Hello medics, my uncle in Ghana just sent me some medical textbooks for my 200l because of the present high price of medical books in Nigeria due to the rise in the value of dollar, but he sent me Harper's illustrated biochemistry and charteajea medical biochemistry instead of the lippincott and vasudevan I requested for. Please medics, How good is that charteajea biochemistry textbook ? I'll really appreciate your answers
Vasudevan has little error....

You'll need to go through the pages. Guess the link is there in one or two of them.
Are you in unizik?

Although it is now a decade I was at 2nd MB class, Harper's was the first choice Biochem text. A typical Lange textbook, it was very concentrated though.

Lippincot is known for its simplicity, but Harper's, when read carefully, will prove better resource.

It is similar to the Last Vs Keith Moore question

I have not heard of Charteagea before now.

Harper's is a good books, I'd pick harper's over Lippincott. Lippincott is like a sedative for me, so boring.

I don't know anything about Chatterjea and Vasudevan, I'm not very comfortable with Indian books but people say it's cool

You could check out Lehninger too, it's nice but very expensive

LOL. I had concluded that Last's wouldn't be good for me because Senior colleagues were always talking about how difficult it was so I stuck to my Moore.

I just decided to check it out and at least see for myself, now I'm in love with it grin grin

But very seriously, my mind:
Jamb no try abeg!
They give bonus marks to lazy students who rested while they should have worked and laid their fate on an unprecedented ''miracle'' to happen somehow while the restless hard-working/worked students were rewarded with either hand-to-mouth scores or narrowly-escaped scores. Negatively unmerited marks for short!

That's too bad. They'll increase the youth mortality rate in Nigeria with these arts or frustrate students to becoming something else negative.
This is extremely unhealthy. You paid for an exam and your performance won't even be judged well. It's devastating joor!!
How is Nigeria supposed to happen *developed* one day with these unfair or unguarded carelessness and mid-day wickedness like this?

God help Nigeria. We are giants even in negativities, and we rate in large percents.. Too bad!

Just feeling the pain for my fellow applicants!

jb marked them down due to there own error from their system. Those that did it on 27th and 29th. Anyway they say experience is a great teacher if you had not experienced something b4 you won't know how it feels. It is proud people like you that belittle and close your eyes from showing mercy on people simply due to you t

true talk my brother. Some situations are better experienced than told.. We should all learn to have mercy and not selfishness. Those who wrote on 27 and 29 will understand better..

Laughs.. It happens at times shaa but there's a clear-cut difference between mercy and errors which pose biases.
I'm not proud please, Expressing my grief for a fault that has left some people who didn't work for it or deserve it heavy with frustration and pain and made others who crossed fingers with either laziness or in lethargy excellent.
That you didn't prepare for it and you were excelled at the expense of those who burned candles with prayers and works trying get something achieved in the end is what you call mercy?
Is that mercy to you?
That's error!
Their systems or databases have error with the scorings..
Who doesn't know mercy or favour?
Everybody should be marked accordingly first! It's helpful to.
Then we can speak of mercy!
An instance, half of your class(of which you were among) spent most of their time studying a course and praying they just pass it and the other half spent time going to party, clubbing and doing all sort of beautiful nonsenses and then in the end, all you serious ones got CO's respectively and those who *tried* among you were just graded pass,(logically your marks must have been exchanged or bought in this case) while the unserious ones got A's and B's,
you call that mercy?

We've better redefined our perspective of things before they start turning to something else for us.
I'm stating my observation of the exam so far, and all it means/appeals to you is mercy when that's barely the case?

We know that there is mercy, and there's also destiny where you may not have been destined by God at an instance of time! Yes! But mercy that turns an order into something else in very vast numbers and reverses the most majority of things at the expense of others, or certifies others impotent and incompetent like this is not desirable to be given that name 'Cos it holds more than just linear explanations for commonies and it doesn't happen in vast numbers like this one reversing placements in almost same numbers! And then such destinies are with almost all the serious ones at a time. No!
I know there's an order governing things found in the universe in which things are done or meant to follow to reach an aim - that's the universal order!
And then in few occasions where God steps in to upset or disrupt this order and unusual things or unparalleled things happen in this order is called mercy!
This case is totally different!
Please, this is error with jamb not mercy ooo.. Abeg! I'm begging you seriously please..

Laughs.. Thank you Sire!

Charteajea is extremely simplified but has its own deficiencies. One of such being that it doesn't really properly illustrate with Molecular structures.

Please who has heard of or used Marks Medcial Biochem, I have been using it for a while and it seems really good, there a clinical question on every page so you are able to apply what you are reading in a clinical setting. For example when I was reading acids bases and salts, they gave a situation of a man who overdosed on aspirin and was having acidosis then used that same scenerio to explain the bodies buffering system. Or do u feel am wasting my time, cus ain't heard it being mentioned here before

Most US based medical students hold it in high esteem. But I think it's not known in Nigeria except by few. To me, the book is good but the way its contents are arranged does not follow our curriculum.
