hayorbaami: The pictures Coogar posted are from the western part of the country... They're kinda for commercial production and are usually sited a distance from the house. mostly in farmlands OP's picture is from the eastern part of the country particularly Nsukka axis.. You'll find that in almost every traditional kitchen in that axis. 1 Like |

JuanDeDios: be deceiving yourself..... they sweat, spit & blow their noses in those pits. since the oil is still going to be cooked at huge temperatures, no one cares what happens during the stomping. matter of fact, the more impurities during the stomping, the tastier it gets. 1 Like |

Ewuro4: There are wines made in similar fashion , traditionally and locally made wines in Europe are made by stomping on grapes ( some of them ). At least the dodo ikere and palm oil go through some form of purification , frying and cooking , before it is consumed. |

Re: For Ladies Who Grew Up In The Village. Did You Do This (picture) by JuanDeDios: 2:58pm On Jun 07, 2015 |
coogar:You ARE exaggerating. I have witnessed the process extensively and no one spat or sweated. Ok, maybe in those pits - some people can be terrible. I'm more familiar with the smaller earth and wood mortars that you don't have to live inside like those guys in your picture. Maybe that's why my mom used to avoid "Igbo oil" - she could tell them with her nose. |
