Hi VO,

My K1 interview comes up soon!!! shocked.I know I only need to show some files/documents to the interviewing officer when/if asked. I just want to know which documents are mandatory for me to submit at the Consulate so I keep them in a separate file. Thank you.

This should be listed in the information packet we sent out. The officer will want to see your birth certificate, documents showing how any prior marriages ended for both of you, police certificate, medical paperwork, affidavit of support, and any evidence of the relationship. Good luck!

Dear Vo,

NVC request for my finger print, can i do it where i am staying or must it be in a particular place in Lagos.

Thanks.

You'll have to come to the Consulate for us to take your prints. Please e-mail LagosIV@state.gov to set up an appointment.

Cute cat. Looks like she missed you just as much as we did.

Got an email from NVC last week saying my documentation is complete and interview should be scheduled soon.

When can I expect that to be? And would my wife be required to come down?

LGS2014556014

Thanks as always

Your wife won't be required to come down. (We only ask to see petitioners when there are issues with the case that can't be resolved just by talking with the beneficiaries.) My best guess, which is only a guess, is that you might be scheduled for an October interview. Since I'm not in Lagos any more I can't be more definitive.

thats good but my case has been completed since June 16 till today I've not received any interview appointment, please help me. what is going on with nvc?

They're working through a surge in their caseload, I know. I'd advise you to contact them directly and ask them when they think they'll be able to schedule an appointment for you.

Hello VO
welcome back.
my priority date is 4th August 2014.
case completed on 16th June 2015.
Do I have to wait over a year to be with my husband?
No interview date till date.
please, I will like to know if nvc is done scheduling September interview for CR1.
thank you dear VO.

If your case is complete, it'll join the queue to be scheduled for the next available appointment date. I believe September scheduling is finished (but I'm not in the field at the moment, so I can't say that for sure). NVC should be looking at October and maybe even November by now. Good luck!

so hpow can i prove strong ties

If you have strong ties, and you answer the officer's questions honestly, the officer will know you have strong ties. It's not something you can (or should attempt to) come across as having, if you don't have it. It's possible that your ties just aren't strong enough to qualify.

I remember that you wrote that you felt you'd been racially profiled, because when you interviewed in the Ukraine, it appeared to you that the Ukrainian applicants all got visas while you did not. Keep in mind that your ties to your home country were being evaluated -- and there you were, in the Ukraine, trying to go to the U.S. rather than back to your home country. I can't say for sure without having interviewed you myself, but just based on what you've written, it does sound like your ties to your home country may not be that strong. No offense -- just letting you know how this looks from where I'm sitting, based on the information you've shared.

(On a personal note, I just want to add that I truly believe that if someone were the type of person who would "racially profile" applicants, he or she would not last very long in the Foreign Service. This isn't a career that attracts closed-minded people in the first place, and those few who do blunder into our enclosures had better either evolve or depart. As Russell Crowe wrote on Twitter a couple years back: "Bigots & homophobes not welcome in this village." )

Your priority date is the date that your petition was filed with USCIS. But as an IR2, you don't need to worry about your priority date. As soon as your petition is approved and your case is documentarily complete, it will be scheduled for the next available interview. Immediate Relative (IR) cases are always current -- no waiting period.

Tnx for d reply VO

Great. Thanks. Was really hoping it would be the case that she didn't need to fly down.

Anytime between October and early December would be perfect for me.

Thanks a ton. As always

Hello Sir. Thank you so much for what you 've done in this forum and specifically in this thread. I would like to have one question:

I am currently applying to be trainee in the U.S in hospitality. I have got accepted by a resort in California and on my way to wait for DS2019 document to arrive from an U.S sponsor company. I hope to bring my husband on a J2 visa. However, several people went on J1 visa before said it is best to go separately, and married candicates on J1 visa often are denied by the U.S consulate or embassy. Is it true that married people are harder to go in J1 visa than in other visa category, sir? What advice do you have for us to be both able to pass the interview and go to the States? I have been to the U.S on B1/B2 visa and other countries, but my husband havent travelled anywhere yet.

Thank you so much! And I look forward to hearing from you.

It would be great if no one had to wait at all, but the reality is that NVC processes an incredible quantity of cases, and our resources are finite. So, no, I don't think the waiting period is longer than it should be. I think that all things considered, we're surprisingly efficient. But I also understand that it doesn't feel that way to people who are waiting for their appointments to be scheduled.

I'd e-mail the Consulate (or Embassy if he interviewed in Abuja) and ask for more information. We wouldn't dismiss someone out of hand just on the basis of a passport number; after all, it's possible that there was a data entry error at some point. If someone came in for a K1 interview, we'd likely have his photo and fingerprints on file.

Hello VO,

My sibling filed for an immigrant visa for me since 2013, we just got notified by NVC that we can start gathering documents for review. My questions are these
1. How long does it take NVC to review documents submitted
2. How long will it be before an interview date will be given
3. Will my husband and daughter go with me to the interview as they were not initially petitioned for
4. Will we be required to pay visa fees for them at the embassy
5. How much will their visa fees cost

Thank U for ur prompt response.
Regards cheesy

Hi everyone here, let me first thank God for my life and my family as a whole. Everybody on this thread will agree with me that words enough can not appreciate the VO, I only pray to God for the best for you in all your endeavors, thank you so much for your time and contributions, to the other members of the thread who in one way or the other has helped in my Visa procurement, I say thank you, to the successful applicants, congratulations, those still waiting, keep the faith, God will answer your prayers, you shall all find favor and mercy, glad to tell you have since last month been reunited with my dad here in Houston, nice city but very hot, very hot I mean, you need to see me during the fasting hours, (Ramadan). It wasn't easy, expecting the winter in days time, anyway that was a little gist, thank you all and best of luck.

It usually takes NVC around 30-60 days to review documents -- sometimes much less though. At any rate, no matter how long the document review takes, siblings currently have a waiting period of around 12 or 13 years from the date of filing to the date of their interviews. The good news is that your husband and any children can certainly be included in the case; just let NVC (or, later, the Embassy or Consulate) know that you're married with children. Usually, all fees are paid to NVC before an appointment is scheduled.

I have no idea what the visa fee will be by the time your case is scheduled for an interview. Right now it's $325 per person.

The filing date is the date on which the petition is received (also known as the priority date). Right now F4 petitions that were filed on or before Dec. 1, 2002, are eligible to be scheduled for interviews. You can monitor priority dates at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/law-and-policy/bulletin.html .

Congratulations! All the information you'll need can be found at http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html . Keep in mind that medical paperwork is valid for at most six months and police certificates are valid (for immigration purposes) for one year, so you will probably want to wait until you know your appointment date before you obtain those documents.

Often NVC says that a case is "at post" when it's actually "on its way to post." And we often say "It's still at NVC" when what we should say is "It's not here yet." So it's probably in transit.

I apologize for the rudeness... thank you for the reminder of how important customer service is.

Back again with another question...

My fiance surrendered his passport before it expired (exp. December 2014) in order to have some data changed on it. He is still yet to receive his updated passport yet. We are stuck in the TSC backlog but the light at the end of the tunnel is nearing... we will be able to schedule his interview soon, I believe (and pray). Will we be able to use the old passport info to schedule the appt?
Thanks for any info!
