I was so gullible, naive and was myopic about the present day govt like my parents and everyone in the same societal class(i call 'em proles) until i read 1984, my thinking changed bout the whole world and the present day govt. Things we're seeing now is just a pawn in a much larger chess game there's more to it. I'd love to think we're operating a capitalist state in disguise(have my reasons).
