs with better companies? Mtn should know that there are several companies operating in Nigeria & if they sack all the Nigerians working for them it will easily lead to expansion of other network providers, eg Glo, Airtel, Etisalat etc & most of the people sacked Will get employed with these network providers, while other will get jobs somewhere else. It is high time mtn is dealt with as they are arrogant just like their xenophobia infested country call South Africa: Mtn will be worse off if Nigerians boycott it services & betwr still its operations get suspended in Nigeria & Nigeria will be better off as new investors will quickly come in to fill the void. Rubbish MT yeye N.

Barber shops, etc are micro forms of investment and Africa being a poor continent they remit a lot to the survival of the economy from that very perspective. They employ a lot of the locals.

Talking about big investments. Dangote is in the cement sector of your economy and other Nigerians. Please... You aren't making sense.

do you think if those barber shops were employing locals there would have been cries about foreigners taking jobs,be realistic man, these shops are for people who are here to make a living and support their families...dangote investment is only known by you Nigerians..although am also condemning these attacks..i regret to inform you that some of the foreigners are playing a major role in fueling these incidents particularly your fellow country men...
