@Segun1976 Congrats.
as stated, nothing unusual in d production. I know of a farm that picked just 2 eggs every day for the 1st 2 wks of lay but they are getting more than 50% now less than four weeks of lay.

House. Smone shd pls help me out with what can be used to keep SNAKE away from my farm
Apologies to the house that i have not updated on my project so far.

Just to report our progress so far.
Thank God, the birds are looking healthy, mortality has been only 4. The little challenge we have now is that production has not increased as rapid (as expected) as i read in literatures. At the moment the birds are at 24 wks and production is at 10%. Feed consumption is about 90g/bird/day.

We have treated for lice, de-wormed and planning lasota for next week.

Being a first-time farmer, one need to ask if we are doing well @ this juncture.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 4:31pm On Jun 17, 2015
segun1976. The obvious thing wrong with your management practices is the quantity of feed being fed the birds. Birds require significant increase in their daily consumption the moment the first egg is laid. At this stage, each bird should be eating about 110g/day. Are you still on Growers mash? If yes, given the age of the birds, I'll say you switch to layers. My pullets are also 24 weeks 2 days & we are doing over 50%. Significantly increase their daily feeds intake, photostimulate & give vitamins. Success.

Executive toast to our sure success... to all the hustlers-cum-farmers in the house. I have been following this page for a month now. I visit it like 10 times a day. Wonderful contributions I see here. Keep it up peeps, still sourcing fund to erect my small farm.

barrackodick. I wouldn't know what your experience has been. However, I make bold to say that poultry is a knowledge-based industry. You may pray and "faith" all you want, if you don't do the right thing, you'll end up failing. Poultry is scientific, not spiritual. Get & apply the right knowledge & success is assured.

Eggcelent. Thats how religion is killing us in this country.

@Eggcellent, thx for the prompt feedback.
The isu is that the pen wasn't wired for bulbs, so photostimulation is notpossible immediately. 2wks ago weattempted increasing the feed but the feeding troughs were not emptied by the birds.
A check on 2 other farmers who also collected POLs from the same btch as ours shows one is @ 15% & the other less than 10%.
We have taken blood samples for some tests & should get the results tomorrow.
Would administer vitamins ASAP.
Advice from senior farmers that have similar experiences in the past is still highly welcome.

I wish your birds quick recovery bro.

Farmers in the house have already given workable solutions. Lots of vitamins/appetisers and iodine should work God's willing.

@eggcellent and other experts in d house i have to commend u pple.ur contributions have been very helpful.pls what can be the cause of temporary paralysis in 23wks layers that have been treated with anti viral
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 9:35pm On Jun 17, 2015
aralgreen. Please, clarify what you mean by "TEMPORARY"? segun1976. It is expected that the birds do not finish their increased feeds initially. They would get to do that within days IF they have well-developed crops. The photo stimulation/midnight lighting will also help in that regard as the birds can eat at night. In the meantime, encourage your staff to "refresh" the feeds as a way of stimulating the birds to eat more. Success.

As per above. I will advice you not to worry and trigger any panic alarm for now. The birds will peak with time. just encourage them to eat more as stated above. look for ways of giving extra lights.

Serious oo. After the treatment let's see what happens. It may be due to illness or feed quality, hard to tell which. What was your vaccination plan like?

You will dilute the cyperforce base on the instruction on it and you can spray directly on birds with a knapsack sprayer, endeavour to spray your walls too, becos most of the lice will go take refuge there, and later get back to the birds. the way it stands now, ensure you do the spraying the evening of the very day you gave them the ivermectin,so that the lice dont escape. Please how is their poo? what color are they? what antibiotics are you giving them now? i am waiting to see your vaccination plan. Can we see the feed formula?

I gave tylodox which was effective for my birds according to lab test. Also gave vitamins and I worked on reducing temperature. When they recovered, I vaccinated with lasota and repeat every 4wks due to the heat and bc high temperature is immunosuppressive.
