kogirodent:

okada riders were banned in abuja and lagos. is that also an apt case study? At tyms i just wish that the Muslims will have their own world to demselves to practise whatever dey want. Most other religions and irreligious beliefs are all compatible except Islam dat always stands out like a sore thumb.

Our world has changed so much over the last twenty years.
Islam and Muslims, though, were perceived as something foreign, having little to do with most people’s lives.

If for no other reason than to find out the truth about what Islam and Muslims are really like, people who are not Muslim should try to find out more.

If only to make sense of what they are daily seeing on their television screens, people need to sort out in their minds what is true and what is not. In other words, they need to know what Islam is really like.
A lot of unnecessary fear and misunderstanding would be dispelled if people could take the time to see what this Islam is really all about.
Muslims believe that Islam has existed since the beginning of time and that it is the natural religion of mankind.

They believe that Almighty God (or Allah as he is known in the Arabic language) has spoken to His Creation down through the centuries through prophets, whose names are familiar to us all. Their names are household words: Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus are just a few of them.

The last in this long line of prophets was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who didn’t invent or found Islam, but to whom was revealed the Quran over a period of twenty-three years. The Quran confirms all that had gone before that was true and it corrects all that had become distorted from the past over time.
Being fed so much on the TV and in the press about Islam, people deserve to know what this “Islam” really is.

They need to be able to distinguish for themselves between what is truly “Islamic” and what are the actions and words of people who don’t really speak for Muslims at all.

Without knowing a little about Islam, people might be forgiven, in watching news stories on the TV, for thinking it is the religion of monsters, whereas ordinary Muslims throughout the world share nothing with those who would harm and dominate others in the name of Islam.

Muslims are just ordinary folk, going out to work each day to put food on the table for their children, yet their lives have been touched by an extraordinary message.

The message of Islam was very simple: there was just One God in heaven, Who had created them and Who still cared for them. In turning to that One God (known in Arabic as “Allah”) they could find inner peace and a way to live that would make sense and bring them happiness.

This, too, is important for people to understand today. The way of living imposed upon people by Islam was not just an arbitrary set of rules imposed upon them by a remote God.

This God, Allah, was indeed remote and different from them, but He was also closer to them than they were to themselves. Since He had created them, He knew everything about them and He knew what was best for them.

In our modern world, there are few people who would buy a new mobile phone without at first having at least a cursory glance at the instructions provided by the mobile phone company. Without looking at the maker’s instructions they would risk breaking the phone.

It is the same way with Allah.

As the One Who made us, He knows how we work and what is best for us. Islam simply teaches that without listening to the Maker’s instructions we cannot live the full lives He intended us to live.

Some people might say that some of these instructions seem strange, maybe even difficult to accept. Muslims would respond that Allah surely knows better than we do what is best for us. He made us. So if He tells us that drinking alcohol is not good for us or that eating pork will harm us, then surely He knows better than we do what is for our own good.

There is so much of that original message of Islam that has become clouded over in our modern age and just doesn’t reach people’s ears. Modern-day detractors would have us believe that Islam is somehow hostile to women or treats them as less than men. Indeed, cultural practices in some countries would support that view.

Yet Islam does not hold that view. Islam, when it dawned upon the Arabian Peninsula all those years ago, came to give women unheard of rights they had not known before.

Why is it that Muslim women, even today, don’t change their name when they get married?

Why do they keep as their own the money given as a dowry?

It is because Islam protects them as individuals and gives them security for the future. It gives them the right to be provided for by their husbands and to work or not to work, as they choose.

In those early years, Islam abolished the pernicious practice of female infanticide. It put an end to men having the right to marry as many women as they wanted to. It gave women the right to own property and carry out business transactions. Many of these rights were only enjoyed by women in the West in the nineteenth century.

The list goes on and on. Only by learning something about Islam will people see that it has the potential to offer a different way of living, different to the way offered to us by the modern world.

In Islam, money is the not to ‘be-all and the end-all’ of everything. In fact, Muslims give away a portion of their unused wealth every year. Far from hoarding it and making interest on it, Islam tells them to give it away!

In praying five times a day, Muslims are not just following a ritualistic rota of prescribed prayers, They are pausing five times in their busy day to think about what life is really about and Who made it. In doing that they can then go about their lives with a sense of meaning and direction.

In other words, in Islam there is a reason behind everything that Muslims do. At the heart of everything they do, is the belief that has come from Almighty God (Allah) and that at the end of their lives it is to Him that they will return.

Life in this world is but a passing thing, to be enjoyed and to be lived well, but it is one lived always with an eye on the life of the world to come. In keeping that eye on the future, Muslims’ lives become rich, richer than any money can provide.

If people really want to get the most out of this life, enjoying its benefits and avoiding its dangers, they owe it to themselves to find out a little about what Islam has to offer. In doing so, they will find that it offers them the chance of really becoming the best they can be.

Hijab is completely different from purdah. What muslim women wears that scare children or people is purdah. You can see the face of a woman wearing hijab very well but not purdah- only the eyes. They are two different things. Our leaders need proper enlightenment. A woman in purdah is different from a woman in hijab. Purdah is full body veil revealing the eyes or sometimes covered with net cotton while hijab is to cover the head up to your shoulder revealing your full face.

Thank you. In addition to this, Boko Haram are wearing soldiers uniform to attack and kill people. In this case can we ban soldiers uniform? If soldiers uniforms can not be banned, we can not ban Hijab
it is called camouflage and it is for combatants and boko people see themselves as combatants that is why they wear it, and not because it is worn by the nigerian military, how many people do you see wearing camouflage on the streets. And another question that requires an answer is why does boko haram carry out atrocities with niqab?.

you're talking Abuja, im talking northeast, its clear you haven't understood in the first place. the suicide bombings in borno cannot continue to happen with young girls in hijab and you're talking about banning cars when boko haram of recent hardly use cars for operations over there. why are you twisting the matter? serious countries like the USA and France cannot let that happen.

are you even aware of the socio-economic impact cars have over hijab. if today you were to pick between banning the cars or the hijabs, which would you pick? Even the northerners would support the ban if the bombings continue with girls in hijab till next year.

I repeat if the suicide bombings continue in the northeast, the government would be left with no choice. drastic events call for drastic measures.

You deserve a presidential award for this.
Re: Soldiers Remove Veil From Muslim In Lagos‎ - The whistle by abbey621(m): 4:08pm On Jan 10, 2016
This is not news just some useless miscreants causing trouble. The FG cannot ban hijabs, the president is a faithful Muslim and knows the importance of the hijab for Muslim women. However the president can order the change in the length or size of hijabs. This will ensure Muslim women are able to exercise their rights while protecting the safety of the nation. A short hijab fulfills the same role as a long hijab when a Muslim woman is dressed properly so no need to stress!

Salam! This issue is very critical, I don't know what's wrong to those some stupid of our security guys, thus government ban Hijab in Nigeria, those of these securities always just to embarrass the Hijab sisters because of religion Prejudices "s'erako niyin ni", could you remember those of armed robber using police uniform for their unlawful duty, you forget that all the weapons that they are uses is from police, "oponu niyin" why government did not ban police uniform, if you continue to embarrass Hijab sisters, "ibinu Olorun l'enwa" I'm now using this medium to beg the sister who such incident happened to, to pardon that fullish security men. "anti darijiwon toripe won ko mowun ti won nse" I sincerely appeal to the federal government to mandate the Ministry of Information and other necessary agencies to release a circular that will guarantee female Muslims right to wear Hijab on the street, in the schools, during the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and everywhere, thanks.

I hope you know that wearing of the military unform or cammo dress by a civilian is banned already?A civilian wearing the military unform or cammo dress has committed an offense and when caught will be dealt with severely.. Honestly, you guys should reason before commenting.

My little understanding from reading is that it is a borrowed culture from other parts of the the world particularly the desert areas where "sand and dust storms" are prevalent as a way of protecting the face and body. I beleive that there are appropriate ways a Muslim lady can dress that can cover the body properly (ask Aisha buhari). We should not encourage extremism in the guise of religion.
What do you know about veil and islam There's no borrowed culture, islam is islam even in Rome...

I actually feel it should be banned... at least for a while

cars and hijabs are two diff. things entirely... we have bomb detectors and other security measures in place to tackle that (minimal damage expected)

buh d women with hijabs on the other hand move freely, and won't want to be harased or searched by the security operatives...
moreover the increase in female child suicide bombers using hijabs warrants it....
thank you for this enlightenment .... dat guy is known for comparing dogs and trouser ... Simply because they are both used by men ...

that thing you posted, the reason was that mohammed was a womanizer and he cannot control himself that was the reason he married a child just because he couldn't control his joy stick, he was looking for a way that will make him not to see women too much, so that he won't marry more wives. And it didn't say anything about dressing like a masquerade rather it said cover yourself(bring down over) and not mask yourself.

It is good that this is happening during the time of Buhari. One, Muslims will not say a Christian President is overriding their religious right. Two, those that said Buhari will islamize Nigeria if elected as President are still alive and see what his comment was on hijab and the consequent result.

Now Muslims are not violent o until when they take to the street for peaceful protest.

Ban the hijab
I call on everything human, thinkers and those with reasoning plus haters
What is your opinion?
Do you think it would solve our security issues?
Are there no male bombers?
Are there no other clothes that can conceal the bomb jacket?
If that's the case, should we be ordered to start walking naked?
Because even agbada can conceal bomb

I'm disappointed if that's the best strategy that they could come up with

Once again, let's give them numerous ways to solve the security crisis, it seems they are running out of ideas.

You right. It is Same way Islam as a whole and also Christianity were borrowed, Just Same way we abandoned our cultures our norms and our traditions for foreign ones. I doubt you have any right to give judgment.

There is something called liberty.

Although you can always argue that the state has the right to limit one's freedom, but it wasn't what you post was about.
