Na wa for awa people oooo! Drop Ighalo! Musa na average! Make Ideye no near....! All because of one player! grin

Even if Ighalo is 2 or 3 season player, wetin be the problem if e play for the season wey em dey inform for us? Abi form dey last forever?

Use it while it last. Chikena!

Come to think of it, Ighalo was surrounded by greedy and selfish players hence the reason he was unable to score against Tanzania. If Moses passed to him on time he for score. If Iheanacho passed to him instead of taking weak shots, Ighalo for score.

Abi una no see how he take control ball for inside post, Con take turn shoot or how he take dribble one player comot to fire shot for post before the witch keeper take catch the ball.

Make una go watch that match again with open heart and una go see wetin em do. Abi una wan make em turn Ronaldo overnight dribble all to score?

Let us wait for Alex Iwobi partnership with Ighalo and una go see the real goal scorer in Ighalo.

Musa mediocre but he was bought by a world class coach and Premier league current Champions. Abassi mbo! grin

I dnt have issues with ur opinion on this case. But pls can u throw more light on ur last statement? undecided

Zambia announce Oct 9 for World Cup clash vs Nigeria

by Samm Audu

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have announced next month’s 2018 World Cup qualifier between Zambia and Nigeria in Ndola will now be played on October 9.

The kick-off time will be announced later.

This new date is six days outside the October 3 date most people especially in Nigeria have been working with as the date for the fixture.

Observers informed that the new FAZ administration has not been proactive by the choice of this date as it will not allow them to fit in a warm-up game during the week-long FIFA friendly window to prepare for the trip to Cameroon in November in continuation of the World Cup qualifying series.

Both teams last met at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and in ended in a 1-1 draw in Nelspruit.

It was further gathered that following the dismissal of the petition against the recent presidential elections in Zambia, the 2012 AFCON champions are expected to soon name a permanent coach.

Zesco United coach George Lwandamina, who has been in temporary charge of the Chipolopolo.

Algeria and Cameroon are the other teams in this World Cup qualifying group.

OPINION: My 4 hot picks to end Eagles goal shyness

Etebo

Super Eagles have been struggling to get goals in recent time and that contributed to the team's inability to qualify for AFCON 2015 and 2017.

The team under new coach Gernot Rohr found it difficult to score goals against less fancied Tanzania in AFCON 2017 qualifier at the weekend, which Nigeria won 1-0.

I have taken a look at four strikers who could solve the goal-scoring problem of Eagles if given the needed chance as Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers draw nearer.

1. Kehinde Fatai

The former Nigeria youth international is one of the best strikers Nigeria can boast of in Europe.

He is a complete striker who is very dangerous around the box and has proven to be a goal scorer at every club he has played.

The former JUTH FC striker played for Farul Constanta, FC Farul, Astra Giurgiu (All in Romania), Club Brugge (Belgium) and Sparta Prague (Czech).

The FC Ufa forward scored five goals in Europa league, four in UEFA Champions league and eight in the league last season for Sparta Prague. He has scored a goal in two games for FC Ufa.

Romania tried their best to make him play for their national team but FIFA declined.

2. Olanrewaju Kayode

Former Maccabi Netanya of Israel striker is another red-hot striker Nigeria have in Europe.

The ex-youth international has proved his worth as a goal poacher in Israel and Austria.

The Austria Wien striker is fast and always a constant danger to opposing defenders.

He scored goals to win promotion for Maccabi Netanya and helped them stay in the top flight with his goals.

Kayode scored 15 goals in the league for Austria Wien last season and has shown class in the UEFA Europa League, where his club will feature in the group stage.

Previous clubs: ASEC Mimosas, FC Luzern, Maccabi Netanya.

3. Fenando Adi

The big target man has been the best in MLS since 2015 when he joined Portland Timbers.

He has broken every goal scoring record at the club and some in the MLS.

His strength and speed have held him in good stead in the MLS.

Though he has been called up to the Eagles once, he was not given a chance to play even when he was the MLS leading scorer at that point.

Adi scored 19 goals in 38 MLS games last season.

4. Ogenekharo Etebo

The U23 international is a hard working player who knows where the goal is.

He showed his goal-scoring prowess at CAF U23 championship, where he was the top scorer and also scored four goals in Nigeria’s opening game against Japan at Rio 2016 Olympics.

Coach Gernot Rohr has already mentioned the former Warri Wolves star will be considered after he was overlooked on account of injury at Rio.

The Feirense of Portugal forward is ripe enough for Eagles and could be the one to get in the goals.

High-flying Troost-Ekong rejoins Gent in November

Troost-Ekong flying high

Nigeria international William Troost-Ekong has announced he will return to parent Belgian club Gent in November at the end of his loan spell with Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

“In November, at the end of the season in Norway, I will return to Gent, where I have extended my contract,” disclosed the defender, who has staged a comeback to the Super Eagles after winning bronze medal at the recent Rio Olympics.

“It’s the next step in my career development.

“I will be with Moses Simon and Rabiu Ibrahim and we will play in the Europa League.”

The 23-year-old central defender was named captain of Haugesund, who are third on the table with 38 points.

Troost-Ekong, who was eligible to play for the Netherlands courtesy of his Dutch mother and having played for that country’s Dutch age-group teams, has netted two goals in 17 appearances in the league.

Eagles rivals Zambia hire coach Igesund, Kalusha may be sports minister

by Samm Audu

Ex-South Africa coach Gordon Igesund will finally be appointed new coach of the country next week ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Zambia have announced they will host the Super Eagles in the World Cup showdown on October 9 as against an October 3 date most other people have worked with before now.

Igesund has been recommended to take over the Chipolopolo from caretaker coach George Lwandamina and he will now be appointed in the new week after all the bureaucratic bottlenecks would have been cleared following a court dismissal of a petition by the opposition party against the election of Edgar Lungu as the country’s new President.

“Gordon (Igesund) is the new coach of Zambia and with the Presidential petition thrown out, things will now move a lot faster for him to be appointed next week,” a credible source from Zambia disclosed.

Igesund, 60, is a record-breaking who led four different clubs to win the South African Premier Soccer League.

However, he was less successful when he was in charge of the Bafana Bafana between 2012 and 2014.

It was further gathered that the new government in Zambia could see the country’s football icon Kalusha Bwalya appointed sports minister.

The former Chipolopolo coach and captain was president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) until he lost in this year’s polls to Andrew Kamanga.

Rio Olympics heroes raise alarm over $390,000 Japanese gift

Siasia, Mikel flank Japanese fan who donated $390,000 to the Nigeria Olympic team in Brazil

Both players and officials of the Nigeria team to the Rio Olympics have said they are becoming increasingly uneasy that they have yet to receive their share of the $390,000 gift by a Japanese surgeon several weeks after the cheques were presented to the team.

Impressed Japanese plastic surgeon Katsuya Takasu wrote out two Citibank cheques - $200,000 in favour of coach Samson Siasia and another $190,000 in favour of Chelsea star Mikel.

It was further gathered that officials of a top commercial bank flew out to Uyo to collect the cheque in Mikel’s name when the Super Eagles assembled there for an AFCON qualifier against Tanzania last week.

It is expected that this cheque will clear in a few days now.

Coach Siasia, on the other hand, has said he has lodged the other cheque in his name at a bank and that it will take 22 working days for him to be able to cash it.

He is currently back in the United States of America, where he lives with his family.

A worried team member expressed some reservations over the delay cashing these cheques, saying they may well be schemed out of getting their share of the cash gift.

“The entire team agreed how this money will be shared, but with all these delays we are no longer sure we will get what has been promised us,” he complained.

“Delay is very, very dangerous in this case.”

"We really don't know what is happening as regards the cash," added a player to the Rio Olympics.

Onobi wants Europa League action with Finnish club KuPS

Paul Onobi in Finland

Nigeria midfielder Paul Onobi has said he hopes his Finnish club KuPS get a third win of the season over title chasers Marriehamn to boost their chances of featuring in the Europa League next season.

Onobi is one of four Nigeria stars at KuPS with the others being Gbolahan Salami, Azubuike Egwuekwe, and former U 17 World Cup winner Abubakar Aliyu.

The four players will be on parade against Marriehamn later today.

KuPS have defeated this club twice this season - in the first round of the league as well as in the Finland Cup.

Onobi said he hopes they win a third time.

“It will be difficult to beat them again as they are the ones topping the table, but with hard work we will make it a treble against them,” he said.

“Victory for us at our home ground and that will put us closer to the ticket of Europa League.

"We are presently fourth on the table and we can achieve our objective which is to qualify for Europa league.

“The last time my team played in the Europa League was in 2012, we are eager to return to the competition."

KuPS are fourth on the table with 38 points from 24 matches, eight points behind second-placed Marriehamn.

TRANSFER BAN: Real Madrid Set To Miss Out On Abuja Academy Teen Wonder Abdullahi

The chances of Spanish giants Real Madrid completing a deal for highly rated Nigerian teen wonder Suleiman Abdullahi has been drastically reduced, following the transfer ban placed on the team by European football governing body UEFA.

17 year old Abdullahi was a thorn in the flesh of the B team of Real Madrid in a youth tournament played in Croatia. The forward emerged as top scorer with 8 goals which include a goal in the 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the final.

As exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com on the 10th of June, officials of Real Madrid sounded out the teen who also won the award of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the tournament. But a deal for him could be off following the transfer ban on the Spanish giants.

Abdullahi is presently training with Serie B side Spezia, and got off the mark for the Primavera side of the team in a pre season game. The youngster is presently with the team to improve on his abilities before a deal or a transfer will be agreed for him once he turns 18.

Roma are now the clear favourite to land the forward. Thanks to their very good relationship with the handlers and owners of Spezia, the team from which Roma got Sadiq Umar and Nura Abdullahi via Football Academy Abuja.

Kaduna born Maduka is one of the five Nigerians at the club, after joining the club that recently signed Nigeria internationals Uche Nwofor and Rueben Gabriel in January.

19 year old Maduka who is above six feet tall had a slow start to his career in Slovakia. Making just two appearances in his first six months at the club, but this season he has grown into one of the mainstay of the defence for the champions.

So far he has played in their six games in European cup games this season, featuring in their four champions League qualifiers tie with another two appearance in the Europa League qualifiers under his belt.

EXCLUSIVE: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR MONEY FOR PORTO MUSA YAHAYA TEARS NIGERIA ACADEMY

Top officials of Mutunchi Academy of Kaduna are currently at loggerheads over monies paid to the team by English giants Tottenham Hotspurs for the transfer of Musa Yahaya.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly completed payment for the 18 year old while on loan at Portuguese second division side Portimonense before he was sold to FC Porto by the second division side. But the monies paid to the team by Spurs has already reaped officials of the team apart.

Auwal Mohammed the proprietor of the Academy reportedly gave peanut to other officials of the team which has caused an uproar among the officials who felt cheated.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered he was given over 30 million naira as second installment for the payment of the transfer by Tottenham Hotspur but gave officials of the 15,000 Naira each much to their dismay.

It’s not the first time the controversial academy proprietor has been involved in issues of financial greed as he was beaten up last month by some aggrieved parties whom he reportedly short changed in a financial transaction.

The only player from that list that I reckon can grow into being part of an attack that can solve the problem of goals drought is Etebo.

Kehinde Fatai, Fernando Ardi and Olanrewaju Kayode can not do better than what the likes of Ighalo, Iheanacho and Ideye are doing.

My picks could be Isaac Success, Imoh Ezekiel and Karo Etebo. Victor Osimhen is another good future prospect but IMO is not ripe for the Eagles yet.

I wholly agree with you. Nigeria parade lots of average players in the NT at the moment. whose reading of the game & movements on the pitch leaves nothing to be desired. Look at our game against Tanzania for example, our substitutes in person of simon & ndidi played their role better than the guys initially in the position. Once the coach starts picking players on merits, players with tactical awareness & technical abilities, then we will do better. We need defensive midfielder who can block/break play or intercept the ball & quickly turn it into attack & is equally better in aerial duels & can move with the ball or give short or long pass with precision & with an eagle eye for goal. And we also need wingers that understand their strikers and will be ready to play with him. Someone releasing the ball on time and not foot dragging like moses all the time.

Totally missed it. I had to rush to do something after the game. I will download it later and watch it. Thanks for the update.

Big Shout out to Odion Ighalo. Nice to see him changing his pattern of play and I see him scoring more soon. From the game against Tanzania, where he pulled off that lovely skill, I hoped he was working on playing more with his skills than strength. Today was a proof he was working towards that.

He is also dropping deeper to help make the midfield more fluid. Hope he keeps growing. Big win for Watford.

Iheanacho became City’s youngest goalscorer in a derby game when he added a second. He has now scored nine goals from his last 13 shots on target and continues to develop into a fine forward.

He may lack experience, and Guardiola was right to take him off early in the second half, but this is a young player with so much quality.

At the final whistle, he went over to the away end to show his appreciation and was greeted with the fans singing his name on a loop.

I think we need those players, especially to change the game and give us something different when we are in difficult times.

There are times when you need an Aaron Samuel or a Sunday Mba to win games for you even when Emenike, Ahmed Musa and co are present on the field.

Fanen Adi for instance is tall and may bring aeriel threat.

Kehinde Fatai and Kayode deserve a look in too. These guys may not be marked out easily as defenders do to the popular guys. They can take the defenders unaware.

Imo Ezekiel has lost the form that made him a goal machine in the Belgium leagues some years ago, he should go rediscover that form first before dreaming of Super Eagles shirt.
