Story for the gods! Joblessness will only endure for a while, our families life are more precious to us. After all other Telecommunication companies will expand and absorb those affected workers and even gain from their wealth of knowledge. But come to think of it, what has MTN got to do with the Xenophobia issue? Are they the sponsor? Are they in the capacity to stop them but refuse to act? Anything you do to MTN, do equally to SHOPRITE, DSTV & GOTV. ****** I have spoken ******* 4 Likes |

I use MTN mostly, and if they close shops, then I switch over to another network and so many other Nigerians will do same. This means there will be pressure on the available networks, and the pressure will compel them to recruit more staff and expand. 6 Likes |

I like this Goodluck guy, using reverse psychology, and 'first attack'. i bet he's feeling like a boss now, dumbo. If MTN folds up, GLO, Airtel, Etisalat and O'tel would takeover the operations, and improve the scope of their businesses by buying out MTN's equipments, or better still, the Nigerian government can privatise the company and sell to the highest bidder, after all, all the profits made are repatriated back to South Africa. Just take a look at that defiant tone, as if they are doing us a favour by being in this country, citing employment figures, seems they've forgotten so fast that mtn started off by taking over and using NITEL's equipments free of charge. 8 Likes |

MTN will be the biggest losers here. They will lose their major investments and lose the Nigerian market. The biggest market on the continent. A new company will move in to fill the void. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Sweetguy25: MTN are slave drivers who are using you as cheap labour, you can see from their press releases that they don't even feel the need to speak to you in a respectful manner. No iota of respect. Think about it, they are in your country and listen to the tone they use to speak to you, warning you as if you were the one that started the problem. YOu need to show them who is boss and send out a very clear message so that they understand that you are no fool, let them go to hell with their pitiful slave labour wages, Do you know that Nigerians are the largest number of subscribers on the whole continent? They should be doing everything possible to pacify you not threatening you as if they hold all the aces. Call their bluff and kick them to the kerb and lets see who will be crying at the end of it all. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Sandydayz:what is true about it ? So if mtn leaves nigeria today our telecommunication sector will ruin? Mtn can't afford to lose the nigeria market. There is no where in the world where mtn makes the kind of profit they make in nigeria. Mtn nigeria alone accounts for 40% of mtn global profits . They should be begging to stay and not indirectly threatening us . All these beggar mentality that nigerians have must stop. It is mtn that needs us ,we don't need mtn. If mtn leaves nigeria today 10 big telecoms operators worldwide will fight for her license. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

We have more than 100k staffs lay off every year from banks, companies, businesses, e.t.c so no excuse to close your company because of civil action taken against you. There is no country in Africa that generate money for MTN like Nigeria. Well good luck sha Zain go Airtel come 2 Likes |

It will only be mischievous 4 Nigerians to reciprocate their anger by impeding or disrupting South African owned business in Nigeria.... There is a better nd decent way to do things. 2 wrongs can't make a Right........mbuk!!!! |

Instead of negotiating peacefully and urging their government to respond, they've decided to threaten us with job losses ko? MTN has now become equivalent to blackmailers, kidnappers and terrorists. I say call their bluff. Let the boycott begin. What nonsense! 6 Likes |

onatisi: Look, MTN is really annoying with this their "posture"! They cant blackmail us with "Unemployment"! Well, if they close down shop and retrench those numbers they claim: 1.) other telecoms Coys like Glo, Airtel, EtiBaba, e.t.c will move-in on their market share and expand their own business. 2.) Customers will also port to other Networks 3.) Combination of (1) and (2) above will create more jobs and absorb whatever slack, results from the MTN debacle. 4.) They will suffer collosal loss as most of the infrastructures they have on ground would either lay waste of be auctioned to their competitors! But then, MTN will go bankrupt as close to 70% of their Business profit, comes from Nigeria. They know it and we know it so, let them STOP these their "gra-gra" shakara! Same goes for DSTV, Shoprite, e.t.c. They either put pressure on their Govt to stop the Attacks..... or they suffer the consequence over here as well. we will call their bluff. 7 Likes 1 Share |

cap28:MTN and other south african companies have condemned the events occurring in their country, I see no reason why we should cry more than the bereaved. Nigerian and Indian companies pay worse than MTN. Also, MTN makes a lot of money from Nigeria because of their highly effective business model. There's no point in showing them who's boss or whatever, that unreasonable and it should only happen on events that were caused by MTN. 1 Like |
