Iheanacho Thrilled With Man City’s League Cup Win

Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his delight after Manchester City beat Liverpool in the final of the Capital One cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

The League Cup is Iheanacho's first piece of silverware as a senior Man City player in his first senior season.

Fernandinho had given City the lead following poor goalkeeping from Simon Mignolet.

But with few minutes remaining, Philippe Coutinho equalised, pouncing on a rebound. City went on to win on penalties after extra-time ended 1-1.

Iheanacho, who was an unused substitute in the final, thanked City fans for their support.

"Proud to be among the champions yesterday. Thanks to all the fans that came to support. Come on City!"

As for me, Manchester played well, very well. I think they deserved to win more in regular time, a lot of things that were unrealized played a cruel joke with the team at the end of the match. This is football, to be sure, but in any case won. Who has not watched, I recommend reading Highlights - https://www.naij.com/746585-breaking-man-city-wins-first-trophy-of-the-season.html

[b]One of the great things I love about our threads and the people who make it bubble is that we give no attention to derailing adverts by football sites looking for traffic and gamblers. I'm amused that someone could go to the length of quoting a valid post just to elicit attention. I'm confident that such a one would not be given the acknowledgment he desperately seeks.

Great job, guys.

I, for one, don't want the old guys back. Let's move ahead. Thank you, Enyeama. Thank you, Emenike. Nobody forced them to retire. Let no one call them back. We have alot of people that can fill in for them.

I have been particularly impressed with Awazien. A player like that broke into a solid team for Porto and no one seem to be talking about him. It's a big deal! Not just because he broke in but because he broke in as a defender. A 19-year old playing first team football for the Portuguese champions? Battling with such seasoned internationals like Bruno Indi of Holland, Miguel Layún of Mexico, Maxi Pereira of Uruguay as well as having the vastly experienced Iker Casillas barking out instructions from the goal post. I'm very impressed.

South Africa under-23s to face Brazil in friendly match this month

Danny Jordaan, SAFA president

The South African U-23 Men’s National Team will get an early feel of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games host country when they face their Brazilian counterparts in a high-profile friendly match on Sunday, 27 March 2016, at Rei Pele Stadium in Maceio in the state of Alagoas.

The match kicks off 18h30 (Monday, 00h30 SA time).

SA U-23 head coach Owen da Gama said he was excited about the upcoming friendly encounter, adding that it is such type of games that will harden his boys ahead of the Olympic Games in August.

“We could not have asked for a better match than against the hosts of the Olympic Games. I want to thank the entire SAFA hierarchy and mostly the President, Dr Danny Jordaan, for arranging this very important friendly game.

“It will give the boys a feel of what to expect in August and playing against one of the tournament favourites is what I have been looking for to have a measure of where we are and which areas need to be improved,” said da Gama.

SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan thanked the Brazilian FA for the invitation, saying the meeting between the two countries would afford both countries an ideal opportunity to fine-tune their squads ahead of the Olympic Games.

“I want to take this opportunity to wish Brazil well and much success in their preparations to host the Olympics; another mega sporting event after the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Good luck,” said Dr Jordaan.

The SA U-23s will assemble on Sunday, 20 March, and leave two days later (Tuesday, 22 March) for Brazil. They will arrive in Maceio the following day (Wednesday, 23 March).

Maceio is the capital of the Alagoas State, one of the smallest states in the eastern part of Brazil and is famous for its expansive sugarcane and coconuts plantations as well as cattle raising.

The draw for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be conducted on Thursday, 14 April 2016. It will be held at the Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil starting at 10h30 local time in Brazil (15h30 South African time).

Fred Friday Nets Game-winner For Lillestrom In Scrimmage

Ahead of the start of the Norwegian Premier League, Lillestrom continued their preparations on Monday with a scrimmage against Bodo/Glimt.

The outcome of the game held at Aspmyra was decided by Dream Team trainee Fred Friday, who scored the game-winner in the 51st minute.

The 20-year-old reacted quickest after a shot played by French midfielder Malaury Martin was blocked.

Fred Friday joined Lillestrom in 2013 and had a breakthrough season in 2015, netting 17 goals across all competitions.

The Canaries, who have not conceded a goal against Norwegian opposition in pre-season, face Odd Grenland on Saturday in their next friendly.

Exclusive: Watford Insist On One Million Pounds Annual Wages To Sign Isaac

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Watford continue to thrash out financial terms with representatives of Granada frontman Isaac Success.

The ex-Golden Eaglets star’s move to the Vic in the summer is inevitable, with the Hornets set to lose the services of their prolific forward Odion Ighalo.

But the stumbling block is that Success has been offered 20,000 pounds per week(approximately £1m pa) by Watford, and that figure that has been deemed insufficient by the player’s camp, who are holding out for 50,000 pounds per week.

If the parties can reach an agreement, the Royal Force Academy product will put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

The 19-year-old is tied to Granada until the summer of 2019.

Then I can categorically state that he would be doing Nigerians a great disservice if he goes with 80% of that squad.

Draw a starting 11 of Nigerian U23s doing well all over the world and u'll see that virtually none (except the goalie) of those CAF U23 would make the list.

I dnt believe Siasia would do this. I believe he would select the best for us irrespective of whether they are "his boys" or not.
