Supreme Court Dismisses Wike’s Suit Against Tribunal by midolian(m): 10:49am On Oct 27, 2015

The supreme court has dismissed the suit of Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, who challenged the jurisdiction of the Rivers governorship election petition tribunal to hear a petition by Dakuku Peterside of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike had argued that the tribunal sitting in Abuja had no jurisdiction over matters that transpired in the state.

His contention is that the tribunal should have sat in Rivers state and not in Abuja.

The tribunal was moved to Abuja over for security concerns, as those of Akwa I‎bom, Yobe, Adamawa and Borno.

The appeal court had earlier ruled that the tribunal could sit in Abuja to handle Rivers election petitions.

The Rivers tribunal had last Saturday sacked Wike as governor of the state, and ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) hold a fresh election within 90 days.

Everyone claims wike is going to win a re-run forgetting that Nigerian politics is very fickle,people change camps overnight. You cant destroy the law and go Scot free under baba. If not for lunacy and thirst for brigandage why rig an election you were supposed to win?. May the will of the citizens of Rivers state prevail at the end of the rerun. grin

...and that's how the cookie crumbles.

I would have been surprised if the Supreme Court had held otherwise, and that's because the ground for the appeal didn't hold water. Territorial jurisdiction has never been fundamental to any suit. Seems they were just grasping at straws with that one.

May the best man for Nigeria and its states always win.

No surprises here.
Both parties can now start preparing for the rerun.
The people of rivers now have another opportunity to speak for whoever they want over them. I hope they will be sensible enough to come out and vote.

Rivers and Akwa Ibom are the biggest receivers of the national cake and I'm pretty sure APC is not ready to have such states as PDP states.

PDP brought this upon themselves in the first place by rigging in these states, now APC is hitting them hard!!!
