I wouldn't advise you to wait an entire two weeks before seeking medical attention. The swelling could deteriorate before then, take him to hospital asap, get him tested and commence with treatment

Fascinating

This goes beyond tinea, pityriasis or any fungal infection

I just hope those aren't enlarged lymph nodes

I doubt that, I don't think lymph nodes are found on the scalp....
@op, is the child running a continuous fever??
Looks more like a staphylococcal infection....
Take him to the hospital ASAP!!!!

Beneath the s.c.a.l. excluding the periosteum Sir, are post auricular, Pre auricular, occipital, parietal and mastoid group of lymph nodes Sir. They can become superficial when enlarged.

If u recall they are d ones sought after when we do general examinations

Good, now check the pics uploaded and see if those swellings are located in the anatomical regions you mentioned...

SIR!!!

SIR!!!

The point Sir like u rightly put it before when you said; "I doubt that" is that the lymphadenopathy qualify to be cross-examined and excluded from the diagnosis. Afterall anything is possible.

To further shed more light on the perhaps error in ur last post. I can see what qualifies as occipital and parietal group of lymph nodes. At the regions of the external occipital protuberance and parietal emminence, Sir.

My suggestion remains a diagnosis of exclusion however, Sir.

Anyway, a better assessment would be made when the patient is seen, history taken and a detailed examination done...

But for now, I still doubt that those swellings are lymph nodes, because as the OP mentioned, they are non-tender......

Unless you want to talk about lymphoma (which is characterized by painless lymphadenopathy) and the location of the so-called lymphadenopathy is not characteristic of lymphoma...

Well done chief....

Like I have been saying, anything is possible.
If u still don't think lymph nodes are in d scalp then ild advice u to seek tutorship from our old textbooks or their latest edition equivalents.

You can't afford to let ur ego be reduced by a medical student, Sir. These basic things should not be forgotten for the sake of our pride as doctors.

Cunninghams or last should do d trick

Hey, now you're being disrespectful.....

Never talk to an initiate like that, or else it's YOUR own ego that would be reduced.....

I still insist those are not lymph nodes, and the only person that can correct me is a fellow initiate....

You are still a student, not even a house officer, and you dare refer me to my textbooks??

What is wrong with these children of nowadays??

@op, as a doctor (with a little bit of self-respect)I would strongly advice you please take the child to another doctor for evaluation, and please get back to me on this thread.....

I sincerely apologise. My methods at expressing concern were misread and interpreted for something else. I am admiting that I stepped too far.

Does that look like lymphnodes?

All you need is antibiotics

What does it mean when lymph nodes swell in two or more areas of the body?

When lymph nodes swell in two or more areas of the body, it is called generalized lymphadenopathy. This may be caused by:

A viral illness, such as measles, rubella, chickenpox (varicella), or mumps.
Mononucleosis (Epstein-Barr virus), which results in fever, sore throat, and fatigue, or cytomegalovirus (CMV), a viral infection that causes symptoms similar to those of mononucleosis.
A bacterial illness, such as strep throat (caused by the streptococcus bacterium) or Lyme disease (a bacterial infection spread by certain types of ticks).
Side effects of phenytoin (Dilantin), a medicine used to prevent seizures.
Side effects of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination.

How are swollen lymph nodes treated?

Treatment for swollen glands focuses on treating the cause. For example, a bacterial infection may be treated with antibiotics, while a viral infection often goes away on its own.
Any swollen lymph nodes that don't go away or return to normal size within about a month should be checked by your doctor.

How long will lymph nodes remain swollen?

Lymph nodes may remain swollen or firm long after an initial infection is gone. This is especially true in children, whose glands may decrease in size while remaining firm and visible for many weeks.

Now I see 2 medical personal exchanging words over a minor. Medical ethics please. Anyway we cannot diagnose a patient of an ailment based on pictures only it might be lymphoma or an infection but we all hoping it's not lymphoma. The boy still has to go for an examination as we cannot palpate or inspect here on NL. Abeg no fight o.
