Like you've been advised, Hotels will put a dent in your finances, I stayed for just 2 nights when I arrived and that set me back $135. (Minus meals oh!) try apartments(dot)com or trulia(dot)com. I hurriedly used the 2 days to find an apartment and sign a lease, and those sites helped. You can filter the search criteria to show only apartments that match your budget
Thanks brother. I will check the two sites now. Hotel is a "no no" for me at th moment. Ain't prepared for that. I just hope it won't be my last resort. God bless you.

Simple there is a link of past transcript here . Find it and write down the questions and build your own answers ....or go up to the search field and put in some keys words and play around with it. And u can change the section to travel . It will bring up others past interview transcript. ... for example you can type VO undergraduate

Transcript will come up. Try different words on the search always puting VO. ...u can type ur school self and Vo and see if anyone has been interviewed going to same school

This was what went wrong. You did not have a powerful convincing short sentence for this. Which is a regular questions u need to have a good answer for .... that is not to say if you go back again u will be asked d same questions. Most likely not....so there are some key 10 to 15 questions that u need to be very well prepared for
Hi Good day. My cousin is about to go for her undergrad the states, and they waived english proficiency test for nigerian student. There is an element of luck in this thing...for some it becomes an issue and for others not so its best to be on the safe side and always take the test : sat , gre , gmat , toefl when applicable

Modified : not just taking it for taking sake but actually studying hard for it and giving it your best

Questions like;

why this school
how did you get to know about this school
tell me your study plans
why did you choose this schools over others
why this course
what will this course do for you
what are your plans after graduation
of what benefits of the course to your career
What's your research topic
what is your total credit unit
what courses will you be taking this semester
what is the requirements for graduation
Tell me all I need to know about you
did you write any test. etc

Note most of them are just repetition, they are just twisting questions... remember home ties is very important. ur answer to first question or the first two questions matters alot..

Success!

Now, I have time to write about my experience so far. Please note that this is my first time Leaving Nigeria, so little things you read about here could that mean nothing to experienced guys should be overlooked. I Apologize in advance for grammatical errors, incoherence, poor arrangement and whatever else some professors are going to point out. I will submit this immediately I'm either done writing or tired of writing. It's going to be long. Please STOP! reading if you don't like reading long scripts. Don't come and say rubbish. Now to those who wanna read... Let us begin. cheesy cheesy cheesy

Left Lagos airport, 6.30am on Friday via Royal Air Maroc. There was no issue with immigration and those other weyreys, I guess it was as a result of the time. it was too early for them to be doing nonsense. They tackled some people sha, not my business so I paid no attention. One guy said I should find something for boys, I just smiled and told him maybe next time. Boarded, Got to Morocco... No issues.

In Morocco (11am), I immediately went to the waiting section of the gate that led to the flight/plane to NY. It wasn't a long wait cos the flight was for (3pm). I traveled with no phone, just my pc so there was no way to reach family and friends. The airport socket in Cassablanca couldn't work for my plug (Look it up) so I was just there. I saw all sorts of Arab girls... yeah, life is always better when girls are around cheesy 3pm sha arrived, boarded and off to NY. 8 hours or so... boring flight. People just dey go toilet like kilode. One nigga was permanently in front of the toilet for hours. sheeet wan wound the guy. I just dey look girls as them dey waka up and down, most of them smiled when our eyes met. I watched Allegiant, Misconduct and 30 days in atlanta, the 30 days in atlanta is the most overrated movie by Nigerians. Jeez!!! y'all need to step up your levels. we sha got to newyork. It was a window seat so close to touchdown, I was looking. I saw so much water: could be beaches, lakes, rivers, whatever. water sha plenty pass the houses... TOUCHDOWN.

After touchdown, we sha walked ahead. American citizens, one side... awa omo wobe... another side. The queue was super long, but it was reducing as fast as it was long. My turn sha came, I had arranged all supporting docs in my bag and was ready for any question(s).

Q: Let me have your customs declaration form or something (they gave a form on the plane to state what you were carrying). I passed it. he looked at me and asked me why I filled just 5 sections out of about 35. I told him it was in French so I didn't understand anything on the form and how I used my brain to fill the ones I could (I have a very confident way of talking - Not arrogant o before you get it wrong. confident... like I'm very sure of what I'm talking about). He told me to sign, asked if I came with food (no), more than 10k dollars (no), took my finger prints, picture and stamped me in. That was it. Off I went to pick up my bags and I was in America. Smooth so far, right? I was in for a big surprise. Imagine dating your virgeeeen gf for 6 years and on your wedding night, you discovered she had the widest pu... nvm. that's how the events that followed unfolded.

I couldn't get out of the airport cos I didn't know where to go or how to get there. I had booked a hotel room from Naija. I wanted to plug my pc (already dead battery) and try to contact family and friends to let them know I had landed. I go use toilet. Open space to pee, as African man, I pull out my kini, their father. pee finish, shake am well. Noticed some guys trying to size me up as African. They must have read a lot about the African D. As I got back, I saw white adaptor (that multisocket ish), Price $10 + $0.89 tax. I converted to Naira (biggest mistake) and got #4290. Omo, Na there I know say Abroad don set. Morale leave my body for a while. From that point, I lost interest in buying every other thing. To go price food sef dey hard me. I kept converting everything to dollars. The girl who sold the adaptor was marketing Sim cards to me. I checked price. cheapest with their plans was like $40, converted again and got like 15k. 15k for sim card!!!

I sat there, thinking about my life hehehe. At this point, I still dey inside airport o, I never see outside as yankee really be. No phone, No internet, Lappy off. I just dey look. Hungry, lonely, doing aka-gum. You know the worst part? I had $1000 on me, BTA. I kept seeing how it's gonna finish under 30 minutes if I didn't think well. I met a Qatari guy who offered to let me use his phone. I added my bro and friends on his whatsapp and quickly sent messages to them. Say my own don be ooo. Prices go kill me hahaha. My bro told me to get outta the airport and go and lodge in a hotel saying he would send money to my account. Na so I summon courage commot for the airport, to make my way to the hotel wey I book.

Out of the airport, I was overwhelmed. I'm placing the emphasis on OVERWHELMED!!! I'm going to talk more about what overwhelmed me with time. Trust me, this is why you should get your butts up, do TOEFL and GRE, get your butts to that embassy and find your wey to USA. As I was dragging my bags around, trying to find my way around, I forgot about the prices of things and whatever hardship could come up(temporarily). Chei... My brothers and sisters, I'm about to go full-scale on 1001 reasons to do all it takes to get out of that Nonsense they call Nigeria (Legally). Whoever tells you to stay in Nigeria and do things the easy way cos of whatever the reason is is not your friend at all. Some would say: Ode, after just two days... when x or y happens, he'll see the real America. My point is... E better to suffer to get better life, pass to suffer and still dey suffer for gidi. I've been here for 2 days now. Plenty positives and plenty negatives.

Wait, should I keep talking about the bad or good part of my experience so far? You decide.

Settling down in a new country can be overwhelming and loney and it takes time. Especially once you start mixing and see that the culture is very different. Some things u have to relearn or re orient yourself

However wait till you start working and if fortunate to get a very good job that when u say this life good ooo. Suffer is just too much in Nigeria. Even those when get good job the stress associated with living in that country is too much. I go to Nigeria every single year for reason i still dey find d sense behind it but after 2 weeks i am like ok i had enough . .... ENJOY

It's took me just 1 week to exceed the $1000 limit that gtbank places on their MasterCard. The plan B I took (sterling Bank) has stopped working abroad. Called gtbank and they said I should wait till next month to withdraw money! Funny people! Person wey dey hungry go wait 1 month?
Who knows what UBA's Exchange rate is right now?
