I just answered your question about glucose on another thread. Now, with all these symptoms, it's clear you have fever that needs to be worked up. All the symptoms, including the slight elevation of your fasting blood sugar might be related to your febrile condition. Fever could be caused by malaria, typhoid, infections of the lung, urinary tract, soft tissue, and even blood. There're other things that could cause fever. Your doctor needs to do culture and sensitivity of your blood, urine, and chest x-ray, and other tests.

The easiest thing is to prescribe a drug that can constrict or dilate your pupils, but that's not recommended without a clinical exam. I would suggest going back over and over untill you see the right person in that department of ophthalmology. Just tell them you still don't fell better---- many doctors would be obliged to investigate or even research your case.
Or try another hospital, if you can afford it.

Thanks sir for you advice, input and time. I will following it up. I'm really grateful. Once again, thank you!

Unless you're having symptoms, I wouldn't bother about the positive plasmodium falciparum indicated on your result. For onething, the technique of doing this test is very variable, subjective, and very prone to error; secondly, Nigeria is a malaria endemic region. It shouldn't be a surprise to any one that there is malaria parasite in the blood. I have adviced my family members in Nigeria to take routine and prophylactic malaria medications on a monthly basis, I would advice you to do same. It's better to treat the parasite before they complete their life cycle and give you symptoms. If you wait till you have fever to treat malaria, it's probably too late.

Hello doc,

VERY LONG POST BUT PLEASE TRY AND READ!

I need your assistance. I have been suffering from weak/soft erection for the past 4yrs. I noticed this the first time i tried to make love to a girl. I started masturbating when i was 16, then a met a girl at the age of 20 and now i'm 24. Before we made love, we have been doing pre-intimacy, during pre-intimacy, i discovered that i couldn't sustain my erection for long, sometimes it doesn't even get up, no matter how long we pre-intimacy. Because of this, i had hard time starting the real thing, because i know i wasn't up. One evening, after enough pre-intimacy, i knew she was high and needed me to go in without any excuse, so we started, I really found it difficult to go in, because my erection was soft, when i finally got in, less than a minute i came. This was shocking to both of us. She told me because it was the first time, that was why, but i knew it wasn't the first time and over excitement thing. After that day, i was never able to make love to her again, so after some time we ended.

Few months later, i met another girl, this time around, i couldn't even penetrate her, no matter how hard i tried. This was quite embarrassing. Because of this disappointment, i decided to look for a solution to the problem. Because of the numerous advertisement i had from traditional therapist who prophesied that they handle such problem without stress. I ran to the first one (popular, but i don't want to mention names) who gave me some drugs. After i took those drugs i noticed changes in my entire system, not particularly my reproductive organ, but the entire system. Before i took the drugs, i had this early morning headache, which was quite uncomfortable and make it difficult for me to get up from bed every morning. Also, i was having general body weakness and some signs which i cannot explain. All these were fixed after i took the drugs. Early morning erection, that i never saw for long, came back. I could easily got arouse by merely thinking about a girl. I felt i was normal again. Since i was having no girlfriend then, i masturbated few days after. I began to feel the soft erection again, early morning erection doesn't stay long anymore, until it disappeared, though other part of me was OK.

I went to the lady and told her that, everything went well expect for the soft-erection issue, she told me that i need to continue the supply until the problem stopped. I ordered for another, which had little or no effect on me. I had to stop because it was too expensive for me to afford.

After that, i just stop disturbing myself about it and focused on other things. 2 years back i met another girl.
Whenever we are together, though i have the urge for (sex), but the erection just come and go. So i knew the problem was still there, so i went to another traditional therapist. He gave me another set of drugs. After i took the drugs, i noticed something strange. My sperm became watering, it was not as thick as it was before. I also
noticed that, when i don't rush while masturbating, the sperm seems to be thicker. . Sorry, before i went to the second therapist, i went to see a doctor at a specialist, he only advised me and told me it was fear and all that, that there was nothing absolutely wrong with me masturbating. That wasn't enough for me, that was why i went to the second traditional therapist.

I went to the hospital for the second time, after a saw whitish substance came out from my penis while i was urinating. I explain everything to the doctor, he made me to take some test, after seeing the result, he told me that there was nothing wrong with me and told me to take some strong anti-biotic. After taking the anti-biotic, i experience some improvement in my health, but not with the soft/weak erection, though i still masturbate and watch porn.

Recently i discovered that while consuming a lot of carrot (because i like eating carrots ) my body was responding well. I start to experience early morning erection again, can easily get arouse and all that, though i have not tried it with a girl yet. Now carrot season is gone and since i still masturbate, the problem came back.

I have decided to STOP MASTURBATING and see how it turns out (this i have done for two weeks now).

Somebody online told me to check my testosterone, cholesterol, Cortisol and hormone. I have not thought about that yet.

Now, i would like know if this problem is due to my excessive masturbation ( 1 - 4 times a week) or something is wrong with my body system.

I really need your advice even your criticism, since i know that, what i have been doing is wrong. Please help a brother in need.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by naijaking1: 7:24pm On Jul 26, 2009
If you can successfully masturbate, then you have no problems with your physiology, however, your psychology may be the problem.
I wouldn't recommend any traditional preparations, because there seems to be nothing organically wrong with your system, and because I don't know what they contain.
Believe it or not, people need to learn how to have sex successfully. I would advice you to be calm, settle down, if the problem continues after you get married or have a permenet partner, then maybe you two could go see a sex therapist.

Hello doctor,
for as long as i can remember, I've always had this issue of very sensitive sense of smell. most times when i perceive any smell, it stains my tongue. this also enable me to be able to tell the taste of whatever i can smell. most times, this presents a problem to me as it can also give me bad breath!
most times i carry chewing gums and lemon sweets to keep my breath fresh all the time. and i can't visit dirty/unfriendly environments like any other person can easily do.

please Doctors in the house. . . does anyone know if this is a problem and what do i do about it.?

m9icezy:

There's nothing like watery sperm. However, there's seminal fluid which is made by the prostrate to lubricate and transport sperm in a friction-less and nourishing environment. What you call watery sperm is not sperm at all, but seminal fluid that normally occurs after s strong erection, and sometimes post-ejaculation, it has not yet mixed with the whitish sperm, so it's usually clear or watery. Sperm is white, because it's produced and stored in the testicles, transported very rapidly through the spermatic ducts to the epididymis, mixes with seminal fluids for increased volume, before coming out of the penis.
You could test for testesterone and other hormones if you like, but that will be a waste of your time and money. If they're not normal, you probably wouldn't be masturbating and enjoying it the way you do. Once again, my advice would be to take it easy, relax, or go to someone who knows about these things in details.

Sex education is not only for teenagers. If you're enaged or married, I would recommend a sex therapist. You just need some basic information about the genitals, sex, and how things work. I'm in NYC, and if you're in Nigeria, I wouldn't know any referals out there.

There is a stress reaction undergone by the red blood cells of people sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, and G-6PD disease. In this reaction, previously fragile cells undergoe osmotic crisis as a result of some strong reducing agents in the form of malaria medications and some type of antibiotics like sulfa.

If you have been screened negative for these conditions, then I would say you do have a simple allergic reaction to the medications in question. What to do? Avoid them as much as possible. Tell your doctors, pharmacist, everybody that you have allergic reaction to these medications. It's important, because these reactions become progressively more severe with each administration of the offending drug.

Hi Doctors,

I have an 8month old baby that developed a rash on his arms and legs. The Doctors all say its scabbies and prescribed Benzyl benzoate to rub on his body. This is so harsh even for an adult. I used it and it killed the rashes, however after about 2 weeks, i noticed new rashes. This means that there is still a source.

I have 2 guesses.
1. The new househelp i just got or (2). my parents dog ( can dat be a source).

I have read online bout the use of Dogonyaro, they say it chases mites out of the house.

Please help, i am tired of applying Benzyl Benzoate on my baby.

N/B: We have had all his clothes washed with hot water and izal

He bathes with Tetmosol soap now.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: To naijaking's post

I really appreciate your reply naijaking concerning my ailment.I really think its more of an infection than hereditary. The drug that was recommended was an ointment (i can't recall its name) which i was told to apply to the scalp regularly.I did this and completely emptied the tube.I won't say the regrowth was as a result of the ointment as the hair grew partially after about a year later. What baffles me the most is how Ringworm of the Scalp could affect the head and OTHER PARTS of the body too.I still have hair patches right now on my head but its not even and sometimes it falls off leaving nothing.Could there be any form of drug that could stimulate hair growth Can i get a 'referral' from you or any doctor in the house of a seasoned doctor (preferably a dermatologist) here in Lagos. Many thanks in advance

I'm happy that you report some improvement. Once again, if you have been diagnosed with tinea capitis, you need to take griseofulvin by month for about 6 months. Unfortunately, the cream doesn't effectively eliminate this species of tinea. Your hair will naturally regrow after the infection is eliminated.

Your child may have contact dermatitis, and it seems that the more you treat him, the more you expose him to the allergen. All the things highlighted above could give you recurrent dermatitis. I would start by eliminating toxic soaps, perfumes, creams, and even linens; then i would avoid cats/dogs. You could also try some 1% hydrocortisone cream once in a while.
I'm sure this measure will control the symptoms, but if it doesn't then the next level of inquiry would be dietry evaluation.

You will all be glad to know my daughter just qualified as a doctor and will be starting her first job here in Scotland. She is hoping paediatrics will be her speciality. They now have what they call foundation year programs. She starts off with 4months paediatric surgery. Maybe one day I might introduce her to nairaland. She thinks I spend too much time on it anyhow!!!

Doc Balogun,
please i need your advise on this issue. my husband was diagnosed with moderate growth of staph. aureus in his semen, but he has no growth at all in his urine. His count is 95million but with a poor motility of 40%. The sensitivity test shows that the bacterial is sensitive to ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, tarivid and moderately to augumentin. please which antibiotics do you advise is best for this situation, for i understand that clearing bacterial in the semen could be stubborn and will require about 3month therapy. we are afraid of resistance, so we want to get it right once. thanks doc God bless

Good to know that you're AA, so no fear of sickle cell disease or trait, however you could stil have some other types of hereditary blood conditions.
I can't answer the second part of your question not knowing what diet you used to stay in shape when you were 20-24.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by SCYLLA: 8:07am On Aug 04, 2009
Hello Doc,
I have had a problem for a while now, first it started with haematuria at about the last week of January, then I went to the hospital and did an ultrasound, the results showed that I had no abnormalities in any of the kidneys or organs so the doctor said he suspected schizo somiasis and gave me pills for it. But the blood still persisted, so I went to see a urologist and a myraid of tests were carried out, first I did a cystoscopy and an ultrasound again, there was no injuries in my bladder and the ultrasound results did not show any abonormality either. Then I did an intravenous urography and the results showed something that looked like a cyst but the doc said he was not sure and wanted a retrograde urethrography to confirm which I did too and the results came back to show that both kidneys were very fine. Now all these tests took a space of three weeks and by the end of the last test the haematuria stopped. Still not satisfied I went for a CT scan and the results came back with the same thing that all my organs were fine.
Now three months ago I started experiencing pain on the left lower side of my ribs and the pain persisted with no particular rhythm I could get my hands to, I went to another doctor and he asked me to do an x-ray which came back to show according to the doctor a slight pneumonia and then asked me to take some pills which did no good for the pain, by now I started to notice tenderness on the ribcage. That is the point I am at now and I have been really confused and fed up with these naija docs so I did some digging and came up with a theory myself.
One thing I noticed was that I had slight scoliosis close to the top of my spine, not noticeable by the eye but shows up well on my xrays and CT. I then read up that most people suffering from scoliosis had low bone mass density which could be causing the rib cage tenderness and so I was suspecting that I have Osteoporosis, plus I also read that the condition could also come with a deficiency in vitamin K which in turn could cause haematuria tying the condition I had before to it. I would really like your opinion on this as I have already started doing yoga and jogging and I have noticed a level of pain relief that pain killers have not given me ( I tried my best to make sure its no placebo effect ). Anyhow it feels good to be exercising again.
Cheers.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 3:09pm On Aug 04, 2009
Scylla, seems as though you have been through the mill. The thing that has happened is that you seem to have been thoroughly investigated for your haematuria. The fact that they found nothing wrong should make you happy. I am sure they tested for tuberculosis and everything possible.
The thing with doctors is that if you are not satisfied with negative findings they will sometimes speculate. Patients even speculate more.
I dont know where you read osteoporosis being caused by vit K deficiency. That is wrong. Usually vit D deficiency. Unless you are a little white old lady avoiding sunlight, unlikely for you to have osteoporosis.
Slight scoliosis might require appropriate physiotherapy exercises or in your case yoga. By the way jogging sometimes causes haematuria!!!
