Akpoborie Questions Obafemi Martins’ Super Eagles Recall

Former Nigeria international Jonathan Akpoborie has questioned the recall of Obafemi Martins into the Super Eagles.

Martins, who has been in fine scoring form for Seattle Sounders, made a return to the Eagles after a two-year absence when he replaced Mikel Obi in the team’s 0-0 draw against Swaziland in a World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Reacting to the draw, Akpoborie labelled Nigerian coaches as being sentimental as regards players’ invitation.

“I thought they brought back Martins to score goals for Nigeria?

No Nigerian coach is above sentiments,” Akpoborie wrote on his Twitter handle.

The Eagles will host Swaziland in the reverse fixture on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

A win for the Eagles will see them progress into the group stage of the qualifiers.

Akpoborie with his normal blame game sha! Just loved Martins movement on the ball. He looked smart and distributed the ball well, had a short that was blocked. It was just not our day.

How Super Eagles Rated Versus Swaziland

Comple tesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the Super Eagles individually after their disappointing 0-0 World Cup qualifier draw against Swaziland…

CARL IKEME 7/10
Proved a worthy choice in goal for the Super Eagles once again. The England-based goalkeeper was rarely tested in the first half, but rose to the occasion to deny the hosts from scoring in the 61st minute.

SHEHU ABDULLAHI 5/10
The bereaved defender struggled to make an impact in the game. Coach Sunday Oliseh will need to look for a better player to man the right-back position.

EFE AMBROSE 6/10
The Celtic of Scotland player gave a solid performance in the first half, but fizzled out in the second stanza as the Sihlangu poured forward in search of a decisive goal.

GODFREY OBOABONA 5/10
Like his central defensive partner, Godfrey Oboabona struggled to cope with the pace of the hosts in the second half. The Turkey-based defender who was booked in the 44th minute for a reckless challenge, will need to do more in future to keep his place in the team.

ELDERSON ECHIEJILE 7/10
He was no doubt the Super Eagles best defender on the night. Echiejile performed his defensive duties well and supported the attack at will.

OGENYI ONAZI 6/10
The Lazio of Italy man was denied a goal in the 58th minute when his well struck free kick hit the post. He put up an above average performance in the game.

MIKEL OBI 6/10
Not one of his best performances in the green and white shirt of Nigeria. He struggled to dominate the midfield and his final ball was not top notch on a number of occasions. He was replaced by Obafemi Martins in 71st minute.

SYLVESTER IGBOUN 3/10
Put up a disapointing display and was duly replaced at half-time by Rabiu Ibrahim.

AHMED MUSA 4/10
The Super Eagles skipper was largely anonymous for the better part of the game. Another disappointing display by the CSKA Moscow winger.

MOSES SIMON 5/10
Toiled so hard all evening to make an impression, but with little success. He was surprisingly left on the pitch for the entire duration of the game.

ODION IGHALO 5/10
Ighalo was marked out of the game by the Swaziland defenders who never really allowed him to make any impact on the night.

SUBSTITUTES
RABIU IBRAHIM 2/10
The petite midfielder came in for Igboun after the break, but was hauled off in the 65th minute as he put up a below par showing.

KELECHI IHEANACHO 3/10
Came in for Rabiu Ibrahim in the 65th minute, but did little to change the game in favour of the Super Eagles.

OBAFEMI MARTINS 3/10
Not a dream return to international football by Martins as he was not near his best after replacing Mikel 19 minutes before the end of the game.

Green: Oliseh Needs Support, Eagles Must Win In Port Harcourt

By Bamidele‎ Boluwaji:
Nigeria Football Federation’s board member, Chris Green believes that the Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh is yet to have dream team, saying the former senior national team captain is still building following the 0-0 away draw played with Swaziland in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier decided on Friday in Mbanbane.

Green who spoke to Comple tesportsnigeria.com from the United States of America, said the result would help Oliseh to know the areas that need more attention in the team while urging the players to go to Port
Harcourt and win the return leg.

“Even though I didn’t see the game, I guess it was drab. We are building. A lot of damage was done to this team before Oliseh took over. We must pray for a brilliant result in Port Harcourt so that if for nothing, it will bolster the confidence of the team ” the Rivers State FA boss said.

Green, while expressing his reservation about certain players invited to the team said Oliseh needs support from all angle to excel in the assignment given to him.

“I have my reservation on the invitation of certain players, but it’s the coach’s call and we must support him if we must succeed. I like Oliseh, I’ve seen his program and it’s very good for our team.‎”

The legal practitioner however urged Nigerians to be patient despite the result, noting that the former Juventus player has quality programme for Nigerian football.

“We actually must be patient with Oliseh, to try out certain players to see if they will come good and get some understanding. Let’s encourage good working relationship between Oliseh and Amodu, they can take us back to the zenith.
“Believe me, Oliseh is very knowledgeable,” Green concluded.

‎Meanwhile, the return leg match will hold on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

Fashanu, Kaita Optimistic Eagles Will Beat Swaziland In Port Harcourt

By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Nigeria’s Super Eagles laboured to a scoreless draw against Swaziland in a second round 2018 World Cup qualifier on Friday evening, but the duo of John Fashanu and Sani Kaita are hopeful the Eagles will defeat their opponents in the second leg next week.

Speaking with Comple tesportsnigeria.com after the game, John Fashanu said:
“The draw was not the result we all wanted, but we should still be thankful that the Swaziland team did not pull an upset. I believe the Eagles will win in Nigeria and ultimately make the group stages of the World Cup qualifiers,” the former Wimbledon of England star opines.

On his part, former Eagles midfielder Sani Kaita points at what will be the downfall of the Swaziland national side whose fans erupted with joy at the blast of the referee’s final whistle.

“Over-confidence will be their (Swaziland) undoing. They have held Nigeria to a draw at their backyard and that could get into their heads,” the former Kano Pillars and FC Ifeanyi Ubah midfielder who was in Nigeria’s squad to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

“But whatever the Swaziland team think of their chances, our team must score early in Port Harcourt to stamp their authority in the return leg and put fear into their opponents,” Kaita concluded.

The Nigerian delegation will return to the country in ernest in preparation for the return leg.

The game on Friday saw the debut of Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho whose introduction and that of returning Obafemi Martins brought some stability in the Eagles’ game.

Eagles Draw With Swaziland Shocks Chukwu

By Sab Osuji:
Former Nigeria captain and coach, Christian Chukwu has expressed surprise that the Super Eagles could not break down Swaziland in Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Somhlolo, C‎omple tesportsnigeria.com reports.

Chukwu who once handled Harambee Stars of Kenya and SAFA FC of Lebanon said the scoreless draw the senior national team recorded in the game was least in his calculation, but remained optimistic the Super Eagles will turn things around in Tuesday’s return leg match in Port Harcourt.

“I can’t believe it (that the match ended in a draw),” Chukwu exclaimed when ‎Comple tesportsnigeria.com called him up after the game.

”I agree there are no more minors in football these days, but it surprises me that Swaziland could hold us to a draw.

“Even though I did not watch the game, but I was expecting a win for the Super Eagles so that we can come back to Port Harcourt and consolidate.
“I never thought of a draw at all.
It was never in my mind we were going to draw the game.

“All the same, that has demonstrated clearly what football is; unpredictable,” the former Enugu Rangers captain and coach stressed.

Chukwu however expressed hope that the Super Eagles can still turn the table against the Southern African side.

“It’s like the first half of the game has just been decided. Let us wait and see what happens in the second half which is the return leg match in Port Harcourt next week.

“I believe the Eagles will win and get their World Cup qualification well on track,” Chukwu who is called ‘Chairman’ by his admirers said.

Esin: Eagles Were Disappointing Against Swaziland

By James Agberebi :
Former Nigeria international, Etim Esin, has expressed his disappointment over the Super Eagles 0-0 draw with Swaziland in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
In a chat with Comple tesportsnigeria.com, Esin berated the senior players in the team for their below par performance.

“I was very disappointed with the overall performance, the big boys didn’t come to the party despite all the names we paraded.

“For Swaziland, the draw is like a win for them, judging by the way they were jubilating after the final whistle.

“We are a super power in African football and we are expected to go to places like Swaziland and stamp our authority,” Esin lamented to Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

Esin charged the Eagles to secure a convincing win in the return leg on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
“The only way to calm Nigerians down is to come home and beat them (Swaziland). Not just beating them, they must beat them convincingly,” Esin said.

Is there anyone who doubts Coach Oliseh is knowledgeable of the game? Why is this Chris Green talking anyhow?

We are saying Coach Oliseh is going to learn on the job because a coaching license is not the only requirement to succeed. There are other Nigerians with Coaching licenses from UEFA. Does that mean they are all ready for the Super Eagles?

Look at Coach Amunike learning from Coach Manu Garba despite having the license.

As far as I am concerned, Coach Oliseh is learning on the job. We have to support Oliseh because it is not an easy task.

Please do not say a lot of damage was done to the team because it is the NFF that continued destroying the team. Look at How you guys sacked Coach Sylvanus Okpala.

You stopped Coach Keshi from using Home based players to hinder his success. Which FA stops their coach from picking talents from the local league except guys like you.

If we should support Coach Oliseh because of the damage to the team before his arrival. Why did you guys not stick with Coach Keshi despite him being successful in many areas despite the harm done to the Super Eagles before Keshi took the job.

Wicked NFF.

Super Baller. Etim Esin. I wish you were in this generation so that I could watch enough games of you play.

I agree with your point. We are accepting mediocrity by accepting football has changed and there are no big teams in Africa.

The Coaching crew in Nigeria should wake up and demand more from their players.

I wish completesports can call Coach Monday Sinclair to get his opinion. That man can point out tactical and positional mistakes that can help the coach constructively.

I think the NFF should invite Coach Monday Sinclair to have a coaching Seminar with our current Super Eagles coaching crew.

He should also watch their training sessions with the National team and give them inputs to make the team play better.

Coach Monday Sinclair is a Port Harcourt man. He is not far from the team.

The draw will take place at the Serena Hotel, Kigali on Sunday.

Super Eagles Back Home After Swaziland Draw

The Super Eagles returned to Nigeria on Saturday after Friday’s 0-0 draw in Swaziland.

The draw means that the Eagles are condemned to win to ensure qualification to the final group phase of qualifiers in the 2018 World Cup qualifying series.

The Eagles, who travelled on an Arik Air Boeing 737-800, flew straight to Port Harcourt, the venue of Tuesday’s return leg and must-win clash against the Swazis.

The arrival of the Eagles was confirmed via the official twitter handle of the team at around 8am Saturday morning.

“We have arrived safely in Port Harcourt. We thank God for journey mercies. Preparations begin in earnest for Tuesday’s 2nd leg vs Swaziland,” the tweet read.

Musa: Eagles’ll Qualify, Somhlolo Stadium Was Poor

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has attributed the team's unimpressive goaless result against Swaziland on Friday night to the poor nature of the pitch and floodlights of the Somhlolo National Stadium.

Musa admitted that the Super Eagles failed to get the the expected away result against Swaziland on Friday, and noted that he and teammates' showings were hindered by both a poor pitch and a weak floodlights which didn't lit the pitch well.

“I can’t lie and say we got what we had expected but football is about challenges and that’s exactly what Swaziland gave us. I think they played very well and it as 50/50 but maybe we also didn’t play to our best due to the small pitch and the lights are also dark,” Musa told Times of Swaziland after the match."

Musa believes that the Super Eagles will get the better of the Sihlunga on Tuesday at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt, with much better pitch conditions.

“They were home and did brilliantly but Tuesday it won’t be 50/50. We’re going to qualify as our aim is to reach the World Cup and we’ll be in front of our own crowd, then so we’ll beat them and go through,” Musa said.

Swaziland Coach. Captain ‎Confident Ahead Of Second Leg Clash

‎Sihlangu of Swaziland head coach, Harries 'Madze' Bulunga, and captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze are confident ‎ahead of their Tuesday's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier second ‎leg match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Port Harcourt.

Sihlangu's confidence buoyed after they fought gallantly in the first leg to hold a technically superior Super Eagles to a goalless draw at the Somhlolo National Stadium.on Friday night.

While reviewing the team's performance at home against Nigeria, Bulunga hailed his team's performance despite recording an injury setback in the match. He expressed firm optimism that Sihlangu will come better in the second leg on Tuesday.

“We played well but didn’t have good combination in the second half especially following Felix Badenrhorst’s injury, which affected us as he combined well with Sabelo ‘ ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa.

This killed the momentum as Sikhali could not click well with Sandile Hlatshwayo,” Swazi Observer quoted Bulunga as saying after Friday'smatch.

And Bulunga previewed the return leg clash in Port Harcourt: “I am crossing my fingers that Felix and Mxolisi Lukhele recover in time for the return match. I believe we can do well in Nigeria considering our good away record. We are not going there as tourists but we are going to fight,” he said.

At Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Tuesday, Sihlangu Captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze will expect the team to uncork the same formula that made life difficult for the Super Eagles in Somhlolo.

“We were up against professionals who are technically smarter than us despite that we were playing at home. The plan was not to go overboard but to contain them and get them on a counter. We executed the game plan well hence the good result," Tsabedze said of Sihlangu’s strategy.

For Sihlangu midfelder Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, it's going to be fight to the finish in Port Harcour.

“We were nervous but pulled ourselves together and gave our best. We played very well today as a team and managed to hold them to a draw which is not a bad result. It is not going to be easy but we are hoping to get a good result in Nigeria,” Ndlovu said.‎

These matches are tough on these players, all of our team just flew in while these guys have been together for how knows long. 0-0 is not acceptable in my book but it is a good result for them. Algeria almost got embarrassed today and I'm guessing it was for the same reason. We always play better in our second games so predict we blow them out in PH.

Chad 1-0 Egypt

Angola 1-3 South Africa

Niger Republic 0-3 Cameroun

Liberia 0-1 CIV (Ivory Coast)

Ethiopia 3-4 Congo

Comoros 0-0 Ghana

Libya 1-0 Rwanda

Mauritania 1-2 Tunisia

Kenya 1-0 Cape Verde

Benin Rep. 2-1 Burkina faso

Madagascar 2-2 Senegal

Togo 0-1 Uganda

Morocco 2-0 Equatorial Guinea

Burundi 2-3 Congo DR

Namibia 0-1 Guinea

Sudan 0-1 Zambia

Mozambique 1-0 Gabon (will play their 2nd leg today by 18:00)

And currently, @HT, it's Botswana 2-0 Mali (at the time of typing this)

Hmmmm......... *smiles*

NOTE: This is still no excuse for yesterday's result. On any good day, we should be beating teams like Swaziland home, away and even in "outer space".

But it's ok, we'll get it right in PHC. But we should never use others' results as a yardstick or a reason to settle for "mediocre results". We can always get better because whether we like it or not we remain "GIANTS".

It's just like saying, ""I'M OK WITH 55/100 because my academic rival scored 50/100. Yeah, Rita scored 60 because she was lucky...... But who cares?? John didn't and I'm satisfied.......""

That's just crazy and "wrong mindset"........ We should always expect "more" from ourselves and stop looking at others.

eh eh Supernerd which one is all this Rita ora and john analysis now na wa ooo.

The tides are turning in African football. Countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria and Mali that are considered "the mighty ones" are struggling to qualify with new beginners. I think it is over confidence that is killing them. "swaziland na waka pass" mentality.

I won't be surprised if our boys did not even train before the match and we were expecting 5-0 margin.

Congo and Cameroon are the only countries living up to expectation.

Of course I don't expect other nations to just "roll over".......... That'll be "poor attitude" on their part too.

But you do get my "points" right? **smiles**

Anyway, another shocker have been confirmed again:

Botswana 2-1 Mali

Gabon is currently leading 1-0 against Mozambique in their 2nd leg tie. (@ 58 mins)

Whoever wins become the first to qualify for the 20 teams of 5 groups third and final round.

We should never look at others because we can always get better. (The Rita and John stuff is just an example....... But it's reality in academic settings world wide). **smiles**

Eagles disappointing in Swaziland says Akwuegbu

Eagles striker Obafemi Martins against Swaziland in Lobambo

Former Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu has described as “disappointing” a barren draw recorded by Nigeria in the first leg 2018 World Cup qualifier in Swaziland on Friday night.

However, FK Gratkon of Austria manager Akwuegbu has urged Nigerians to be patient with Sunday Oliseh’s new team.

Nigeria complete with their Europe-based stars including Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi and Watford striker Odion Ighalo were shut out by a team of players who all play their football locally in Swaziland and are ranked 130thin the world.

"To be frank it was a disappointing result considering the calibre of players both countries paraded and their ratings as far as football is concerned,” said Akwuegbu, who featured at the 2002 World Cup.

"But we should be calm and take it easy with the team as we know the Eagles are undergoing a rebuilding process.

“They will get to the promised land and be the Eagles we all want.
“And I am sure they will finish them off in the return leg in Nigeria."

The return leg match will be played on Tuesday in Port Harcourt with the overall winners advancing to the league phase of the World Cup qualifying tournament in Africa.

Swaziland coach: It's 60-40 in return leg

Mikel against Swaziland Friday night in Lobambo

By Samm Audu
Swaziland coach Harries Bulunga has said it is now 60-40 in favour of Nigeria to qualify for the group phase of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after the Super Eagles drew 0-0 with his team in Lobambo Friday night.

More illustrious Nigeria could not break through the defence of minnows Swaziland for all 90 minutes even after they dominated possession as expected.

The hosts rallied back as the game wore on to eventually record a famous draw with a team ranked 71 spots above them in the FIFA ratings.

“We were a bit scared of Nigeria at the start of the game but as the game wore on, we grew in confidence and that explained why we pushed out late in the game,” said Bulunga.

“Nigeria’s best chances were mostly from set pieces.
“We will now be hoping for a scored draw in Nigeria on Tuesday to advance in the competition, but honestly Nigeria have a 60-40 chance of beating us to the next round.”

Ideye cherishes Eagles’ recall

As the Sunday Oliseh coached Nigeria Super Eagles start their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign in Swaziland this weekend, Olympiakos of Greece striker Brown Ideye has told supersport.comexclusively how missing out on the last World Cup in Brazil affected him. “For sometime I could not sleep. My wife helped me a lot by always telling me that greater things are in store for me in the future.”

Ideye was one of the regulars for the then coach Stephen Keshi team that won the AFCON in 2013. He also featured regularly through the World Cup qualifiers so it came as a surprise he was not named in the 23 man squad for Brazil. “I was still at Dynamo Kiev and I got a phone call by a friend who told me my name was not on the list he had seen – my friend was almost in tears as he spoke to me. I thought it was a joke. The most painful period was watching the tournament. I supported the team but I felt bad that I was not able to help my country out.”

Ideye’s last cap was in Calabar in November of 2013 as qualification was sealed for Brazil. He has not been called by the new coach . “I am a Nigerian and always will be available for Nigeria whenever I am called. There is a new coach who is building a new team. I believe that as long as I keep playing well and scoring and providing assists at Olympiakos I believe I will get a call.”

Ideye is the leading striker for Olympiakos, who sit joint top with Bayern Munich in their Champions League group that has Arsenal rock bottom. He is one of those strikers who is prepared to sacrifice for his team mates “maybe that is what I am paying the price for now” Ideye said.

“Honestly, I want to score but I will not attempt to score when I know I have a team mate in a better position”.

It is perhaps this attitude that made his then partnership with Emmanuel Emenike that took Nigeria to that AFCON title. His absence has been attributed to Emenike’s drought for the national team before his retirement. “People say this a lot that but it is probably a coincidence. Yes, I had a good relationship off the pitch with Emenike which helped us on it.”

Brown Ideye is extremely proud to flaunt his MON national honour as he does on his social media accounts. If Obafemi Martins can make a return to the Super Eagles while playing in the MLS then there surely must be hope for a striker playing in the UEFA Champions League as long as he keeps playing and scoring. Time will tell.

TheGoodJoe:

Wicked NFF.

Green was only being diplomatic and so had to raise the issue of Oliseh's brilliant 'knowledge of the game'.
It looks like he just realized that, he had let out some vital issues which should not have come out from him at that time of the day. He just used it to cover further damage that the Nigerian journalist would have done to his 'running mouth'. News headline such as 'Green Faults Oliseh's players selection' would have become the object of discussion

World Cup qualifier: Eagles begin training in Port Harcourt

Super Eagles training in Port Harcourt

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have begun training in earnest for the second leg second round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Swaziland.

The Eagles, who played a barren draw with Swaziland on Friday, returned to the country early Saturday. They flew straight to Port Harcourt, Rivers State where they will play the second leg tie against the Swazi on Tuesday at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium by 4:00 pm.

The Eagles on Saturday evening resumed training for the return leg with a light walk–out at the Amiesiamaka Stadium.

The Eagles’ Twitter account confirmed the training, and tweeted “Shaking off the fatigue from yesterday’s game and planning towards Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, the delegation of Sihlangu Somnikati of Swaziland will be staying at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Port Harcourt when they arrive the country for the second leg match.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, confirmed from the Chief Executive Officer of the National Football Association of Swaziland, Frederick Mngomezulu, that the Sihlangu delegation would depart from Swaziland on Saturday, and travel via ARIK Air from Johannesburg on Saturday night, to arrive in Lagos on Sunday morning.

The delegation will then fly to Port Harcourt Sunday morning aboard another ARIK Air flight from Lagos.

Nigeria-Swaziland Fall-out: Eagles’ Fighting Spirit Commendable – Akinwumi
BY TAOFEEK LAWAL

The leader of Nigeria’s delegation to Swaziland for the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier and Nigeria Football Federation 1st Vice President, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, has hailed the “fighting spirit and commitment” of the Super Eagles, despite the 0-0 draw with the Sihlangu Somnikati in Lobamba on Friday.

The Eagles dominated for long periods but failed to underscore their superiority in possession with a goal, and both sides will start afresh at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening.

“There is a tendency to dismiss the performance on the basis of the scoreline. However, I am happy with the commitment shown by the players and their continued push all through.

“It was a highly technical and tactical game. The Sihlangu were definitely at home on their own turf and they sought to make things difficult for the Super Eagles on the counter,” Akinwunmi stated.

The leader of delegation also expressed confidence the Eagles would get the goals in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

“With a little more luck, we could have won here in Lobamba. But the goals will certainly come in Port Harcourt.

“That fervour, dedication and elan that we have been looking to instil in the Super Eagles are back and I’m delighted.”

2018 WCQ: Swaziland Ready to Shock Eagles

Ahmed Musa

By Demola Ojo
Swaziland coach Harries Bulunga is satisfied with the output of his players against Nigeria on Friday in the first leg of a Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifier and is upbeat about the return leg.

The Sihlangu drew 0-0 against the Super Eagles at the Somholo National Stadium in Lobamba, a result which left him brimming with confidence going into the second leg.

“We played well but didn’t have good combination in the second half especially following Felix Badenrhorst’s injury, which affected us as he combined well with Sabelo Ndzinisa,”Bulunga told the Swaziland Observer.
“This killed the momentum as Sikhali could not click well with Sandile Hlatshwayo.”

Despite their injury worries, Bulunga is hopeful that his team can surprise Nigeria in the second leg in Port-Harcourt on November 18th. It’s unclear if Badenrhorst will be fit and there are concerns over Lukhele as Swaziland prepare to fly down to Nigeria.

“I am crossing my fingers that Felix and Mxolisi Lukhele recover in time for the return match. I believe we can do well in Nigeria considering our good away record. We are not going there as tourists but we are going to fight,” Bulunga added.

Eagles’ll be better in second on Tuesday-Kanu

Ex – Nigeria skipper Nwankwo Kanu has calmed the frayed nerves of supporters of the Super Eagles, stating that the Sunday Oliseh – led side will get the needed result against Swaziland in the second leg of their World Cup qualifier in Port Harcourt.

But the former Arsenal and Inter Milan star has inferred that the boys were far from impressive against the Southern Africans on Friday night and need to step up a gear on Tuesday.

“Swaziland 0-0 Nigeria. We go back and finish it up in Nigeria but we still need to work harder and want it more.Come on boys,” Nwankwo Kanu tweeted.

The Nigeria squad arrived the country from Swaziland on Saturday morning and has begun preparations for the second leg against Swaziland.

Maigari: Super Eagles Must Improve, Get More Quality Players

By Bamidele Boluwaji:
Former President of Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has told Comple tesportsnigeria.com that the Super Eagles must improve to be able to face the challenges of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following their goalless draw with Swazilandon Friday.

Maigari said football lovers have to be patient with the coach while he works out tactics and strategies that will make the team to improve in their subsequent games.

"They didn't do badly, the team is new and so also the coach needs some time to shape up the team. But they have to improve and gradually, I know they will," Maigari said.

The football administrator however believes that coach Sunday Oliseh needs to invite more quality players to the senior national team after the return leg match on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

"The coach should invite more quality players to ensure that we have more solid Super Eagles, bearing in mind time is not on our side.

"Let's wish and pray for him and the team. There is nothing prayer cannot do."
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles who won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa will host Swaziland on Tuesday and Maigari has charged the team to go for nothing short of total victory in the match.

"It is a must win match and they must approach it with a winning mentality otherwise it will be dangerous for Nigeria," he added.
