Good morning all, please this is the second month my birds of 500 though 480 now started laying and they were doing about 50% production. Now they re doing about 45%. Please what could be the problem. The major production is more of pulled eggs. Please someone advice cause we have gone bankrupt feeding birds.

Have you done something to the wall(height of the fence. Could be a major determinant because of ventilation and associated respiratory disease.
as suggested earlier you may consider deep litres or think of giving them Embaceryl or Neoceryl at least Thrice every week. This will however increase your cost of production but will definitely increase their production.

please are u suggesting that he should increase the height of the wall or what? how does the height of the wall determine the birds respiratory health? I also read thru her thread. nobody suggested that he shud switch to deep litter. please clarify ur position, Boss.

I am really learning and will need to learn more before i commence my farm

That is nt wat he is saying, from my experience if there is no adequate ventilation on the farm. One may experience issues like this farmer is experiencing. Also when building a pen it nt advisable to build on the wall or close to the wall. I have experience a sitaution like that on the farm, where we had thick bush or grass any hw u call it. Until we started making sure that we cut dem routinely dat when we started seeing more eggs. Also ventilation is also very important when constructing a pen.

thanks for your reply. I now understand.

I intend planting some trees (e.g pawpaw and maybe plantain) around my fence which will be in close proximity to my poultry pen (still under construction). Pls is this advisable? the pen was not built into the wall and it also has a roof vent. do you think I will have ventilation problems?

I plan on starting extremely small (at home) just to get a hang of how the business works, but it would be nice to get an idea of what the business could potentiality become. Please if this is okay by you you can email me at clubbadass@gmail.com or give me your email and I can contact you. Thank you in advance

The rate at which people invest in livestock (industry) business keep increasing by the day, same is the rate at which investors leaves the industry (business). To remain in livestock business:
1. Get a good livestock personnel(s)
2. Desist from 'I will do it myself' syndrome
3. Avoid patronage of quacks as many farmers have been sent to early graves
4. Don't vaccinate birds by yourself
5. Say No to cheap and sweet talks, truth is always expensive and bitter.
Don't join the long list of livestock farmers now languishing at home with their self award title of 'Ex-Livestock Farmer' ELF
Let's talk about Livestock Management and Business Administration, hence the Project Management in general

It is fine, when i get in I will post here to remind you guys. As I have said before, there is nothing special in my farm, I am a self thought and learning from this thread, I don't want to get anyone's hope too high. I like this industry and want to eventually go all the way, and still relatively stay unique.

There is enough ventilation, usually the place is very very airy.

Thank God I found this thread.
pls, I'm in a similar situation here. I have about 50 layers, 22wks old, only 1 is laying already.
My pen is always clean, well ventilated & spacious 4 the birds. they are well fed also.
the guy guiding me had said they ought to have started laying btwn 18- 20wks and so,he said l should give them egg formula 2 promp them laying bt 2 other friends rearing layers suggested using keproceryl/ neoceryl on them.
I'm kind'f worried here.

Can you check their weight to see if most of them are up to 1.5kg. If yes you can start giving them extra light at night if you can be consistent.

Hello house, please i need your opinion on this.... my broilers are 3 weeks and 3 days old and i have been feeding them vital feeds since onset. however someone advised me to switch to hybrid feeds from finisher stage cos the feed is very good. Please has anyone used hybrid feeds and is it good or better than vital?
