Icon4s:the fact that they had 21 shots and couldn't get one in is testament that they may not be as good as they looked at U17.... Anyway, the last African nation, SA, plays today. if those peeps don't qualify top of that shiiit group they got, then they'll be the true failures |

safarigirl:SA, I dnt believe those guys have what it takes. Forget dat dey were 2nd at CAF U17 we know from which side of Africa where d bunch of talents come from. The only thing dey have is good organisation and there is a limit to where that can get u.Talent and individual abilities of the players takes a team to d next level. West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana) have won this Cup a total of 6 times out of the 15 editions. Also countries like Guinea, Ivory Coast & Burkina Faso have played in the Semis at one time or the other. If any team(s) are to perform well in this tourney it will most likely come from Nigeria, Mali or Guinea. Infact Nigeria are tournament favourites. |

enomakos:Well, I dnt know how well u follow youth football but I hope u are nt comparing how dey played with d way the likes of Arsenal, Manu, Mancity etc play. We know they may nt b as smashing as d last set but how can u say even though they won 2-0 in their first game they will still crash out at the grp stage. U think Chile and Croatia are being represented by their senior national team? A person like u would have also written off d last eaglets within d 1st 20mins of that grp game against Sweden after they went 2 goals down. I can confidently tell u dat this Eaglets team is good enough to challenge for the title. Those dat know me in this sports section know dat I am mostly conservative when it comes to my expectations from our national teams bt there are certain age grade levels that we mostly get it right and this is one of them. We have played in 7finals out of our 10 participations. No other country has dat 70% record. NB: I never saw the 2015 Super Flying Eagles that won d CAF U20 as favourites bt I can tell u dat this our Golden Eaglets dat finished 4th in CAF U17 are "among" the favourites. cc: safarigirl, TheSuperNerd, TheGoodjoe, joseph1013, terzurum5 |

Hmmmm......... I don't know what this is or where that "conservatism" ran off to....... But I think I like this........ *smiles* In an earlier post on the last or last 2 pages, I stated that the South Koreans and The Nigerians are teams to watch out for as they can go far.... Why? Because of the "way" both teams are set up and operate. They may not necessarily be "spectacular" but they got that keen "tactical discipline" which can make them hard to beat plus they got a "few real-deal talents"..... Just a few. But when in killer mode, added to the team's overall tactical discipline traits..... Then both teams can wreck havoc. What some people don't know is that Nigeria beat an american team rated as probably the "most talented bunch ever assembled at u-17 level" and in HAJI WRIGHT, they have a player to watch out for...(Even Fifa.com picked on this). In Christian Pulisic of Dortmund, they have a classy midfield player who was outclassed by the genius of Nwakali and the work rate of his midfield lieutenants (David Enogela and Agor Chukwudi). Several of the Americans star for MLS clubs while several(in fact all) of ours star for soccer academies in Nigeria with only a few such as Bamgboye who stars for Foreign academies like Aspire. I know this team is nothing like the classes of 1985, 1987, 1989 (this class left the tournament in the quarter finals with a clean sheet, losing to eventual champs, Saudi Arabia), 2001, 2003(yes 2003, though they crashed out but they had more talents but lacked that "team/tactical discipline" , 2009, etc....Not even to mention the classes of 1993 and 2013 (in my books, the finest bunch or classes of talents to have graced the fifa u-17 world cup). BUT THEY HAVE "JUST ENOUGH" TO GO ON AND KEEP SPRINGING SURPRISES. This is a team that drew The Koreans(complete with Lee Seung Woo) 1-1 on their ground at the suwon tournament. Beat Brazil 2-1. Narrowly lost out late 2-3 to Croatia. Beat the Argentines 2-0 on their home stuff and humbled argentine clubside, As Racine's u-20 side 3-1. If they can't draw on "THE MAGIC" that got them those results then they won't last in this tournament BUT if they can do so constantly as seen in their 2nd half display against the Americans, then Lady and Gentlemen...... FASTEN UR SEATBELTS, COZ THIS MAY JUST TURN OUT TO BE "A LONG BUT INTERESTING AND ADVENTUROUS RIDE" TO THE FINAL(or at least the semis) FOR THIS "Unique Class" **smiles** Icon4s: |

safarigirl:It is the other way around. if a side can create chances, a poor finisher can score. If a side can not create chances, a good striker can not perform. Football is more about team work. The chances created by the Malian side shows they are a good team with a poor finisher. If they have another striker on the bench who can perform better, they will do better. |

Icon4s:The U17 I saw when we played USA, is a team that really needs to improve on so many areas to go far in this competion. The Wingers were just lacking the bite to do the needful with the ball, the strikers lacked initiative in the final third. It will be highly hazardous for us to just rely on Osihmen (hope I got the spelling correct this time around) and Nwakali to always do the magic. You see, any good opposition can spot them and what if he brings them under control? Am Sorry Sir, can't bet with the team. But I still wish them the best. |

AF Nigeria Nigeria U17 Eaglets seek second round spot against hosts https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/10/Samm_19_October_1.jpg Eaglets goal scorer Osimhen (right) against USA FIFA U17 World Cup champions Nigeria will battle host country Chile in a second group match as they look to book a place in the second round of the competition. The game will kick off 12 midnight of October 20 Nigerian time. The coach Emmanuel Amuneke-led team opened their campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 win over USA, while hosts Chile were held to a 1-1 draw by Croatia. Amuneke said their winning start will further boost their confidence. “It was important we won the first game since it would boost our confidence going into the next game against hosts Chile, so we are happy but will continue to work harder,” he said. Nigeria have won the trophy four times and are now seeking a fifth title, while Chile are gunning for their first-ever title as their best performance at the competition was winning bronze at Japan 1993, when they beat Poland 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Nigeria are participating in the competition for the 11th time, but this is Chile's third appearance, having played at tournament in 1993 and 1997. Both countries have not met at this level previously. Former Golden Eaglets star Olanrewaju Kayode said the players should keep working hard game by game and not get carried away with the win over USA. "They are good side. The win against USA is a good way to start the tournament. They should keep working hard ahead of Chile game,” the Austria Wien striker said. “They should forget about the win over the USA and look ahead to the next game. I am sure they will reach the stage they wanted." africanfootball.com/news/577534/Eaglets-seek-second-round-spot-against-hosts |

Chile Star Out Of Golden Eaglets Clash https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/chile.jpg Chile's Fabian Manilla has been ruled out of Tuesday's Group A clash against the Golden Eaglets at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup. Manilla suffered a severe ankle injury just after seven minutes in their opening group game with Croatia which ended 1-1 at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago on Saturday. And acccording to a report on the Chilean Football Federation website, the Catholic Cross University defender will play no part in the team's group games but will undergo further tests on his ankle. "What is unclear from Monilla injury is that we don't know how long he'll be out. He has to undergo more tests so we can know what other steps to take," Chile's U-17 coach Miguel Ponce was quoted. "It's unfortunate that he won't play but he'll be with us ." Chile are currently tied with Croatia on one point and must beat Nigeria on Tuesday to brighten their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition. Chile 2015: Costa Rica Spoil South Africa Party South Africa got their campaign to a shaky start on Monday night as Costa Rica completed an opening victory in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, thanks to a fine performance by Andy Reyes. The No9 scored a penalty after he had set up Kevin Masis’s opener in a 2-0 win. Khanyisa Mayo’s late header was not enough for the African side, who rallied in the second half before Reyes’s sucker punch penalty. The opener came just seven minutes in, with some good interchange of play down the Costa Rican right. Roberto Cordoba played an incisive pass that found Reyes inside the penalty area. He delivered a precise cross to the back post, which found the sliding Kevin Masis with a left-footed finish. After a difficult opening period for the African side, coach Molefi Ntseki must have given the Amajimbos something of a pep talk, as his young charges came out with renewed determination. Two big chances fell the way of Khanyisa Mayo, with the South Africa forward first squandering a close-range effort after a whipped delivery into the area, and then heading over from short range from a corner. Ntseki’s team were made to rue those missed opportunities, as the Ticos doubled their advantage. Katlego Mohamme was adjudged to have handballed a Roberto Cordoba shot and Reyes slamsed the spot kick home, to the goalkeeper’s right, despite Mondli Mpoto guessing the right way. In the closing stages of the game, Reeve Frosler’s cross from the left flank found the previously profligate Mayo. His header looped over the stranded goalkeeper Barrientos and into the net. Fifa.com reports that South Africa will gather themselves for their next clash against Korea DPR on Thursday, while Costa Rica face Russia in the day’s other Group E clash. Kanu: Eaglets Need Self-Belief, Focus To Defeat Chile https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/kanu-nwankwo.jpg By Sab Osuji: Nwankwo Kanu says the Golden Eaglets need to have self belief and remain focused in order to grind out a precious win against Chileon Tuesdayand progress to the knockout stages of the ongoing 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. The former Super Eagles captain who also won the U-17 World Cup in Japan in 1993, spoke to Completesportsnigeri a.com on Monday from England, where he is currently holidaying with his family. “The match against host country, Chile, will be tough. But I believe the Eaglets should remain focused and have self belief to win,” said Nwankwo Kanu, who is called Papilo by his admirers. “They played well in the opening match which they won 2-0 against USA. They should build on that performance and spirit despite playing the host country who desperately need a win to remain in contention. “I was impressed with the team’s performance in the first game. I’m also comfortable with the coaching credentials of Emmanuel Amuneke. “So, all things being equal, victory is important for the team against Chile so that coach Amuneke can get the luxury of giving playing opportunity to some of the players in the last Group A match, while reserving key ones for the round of 16 games”, Papilo emphasized. Nigeria: Eaglets Battle Ready for Chile Still basking in the euphoria of the first group match win against USA on Saturday, the Golden Eaglets may be the first team to reach the knockout stage as they attempt to pick another vital win this time against host Chile in the early hours of tomorrow. The match which comes up at the Estadio Sausalito will see the Nigerian team face a wounded Chilean side that settled for a 1-1 score line in their first match against Croatia and a win against the defending champion, will put them back on course to reach the next stage of the competition. Earlier before the match Croatia will take on USA this evening and the result of the match will no doubt play a vital role the other group match in which Nigerian side will be facing an entire partisan home crowd. Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets Head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has described the win over the United States of America as a morale booster for the players in the quest to successfully defend the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Chukwudi Agor and Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria a winning start courtesy of two second half goals against the Americans. "The victory today against the USA was important for us and I want to congratulate the boys for making Nigerians happy," Amuneke told the nff.com. He continued: "They (players) were tentative in the first 20 minutes and this was expected because it was the first time they were playing at a big stage such as the World Cup but it was important we won the first game since it would boost our confidence going into the next game against host Chile; so we are happy but will continue to work harder. "Today's victory against the USA is for Nigerians especially for many who stayed up late to watch the match," stated the former African Footballer of the Year who refrained from praising the goal scorers against USA."It is the job of all the players to do their respective jobs in the interest of the team. We want to play and win as a team and collectively, we want to work in order to achieve our overall objective at this tournament." Meanwhile, midfielder Chukwudi Agor has described his goal and indeed the opening goal in Group A at Chile 2015 against the USA, as very important for his budding career. It was Agor's second goal for the national U-17 side after he grabbed the winner in the 2-1 win over Brazil at the Suwon U-17 Tournament in September. "I'm happy that I scored today," said Agor, which means 'gift from God' in Ibo dialectic."I'm dedicating the goal to my sister, Oluchi." The Golden Eaglets hit the road yesterday for Vina del Mer where they will play host Chile at the 24,000 Capacity Estadio Sausalito tomorrow. Chile 2015: Ugbade warns Eaglets By Kazeem Busari https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Golden-Eaglets.jpg Golden Eaglets Former Golden Eaglets assistant coach Nduka Ugbade has warned the team to maintain concentration throughout their game against hosts Chile in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup at the Estadio Sausalito Vina Del Mar on Tuesday. The match kicks off at 12am Wednesday Nigerian time. Nigeria top Group A following their 2-0 win over USA on Saturday, while Chile and Croatia played out a 1-1 in the second match in the group. Ugbade, who has won the tournament as a player and as a coach, told our correspondent on the telephone on Monday that the Eaglets would be under pressure to retain the title. “I believe the Golden Eaglets are capable of defending the title,” Ugbade said. “Being four-time champions will put them under pressure to succeed. I wish the team and the coaching staff the best of luck as they make efforts to achieve another record. “Beating USA has given the team a good start to the tournament. A win against Chile will make the third game a mere formality. If they draw with Chile, then they must beat Croatia in their last game. “They’ve won the first match, which is the most important at this stage, so they must endeavour to win another game to guarantee their passage to the next round. “There is a possibility that Nigeria will beat Chile. Chile drew 1-1 with Croatia, so it is possible that we get a result from our clash with the host team. The Eaglets need to be calm and focused during the game.” The former Super Eagles defender added, “This is a junior competition and you never can say what will happen in any game. Every minute of the match is unpredictable.” Nigeria have only won the tournament in Asian countries – China, Japan, Korea Republic and the United Arab Emirates. Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations winner Ugbade said, “I don’t believe the Eaglets have any problem winning the tournament outside Asia. Winning or losing is just part of the game. When we played in the Asian countries, the tournaments were held at periods when the weather was favourable to the team (Eaglets). “In South America, there is the problem of high altitude and cold weather. We had a similar problem in New Zealand with the Flying Eagles at the Under-20 World Cup. We were beating everybody until the weather took its toll on us when we played against Germany. We still managed to perform.” www.punchng.com/sports/chile-2015-ugbade-warns-eaglets/ |
