I love Nwakali's interview. Totally apt and straight up, I liked the part he said "...if the coaches felt those on the pitch were better than those on the bench, those on pitch should have done better"(minus Awoniyi). This just reiterates that Manu and his staff are 150% responsible for our prepostrous showing

Y minus Awoniyi? Infact his own case is even the most questionable. How could d coach have preferred to field Awoniyi instead of a more clinical and polished centre forward like Success?
Yes Bulbwa played instead of Iheanacho. At U17 Bulbwa was better than Iheanacho. He only failed d MRI and Iheanacho had d chance. Bulbwa benched Iheanacho for most of d CAF U20 qualifiers though Iheanacho was nt released for the CAF U20 tourney.

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi was prefered ahead of Nwakali due to similar reasons like Bulbwa/Iheanacho. Ifeanyi failed MRI at U17.He was back for d U20 & still maintained superiority over Nwakali.

Ifeanyi Mathew also failed MRI @ U17. He has been playing in d NPFL since then and seemed to impress d coaches. Though I may personally prefer Yahaya(hu i blieve is more talented) ahead of him.

Kingsley Sokari has played for both the Home based Super Eagles and U23. He aldo plays for Enyimba FC. He seemed to b one of d most experienced professional players in dat team.I am nt surprised he got regular starting shirts.

Saviour Godwin, according to what d press reported, performed so wonderfully in the Camp in Germany and so received d coaches' backing to start most of d matches.

So Safarigirl, one can justify to a large extent some if d coaches' selections b t dat of Awoniyi ahead of Success is something I as a person cannot understand. Look at d 2goals scored by Success in d few minutes of d games he played Awoniyi would have missed them (1st goal against Brazil and 4th goal against Korea DPR).Awoniyi is a striker that gets 5 chances and converts 1 or 2. While Success can have even half a chance and convert it. I know that if Success had started dat game against Germany mayb, jst mayb we would have gotten d equalizer.

So my dear, selection of Awoniyi ahead if Success also contributed to the team's failure.

Truth be told, most of those boys were nt ready for d competition at U20 level especially d once that won d U17.We paraded d youngest team with 70% of our players 17-18 yrs olds. They may jst need to feature in d next U20 of which dey are still elligible. And then dey would have matured more in d game.

I have ardently followed youth football for well over 30 yrs & I even created a thread on y d Flying Eagles failed in New Zealand.I tried posting it twice bt i was banned for antispam bot or whatever. So i jst gave up on it.I was one of d very few Nigerian football enthusiasts dat predicted that dat Flying Eagles team were nt Champions materials. Trust me, i have seen better flying eagles teams than d last one. Yet those earlier ones did nt win d WYC.

A few words will serve 4 now... Sir Icon4s, I'm afraid u got a lot of things mixed up in ur essay. Like Ifeanyi Ifeanyi was never a member of d team at d u-17 level be it caf or fifa. He joined d team during d screening exercise 4 d caf u-20 cup of nations qualifiers.
And pls Sir, Mri or not, Iheanacho is leagues above Bulbwa. And yes, beliv it or not Sir, dat team, youngest or not, dat went to NZ WUD HV CONQUERED D WORLD IF NOT 4 MANU'S BLIND PRIDE AND ABSOLUTE FOOLISHNESS.
Nwakali is a responsible young man and wouldn't want to stain his coaches' name but by reading btwn d lines in his interview, One can discern d fact dat he knows sumtin and was just keeping himself 4m saying it.

I'm sorry but I must stop here... I beliv I've gone past d 'a few words' mark... *smiles*

some of these flying eagles need to take some lessons in press etiquette from awoniyi. When pressmen try to put words in your mouth, they just try to make headlines and sell papers, they're not concerned about the fallouts you might fall into with your coach. I promise nwakali, if manu is anything like keshi, he should bid the team farewell.

Manu does not have a team again, so nothing to fear for the lad.

I don't agree with icon about that team. Didn't he watch the first game with Brazil? Compare that performance with the rest in the tournament. You're simply rationalizing the loss with your pre-tournament bias.

Isn't you guys that said Serbia is a very beatable team, who will not go far, so we should pray to play them instead of Germany? But who won the tournament? That shows you don't know as much as you think you do.

You may have followed other teams, but that team was different. If we had played to our strength and Manu was not sentimental in his selection, we'd have won the tournament. You keep your best team on the bench, professional players, and you say the team is not a champion material. Of course! Only players on the field can make things happen. And yes, the ones on the pitch just were not good enough.

History will not forgive Manu Garba for ruining that team's chances.

We dnt know that team as much as Manu Garba does. He groomed them right from d U17. Infact, some if those boys have been together since U13. Manu knows what each player can bring to d table. He knows what each player can offer as a team member.I as a person do nt have issues with some of his selections with d exception of d choice of Awoniyi over Success. I understand dat Yahaya and Iheanacho did nt do well enough to support d midfield against Brazil which really exposed our defence. He probably prefered Matthew, Sokari and Saviour bc of their strenght in d midfield.

Manu could not have deliberatly wanted to fail as a coach.

Pls check d FIFA record, no team has won d U17 & 2 yrs later won d U20. The usual trend is most times the players dat won d U17 will form d core of d next U20 & dat has proven several times nt to work. This method will shot out other players that are within dat age grade dat are doing well else where. What u'll end up having is an U19 team while others are presenting U20. That 1 yr differential counts alot. Are u telling dat Nacho and Awoniyi have nt improved their games from where dey were abt 1yr ago.

The coach understanding what effect dat 1yr age gap could have on d team brought in some older players like : Sokari, Saviour and Simon.

Yes we will always encourage continuity bt it does nt mean dat other players that impress should nt given d opportunity. It takes only abt 4-6 players of same class ti form a golden generation at d senior level nt dat all d 11players in d team would come from same class.

Some pple say the whole U20 team should b graduated to d U23. I personally feel 70% of those Manu's boys should repeat U20 in 2yrs time. Imagine how good d likes of Yahaya, Awoniyi,, Idowu, Mustapha,,Ezeh, Mohammed & Mathew would b in 2yrs time if dey improve in their clubs. By then i would say they are ready to face d U20 challenge.

Can't beleive icon4s continues to justify Manu's partiality. What was correct in playing Bulbwa ahead of Iheanacho? Where is the Bulbwa now? You know what it means to make the 23-man list of a top 4 team in the EPL as an 18-year old African? An untried one at that. And you want to compare such class with mediocre Bulbwa? No be the Awoniyi wey you say play rubbish Liverpool come sign? Your awesome, 'experienced' Sokari and all the Ifeanyis where are they now? If I was Nwakali, I would rub mud all over Manu and co, na only Siasia yansh e gats kiss for now, Manu just may be finished in coaching just like Keshi cuz of jolosi, pride and bad belle, but Nwakali has a lot ahead of his young life, Manu's pettiness no fit pour sandsand for my guy garri

I know Sir Icon4's problem. He is so into records and statistics dat he keeps saying,"no team dat conquered d world at u-17 level goes on to do so at U-20 level."

Now I ask this, does it mean there's no chance of it ever happening? What kind of mentality are u selling Sir?

I believe 'anything' is possible if u put ur heart to it.

Besides, Knowledge like yours is 'truly Power' only When You know what facts to ignore.

B4 Enyimba ruled Africa, d caf champions league title was Nigeria's Holy Grail in African Club football. It was always said dat until we get our league right, no Nigerian club will break dat jinx. Did we get our league rite? OF COURSE NOT!
It was d belief and determination of 'I CAN' dat got them dat elusive title BACK-TO-BACK.
I witnessed history on tv dat day in ismaily as an 11/12yr-old.

There are millions of examples of teams and people who defied d theory called 'THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.'

And pls Sir, never u place Bulbwa in d same league as Iheanacho or Savior in d same level as Yahaya/Simon Moses Or worst, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi in d same league as Nwakali. NA WA 4 U O! It's lyk comparing a mazda to a Porsche or Ferrari. Iheanacho, Yahaya, Nwakali, Simon and a few oda genuine articles(lyk Awoniyi, Success, Chidera Ezeh, Musa Mohammed, Alampasu, Ndidi, Ifeanyi Matthew, MuaZAM, Z.Bello, Akinjide Idowu, Obinna Nwobodo) are d future of d Super Eagles.
Manu Garba messed up big time and Nwakali is right to convey his frustrations in d subtle manner he did. There was no need 4 'interview etiquette' as sum1 else suggested coz IT'S THE TRUTH WE'RE DEALING WITH HERE. My Goodness!

ICON4... Hmmm

I dont wanna write an epistle... . Manu pressed the self-destruct button...
It is true no coach would deliberately wanna fail but when your thinking is beclouded by pride and hard headedness (whatever that may mean), failure becomes inevitable.

There are things people dont know that occured in NZ.. Anyway that is bygone nw.

But for the records... NIGERIA HAD A WINNING SQUAD..

I really have huge respect for Manu but truth be told.. There must have been something that happened in camp that we don't know, after all he was the one that selected the squad.. coz from all logical reasoning angles. .Manu's decision to bench one of the most lethal attack (simon, success, kelechi and yahaya) in NZ is baffling till today.

We will know as time goes on what they are all covering.. coz the teams exit is as painful as that of SE 94 set and fans wont forget easily.

Excellent! ! ! That is just the point. NIGERIA , AT THE TOURNAMENT, HAD A WINNING SQUAD... And indeed the very best, most lethal, and most dreaded attack at NZ. But our 'best knights' were benched coz, in Sir Icon4's words, "...Manu knows the team." hian! ! !
In soccer history, Manu's actions will go down as one of the most preposterous and most floccipaucinihilipilificated Ever.

Dream Team’s Amuzie undergoes surgery in Italy
Dream Team VI defender, Stanley Amuzie, has undergone a major knee surgery at his base in Italy and will be out of action for at least nine months.
Top officials informed africanFootball.com that the full back ruptured his cruciate ligaments during a CAF U-23 Championship qualifier against Congo in Pointe Noire earlier this month.
The injury forced him out of the match after just 25 minutes of action.
Amuzie, who joined Italian club Sampdoria after his contract at Sassuolo ended, has been one of the standout performers in the Olympic Team managed by Samson Siasia.

Hull City boss praises Akpom's wonderful start

Akpom has got off to a wonderful start at Hull City
Hull City manager Steve Bruce has showered encomiums on Nigerian youngster Chuba Akpom for a wonderful start in the English Championship, saying the Arsenal loanee will get better as the season progresses.
Bruce has seen Akpom net his first senior goals with sumptuous finishes against Huddersfield and Accrington and he said he can only get better.
"He has a lot to do and a lot to learn. But, in terms of raw talent, you don't have to watch him long to realise the natural ability that he has. Only a few are blessed with that,” said the Hull City manager.
"He has to learn and this league will teach him that. Had he scored (against Wolves), that would have been three in three for him. It's been a wonderful start.
"He turns round and runs at defenders, that is when it is tough for the opposition. He has an outstanding chance because of his ability."

Chidiebere Nwakali: Why Man City’s Nigerian Neymar remains a promising talent

Chidiebere Nwakali has not been as lucky at Manchester City as his compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho, but he still remains one of the most talented and promising young Nigerian footballers coming through.
Discovered at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, Nwakali has shown huge potential and will get regular playing time at Malagueno in Spain’s lower divisions, where he has been sent on loan by Manchester City.
Quick Facts
Name: Chidiebere Chijioke Nwakali
Age: 18
Height: 1.73m
Position: Defensive midfield/Right Back/Center Back
Club: Malagueno (on loan from Manchester City)
Chidiebere Nwakali is an all-action box-to-box midfielder whose energy never seems to fade during games. Though still needs to improve on his concentration, Nwakali’s ball winning ability far supersedes his years and having spent time at Manchester City’s Elite Development Program before being sent on loan to Spain, he is expected to improve and get better with more game time.
Nwakali’s younger brother, Kelechi, is the present Nigeria U17 captain.
Key Strengths
Nwakali, even though a natural holding midfielder, can play in a variety of positions across the back four and has often been deployed as either a right back or a center back. One of his key strengths remains his ball winning and retention ability.
Nwakali can keep possession of the ball if his team is looking at protecting a lead, and also has the energy to burst forward to create attacks, or to gazump opponents and win possession if they are under attack.
Stats
Nwakali is yet to play an awful lot of club games since joining Manchester City, but has made appearances for both the Nigeria U17 and U20 teams.
He has played over 30 games for both teams, and has scored two goals in competitive games.
Interested Clubs
After the 2013 U17 World Cup, Nwakali was linked with FC Porto and Tottenham Hotspur, but eventually joined Manchester City.
Quote
“I have confidence in my ability and I know I just need to keep working hard,”Nwakali told sl10.ng in May, 2015.

Nigeria: Clubs Frustrating My Plans, Siasia Cries Out to NFF

By Duro Ikhazuagbe
Samson Siasia's desire to qualify Nigeria's Under-23 team for the 11th All Africa games scheduled for Congo Brazzaville in September is being frustrated by Premiership clubsides.
Ex-intermational former Super Eagles handler complained officially to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during the week. Most of the invited players from the domestic league were held back to either play in yesterday's Match Day 24 games of the Glo Premier League or the semi finals of the 2015 Federation Cup.
Siasia therefore wants the NFF to come to his aid by talking to clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League to release their players for preparation for the African Championship that will serve as the last hurdle to qualifying for Congo Brazzaville 2015. He had earlier expressed his frustration at Tuesday evening training session at the FIFA Goal Project when he had only eight of the invited players to work with.
"How can I prepare well for a competition as important as the All Africa Games when clubs in the local scene have refused to release their players for the camping exercise? We have barely two weeks to our first game and up till now I have only 8 players to work with. "Most of the club managers called to appeal that we allow their players play last weekend games, a request I approved, with an appeal to them that they should release the players on Monday. This is Tuesday and I still have not seen the players as most of them have called to say their clubs are holding on to them for mid-week games. This is not fair," complained Siasia on telephone chat with THISDAY. To make matters worse, some of the invited players who arrived camp earlier, had to leave camp to report to the Super Eagles camp to which they have also been invited by Coach Sunday Oliseh. According to Coach Siasia, he had to make this appeal to the NFF who are his employers and the father of all to intervene on the issue because as things stand now, he cannot submit a list of players for the All Africa Games, as some of his players have gone abroad to sign for clubs.
Appealing to the clubs to help him out, the U-23 coach said they should give him all the assistance and cooperation they gave him in the early stages of his preparations for the qualifiers as that is the only way he can make the nation proud. As at Tuesday's training only eight players, Segun Oduduwa, Sincere Seth, Ikechukwu Okorie, Oliseh Ndah, Etebong Elisha, Oladapo Augustine, Mohammed Yusuf and Abiodun Akande trained, while Tonbara Tiongoli, Semiu Laidi and Ndifreke Effiong sat out due to various injury concerns.
Meanwhile, Siasia has invited three more players to beef up the team. The invited players are ‎Stephen Eze (Sunshine Stars), Lawal Shittu (Giwa FC) and Christian Pyagbara (Sharks FC). Coach Siasia said he expects all the invited players to report to camp by today after their mid week games.

Bala in line for Trencin debut

Aliko Bala
By: George Akpayen
Nigerian youngster Aliko Bala is set to make his competitive debut for Slovakian champions, AS Trencin, in their season opener against Ružomberok at the Mestský futbalový štadión Na Sihoti on Sunday.
The teenage winger, who joined the Trencin club in June, has been named in the match day squad by Ivan Vrabec.
The winger has told supersport.com of his excitement of joining the AS Trencin set-up.
Bala is already braced for the challenge at the Trencin club and wants to hit the ground running.
"I am very happy with my move to Trencin. I hope to show myself well and to give my best for my new club," the 18-year-old said.
The attacking winger is regarded as a direct replacement for Moses Daddy Simon, who left the club for Belgian side, KAA Gent in January this year.
One man, who worked with Bala on a daily basis while cutting his teeth as a football apprentice at the famed GBS Academy in Jos, Ibrahim Ahmed, spoke of the winger's talent.
He goes on to state that Bala "is a very big talent with a big future."
"Aliko is a very big talent with a big future. He's one of the best we have worked with here at the academy. He is nicknamed Di Maria due to his style, his great pace, amazing dribbles and scoring ability," said the GBS Academy head of operations.
Bala has been assigned squad number 16 and will team up with his Nigerian compatriots, Kingsley Madu and Rabiu Ibrahim, who have been capped at senior international level.

I wonder why many still find it difficult pointing out Manu's errors.
Very simple, Manu was incompetent at that level of football. U17 is far inferior technically and tactically to U20.
Manu was overwhelmed and tactically inadequate to play with the big dogs at U20 level
When your players go abroad, you need a coach that has vast tactical and technical ability to handle such players, making maximum use of such players in accordance to the little experience they must have gained under highly rated coaches.

Manu is a good coach but only good enough for the U17 team else he needs more technical and tactical coaching trainings to bring him onto the U20 level.

Nigeria U23 striker Godwin Saviour will wear jersey number 30 at Belgian club KV Oostende after he signed a three-year contract with the high-flying Belgian club on Friday.
On Saturday, he also jumped straight into action when he turned up for the KVO second team in a friendly against second division SV Roeselare. It was just a day after he arrived in Belgium.
“The warm welcome I received at the club has further boosted my confidence and I wish to do even more to justify my new deal,” Saviour told AfricanFootball.com
“I have been shown my flat and taken around the stadium and training ground.
“That was why when I was asked to feature for the second team in a friendly on Saturday, I did not hesitate. I am ready to give everything to my new club as soon as possible.”
The FC Sports of Jos star, 18, also said he picked No 30 because other numbers he would have fancied have already been snapped up.
“It’s a good number and I hope it brings me some luck,” he said.

Godwin Saviour wins over Oostende president

KV Oostende president Coucke shares a happy moment with Saviour's agent Bertram Ekenwa on Saturday.
Nigeria U23 star Godwin Saviour has already won the heart of the millionaire president of KV Oostende Marc Coucke, who described him as “a gentleman and sportsman”.
Saviour gets jersey No 30
KV Oostende staged a massive transfer coup when they won the race for Saviour’s signature ahead of bigger Belgian clubs Anderlecht, Club Brugge and Gent.
The majority shareholder of KVO Coucke hosted Saviour and his agent, Bertram Ekenwa, to a special lunch at his castle along with his family.
He praised the agent for the professional manner the transfer transactions came through.
On his personal Twitter handle, the club boss welcomed the Nigeria star, describing him as a gentleman and a sportsman.
And the following day, Coucke sat beside Ekenwa to watch Saviour feature in a friendly game for the KVO second team.
Coincidentally, Saturday was Saviour’s 19thbirthday and he played the entire duration of the game, which the KVO second team lost 4-0 to second division Roeselare.
“I am excited to be here and playing with my teammates was great, though we lost the game. I am very happy to debut, the people around me at the club, the players, coaches and officials are good. They give me hope and confidence," remarked Saviour after the game.
"I promise to give my best to the team to get to the top."
The youth international said he looks forward to meeting up with fellow Nigerian Joseph Akpala.
"I have never met him, I watched him play. He is my big brother from Nigeria and happy to have him as my team mate," he said.

Nigerian youngster Ikpeazu scores for Port Vale.
Nigerian youngster Uche Ikpeazu was among the goals as his English League One side Port Vale thrashed Doncaster Rovers 3-0.
The Watford loanee put his side 2-0 up when he scored in the very first minute of the second half to disorganise the opponents.
Incidentally, the big, 20-year-old striker was on loan at Doncaster last season.
He was delighted with the goal and the victory.
"Great win lads worked hard & we got the 3 points we deserved good to get another goal, now it's time to move on to the next game. #pvfc #GIG", he tweeted.

Port Vale 3, Doncaster 0: Rovers boss says they couldn't handle Uche Ikpeazu

Uche Ikpeazu in action for Port Vale against Doncaster
By Mike Baggaley
HONEST Doncaster manager Paul Dickov said his side couldn't handle their former striker Uche Ikpeazu in their 3-0 defeat at Port Vale.
Sam Foley missed an 11th-minute penalty for Vale but the home side still claimed a comfortable win thanks to Foley's 35th-minute header, Ikpeazu's 46th-minute strike and Byron Moore's backheel a minute from time.
Ikpeazu was on loan at Dickov's Doncaster from Watford last season but cut short his stay because he wasn't playing enough.
But Dickov praised his former player's performance and was complimentary about Rob Page's Valiants.
He said: "We were poor and sluggish from start to finish. We have to give Vale a lot of credit because they caused us problems all afternoon, but our performance was just not good enough.
"We defended and played as individuals. If you don't do the basics right you give yourself no chance and that is what happened today.
"When you lose the ball, you have to go and win it back. We just didn't do that and Vale kept coming at us.
"Our second-half performance was an improvement, but to concede a second goal so soon after half-time was criminal. It gave us no chance really.
"Uche caused trouble all afternoon. We couldn't handle him at all.
"It's a bad day and we have to recover from this and prepare for the next game. There are lessons to learn and there is some hard work to do on the training ground."
