Maybe its the bank you are using. I have tried with my Access debit card. I know someone that used his GTB card on paypal site last month too.

1. Well I may not really know so much about US universities. But if 90 percent of them do fund PhD according to your claim, then why do some schools ask students for proof of finance as a prerequisite for sending I-20 form or so? For Canadian universities it does not work like that. You could even apply solely for the visa using your funding letter as evidence of finance. It is the exclusive duty of CIC to assess your proof of finance and not the university of your choice.

2. Like I said I am rounding up my degree right now and I have too much on my plate. I am taking some certification classes, taking my last course, writing for publication and at the same time writing my thesis, while working by the side for my supervisor. So it is never about evading or running away from GRE. I do not have the time for GRE right now and I am aware some universities do exempt candidates that studied in the west for a specific period of time from taking GRE.

3. About the research of a thing, I already mentioned that I got a university in Chicago from personal research, that does not require GRE and they do have good rating. I saw another one at Maryland or so but I do not like their rating. It's just about getting fast answers and cutting corners using people's experience here and that's all about it.

The challenge is that you are expecting the schooling/admission process of U.S. to be same with Canada where GRE isn't key but also counts towards the student profile. I understand you have so much at your hand at this time nonetheless, most U.S. schools will require GRE since they believe it is a level playing ground for all students. Therefore, the decision is yours to either write the GRE if you are serious about crossing to the U.S. or stay back in Canada to continue your PhD.

They don't bruv. I uploaded mine and the 2 hardcopies i took to the consulate were returned. LagosNIV mentioned something about this too about a month ago on this here thread.

Well the trust issue is not a 1 way thing as you made it seemed, its a 2 way thing..The person sending Naira too is as skeptical as you are of not being scammed...Its just about trusting each other.

Yes, whether you are the one sending the dollar, or the one receiving the naira, both people face a similar faith. In this situation, we are equal because the money involved is valued equal. What if I send my naira and at the end didn't receive your dollar? There has to be a mutual trust for the deal to be sealed.

How can you be in need of naira, and you ask me to send my naira first before sending your dollar. No, I wont. You are the one in need at the moment, so you make the move first. Anyway it's a matter of mutual trust as I said.

for how much?? you can easily just go the school website and get more information about the school... you should only ask question when you're trying to clarify or get more information concerning a particular section about the school instead of open air question

Just a quick advice, if you are sure of coming this fall and you have relatives you can trust abroad, just go to the bank now and send some money with money-gram or western union for them to keep for you or open dorm account, now that its seems banks are disbursing dollars.You dont want to go through the 'war' of using money gram/western union when there is dollar scarcity. Economic analysts are predicting that the dollar will still go up because CBN wont be able to sustain the injection of forex to the system.

You don't need to pay any fees first. 99% of the schools will allow you pay when you get to the US. GA application defers in each school. Some schools consider every applicant automatically while some schools require you to fill a separate application form. Check with your school, you should contact your program grad cord. He/she is the best person to give you first hand answer

Please I will be applying shortly for F-1 Students Visa for PhD study and I want wifey and 2 year old daughter to accompany me. I understand that she will need the F-2 derivative visa. Trip would be in August.
Now, wifey will be 6 months pregnant by August. So I am looking at two options:

F-1 Student Visa and F-2 derivative for her (Plan A) OR
She applies for B-2 medical visa for child delivery and travels ahead of me (Plan B)


I have heard rumours that chances of denial of F-1 Students visa would increase when the entire family accompanies the primary holder. Please is this rumour true? Since I heard this, I have started inclining towards Plan B but once I can confirm that this is not true, I will stick to plan A. Your input would be highly appreciated.
