I have made enough points explaining why Mikel is World Class. If you can disprove the points or say that they do not make him World Class then I will listen. Mikel was key to a successful Chelsea dynasty.
The Ancelotti year is probably the only season I can say Mikel performed consistently throughout the season and YET, he wasn't among the elite CM/DM in world football. Is he a legend? Yes. World class, No. There has never been a season where Mikel has been rated among the best midfielders in world football. Passing stats doesn't change that. I've seen Coquelin make top 5 most forward passes in europe at one time. Heck Leon Britton at Swansea used to be among the top passers...are either better than Mikel?? No. Even at his peak, he was never a top 10 CM/DM in europe...not ever. Saying he's world class is over hyping him. Yes he's put in some killer performances from time to time i.e UCL final vs Bayern, UCL vs Barca, vs Manure, etc but he never did it at a consistent level year in, year out.

Without that goal Barça would have won Comfortably, Chelsea defended as a team, it was not as if Mikel was playing like Kante.

You forgot with your "shield" they were 2-0 down. Mikel is No Kante Please.

Oga, Kante has not achieved anything yet compared with Mikel. Believe it. Without Mikel, Chelsea defensive formation prior to the UCL victory would have been breached.

Ranieri, Shearer Praise Ndidi After Superb
Goal Vs Derby

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has heaped
plaudits on Wilfred Ndidi for his stunning 20-yard
shot that put Leicester City 2-1 up against Derby
County as the Foxes advanced 3-1 after extra
time to qualify for the next round of the English
FA Cup, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ranieri said shortly after the game that the
Nigerian international was impressive when he
came on for Nampalys Mendy in the 91st minute
to restore the Foxes lead after playing for less that
four minutes.

The goal was Ndidi's first for Leicester City in what
was his sixth appearance for the club.

"Derby played good football and we won. This is
what we needed and I wanted. Wilfred Ndidi
made a very good goal as did Demarai Gray,"
Ranieri told the BBC after the game.

"I'm happy with Ndidi. This young player full of
personality and good character. We've chosen
well.

"We want to do well in all competitions. We want
to go forward in the FA Cup.

"The Premier League is not so good but we have
to stay in the Premier League. This fresh air is
good for the players."

Also pleased with Ndidi's heroics was former
Blackburn and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

"That was much better from Leicester. They got a
very good goal from Ndidi.

"They should have got a penalty and should have
scored another." the Ex-England captain Shearer tweeted during the game.

Mikel would not play that role in Leicester. He is probably more creative than the whole Leicester midfield. But, Kante was immense last year. But the current Leicester team will not win the league even with Kante.
Maybe, but they certainly wouldn't be hovering close to the relegation zone. Anyways, we're all seeing this season his performances wasn't a fluke.

KELECHI IHEANACHO WILL FIGHT BACK AT MANCHESTER CITY - ROHR

Kelechi Iheanacho will fight back at Manchester City - Rohr
Kelechi Iheanacho scores for Manchester City
by Staff Reporter
Thursday Feb 09, 2017. 07:52
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has backed youngster Kelechi Iheanacho to fight back to serious reckoning at Premier League side Manchester City after he was left of the squad for several weeks.

Iheanacho, 20, last played for City on January 15 as a late sub in a 4-0 loss at Everton.

This season, he has scored four goals in 15 appearances in the Premier League.

And Rohr has now said he believes the former Flying Eagles star will fight his way to the City first-team squad despite the arrival of Brazil star Gabriel Jesus.

“I am sure Kelechi will come back to this team,” assured Rohr.

“He’s a fighter, he has a good fighting spirit. This player is a good athlete and he has a good mind.

“I have spoken with him and he will come back.

“He’s a young player, so sometimes he plays, sometimes he doesn’t.

“And for a big club like Manchester City, you can’t play all the time.

“I believe he will come back to play for City again.”

Under Rohr, Iheanacho has flourished at full international level – he scored in the first two matches of the Franco-German coach, against Tanzania and Zambia.

Balogun Set For Mainz Return Vs Augsburg

FSV Mainz 05 coach, Martin Schmidt, says Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, could start against Augsburg in their Friday's Bundesliga home clash.

Balogun has not featured for Mainz since the
second half of the Bundesliga kicked off on
January 28 due to injury.

His last game for Mainz was in December 2016.
Speaking during his Thursday's press conference, Schmidt praised Balogun's progress in training in the past few weeks and mooted his availability for Friday's match.

"Leon Balogun has done well in the last two
weeks, he is in contention to start at centre
back," Schmidt informs.

And on Mainz target for the remainder of the
season, Schmidt said: "Our next goal is to reach
the 30 point mark. That is what it is all about for
Mainz right now."

AIG07:

Is Balogun injured?

It's been a while he made his club match day squad.

I hope all is fine with him.

To the Super Eagles, I think Ndidi has earned the right to bench Onazi. If he keeps developing, he will find himself at a big club soon.

My Eagles midfield will be Etebo, Ndidi and Mikel.

It appears Rohr does not rate Esiti, Mikel Agu has been in terrific form this season and should get a look in.

As things stand, our weakest position might be in attack especially with Kelechi's status. Ideye and Ighalo have flattered to deceive. I hope Isaac success can have a run without injury. He could be the solution especially for the Cameroon game.

Did you watch the match yesterday?

I think Sir Joseph just voided the Quotes. Essien Played better than Mikel in that 1-1 match although he was to blame for the equalizer.

There have been Numerous times where most Nigerians have said Mikel should be dropped from the S.E through the Years, I would make a bold Claim that even you at One point shared that Opinion.
Did mikel actually played in that 1-1 encounter??

I can vividly remember he was on the bench and when Essien scored, he ran to Mikel to celebrate the goal..

Unless he came in as a sub if not I'm not sure he played

my criteria for being world class:

1. be an exceptional performer in your role which all and sundry will acknowledge (not just club fans and country men)

2. personal awards won (best goalkeeper, top scorer, team of tournament etc)

3. churning out consistent good sometimes great performances over a long period of time for club and country

4. trophies won club or country

now if a player ticks all the boxes in the above mentioned criteria then i would consider him world class
I agree with this but no 4 is a no.
A player like Totti never won the champions league or Seria A but it would be hard for me to name my top 5 best player over the past 20 years without mentioning Francesco Totti. Dude is a top top player. Proper legend.

Essien was back. We are talking of time running out, Chelsea leading the best playing club side in football history and Belletti was not in position to help defend. That is what defending in numbers bring. A cover for mistakes. If Mikel was on that field at that time, he would concentrate on seeing out the game by shielding the defence.

There is no way to be sure, we have seen Mourinho bring Mikel on late to secure a Victory and later draws the Match. Happened recently with Fellaini too.

The truth is, the word world class is only synonymous with an attacker and an attacking midfielder. Chikena!

But in some special cases wing backs are also tagged world class.

Nobody will tag a defensive midfielder world class because em no dey dribble, em no get assist or no em no dey score except they have all these attributes then dem go call you world class. Even those that have these attributes are deep lying playmaker or a box to box midfielder.

I have seen Mikel Obi play for Chelsea more than hundred times and I think he never played to his potential though he brought stability to the team and allowed many to flourish but he never showed his real color. That is why most Chelsea fans don't really rate him though he's a legend in Chelsea..

But whenever I see my Mikel in green and white, Hmmm, sometimes I dey vex because e come be like say Chelsea na em dey kill the guy star.

The truth is, without Mikel, no Ucl medal for Chelsea. grin

I am in a dilemma to call or not to call.... until I see the world's definition of world class.

But shaa ooo... The Camerounian defenders have the genes of "meanness" in them... Always no-nonsense and unwelcoming..

And please, Ngolo Kante is not World Class. He just started his career.

Is longevity the determinant of world class or is it quality.

China Achebe in Things Fall Apart, gives an Igbo parable, "When a child has washed his hands he can eat with Kings"

How long did it take the Brazilian Ronaldo, Robinson, Ronaldinho and the recent Neymar to become world class.

In Neymars case by the time he was 18 he was already in the national team, he is 25 now and already has 75 caps and 50 goals.

The same could be said of Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo. Let's even add this small boy Pogba arguably by 21 was best midfielder in the world.

It's not how far but how well, I leave the matter for Matthias.

Neymar being in the National team at 18 does not make him World Class. Pato was in the Brazilian National team at a young age and he was not World Class. Same for Oscar and Anderson.

Neymar now is World Class because he has performed at a top level for a long time. 2009 until today is not short. Ngolo Kante is just starting his career.

With regards to Ngolo Kante he has just transformed the concept of defensive midfielder, raised the bar and moved it to another level.

If he is not World Class then tell me what is. Last season he was the glue that held Leicester together and enabled them to win the EPL.

Absolutely nobody is on par with thus guy nobody is doing what he is doing.

This season he is the turbo charged direct injection diesel engine that's driving Chelsea to new heights. Have ve no doubt he is intrinsic to Chelsea' s almost run away with the EPL title this season performance.
