Thknks for the correction. I took it from the table on page6 of the result. They wrote 17naira there, but indicated 7 on the write-up below it. That same page also says EPS N43.58

Interim was N10

This TOTAL is simply in a class of its own..Excellent result.

Turnover increased by 40% (290.95b in 2016 compare to 208.02b:2015)
Profit before tax grew by 213% shocked
Profit after tax went up astronomically by 266% shocked
EPS (2016:43.58% 2015:16.24%) representing a whooping increase of 45%

Dividend; interim and final- 2016:N17 2015:N12... 2016 final dividend payable is N7.

Recommendation: STRONG BUY

And if disgruntled investors want to dump based on low final script payment= wait for the bottom and load up (a repeat of UCAP) cool cool cool cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin

I don't think any investor in his or right senses will want to dump this kind of stock with a very strong fundamentals when the poorly performed and stingy NEstle could only dash peanut as dividend supported with weak results didn't witness such. So why would Total not enjoy same. Though, like the saying goes, mr. market has a mind of its own so we will wait and see the reaction tomorrow.

By the way, yours truly is heavily loaded on this stock.

Give us FYE dividend yield and we will tell you where Mr Market is taking it to.... grin

Is it <6%?
It is curious that interim was more than final.

Part 2: Technical Analysis As a Leading Tool

Today, let me show you how we can simply determine buying opportunity and when to exit using the concept of Swing Highs (SH) & Swing Lows (SL).

Chart 1 shows a stock that has been in downtrend for a while with series of SH & SL lower than the previous ones. Technical Analyst will have a clue that the stock is about to change direction at the SLs with purple and green circles. How?

1. The Analyst looks at the indicator to find evidence of +ve divergence at SL circled purple. If not there, no qualms
2. SL circled green must have a low HIGHER than the low of SL circled purple
3. Another important clue you will see here is the increase in volume

At this stage, an aggressive trader has what is needed to buy.

That is a leading tool. While others were busy dumping the stock for whatever reason(s), the stock accumulation is ongoing... grin

Oh I missed that! Don't worry, be patient.
Another buying opportunity shows up when SH with blue circle moves above the previous SH and price pullback to the value zone forming a SL
circled brown.

MACD, RSI & other indicators will start giving BUY signals when Price moves above SH circled blue. This is the time the general public will start looking to buy, buy, buy... By this time, Smart money will start to sell to them at a higher price.

Take: Technical Analysis tools are lagging, as they provide late signals. But experienced Analyst don't use them for signals but as a guide.

Chart 2.
If I want to be greedy & do not want to sell early, chart 2 tells me when I can finally exit my position in the stock.

1. Simply when in an uptrend a previous Swing Low is broken
OR
2. At Swing High circled blue, my indicator shows a -ve divergence... it is a leading tool informing me to get out of the trade while people are buying, buying... grin

Take: Technical Analysis tools are leading tools depending on their deployment.

Chart 3
Is a chart of Diamond Bank. See how accumulation of the stock occurred at SL circled blue in December 2016 and recently early March 2017 before the public see the explosion of the price!

Below is my post regarding the stock earlier:

BullBearMkt:
SIGNAL TYPE: BUY

RISK: HIGH (Due to overall market sentiment)

TICKER: DIAMONDBNK

ENTRY: 0.78 - 0.81

STOP LOSS: 0.7
POTENTIAL PROFIT TAKEN: 0.9

REWARD/RISK: 1:1

Disclamer: This signal is purely based on technical analysis and is the opinion of BullBearMkt. Due diligence should be carried out accordingly.

...that is not lagging or reactionary, but leading or proactive...

grin grin grin grin grin

Just hope somebody will benefit from this... Best Wishes.

Nigeria was officially declared to be in recession sometimes ago and as @feelamong posted yesterday stock market delines:

feelamong:
"You get recessions, you have stock market declines. If you don't understand that's going to happen, then you're not ready, you won't do well in the markets." - Peter Lynch

So, we are still in a bearish market instead of bullish market alluded to in your post. However, as I said:

BullBearMkt:

Inside recessions, there is also stock market inclination. And in every economy buoyancy, stock market declines. It all has to do with the understanding of what is called MARKET STRUCTURE.

Your advice to tread carefully should be respected at all times... but there is a place for "pro" no matter the market's condition

A STOP LOSS literately is the action you take when the trade is going against you (or your trade). This action is to quickly stop the trade completely. You pre-planned this even before you enter the trade.

This is also, in monetary terms, the maximum amount of money you are ready to risk (or loss) in case the trade did not go through as planned.

Although its too early to say how things may go for total, it appears some pple are already dumping, as the stock appears to hve lost 5% already this morning. Lets see how the day goes before making any conclusion. And the stock is on full offer. Na wa for NSE this year oh.

@kenmaro, it all depends on your investment strategy (plan)... are you dividend hunter or looking for growth in a stock?

If you are a dividend hunter, I think you entered in a good position & wait until dividend is declared & benefited from it. But, be careful, the trend might change anytime before dividend period.

Growth Hunter? What amt of gain is satisfactory to you?... 20%, 50% 100% or 1000%. It's left for you to decide. Market has a way to deal with greedy people. Just as someone advised earlier today, "tread carefully"

It's not manipulation! Many people (Smart Monies) are selling since they know buyers will want to buy the stock as dividend has been declared. Simple!

I am sorry, on this, I totally disagree with YOU. So, why wasn't same reaction to Nestle price? In terms of dividend yield, Total is far better than Nestle. How come this manipulators, oh sorry sellers didn't do same for Nestle?

I cannot agree more. That of Zenith Bank, GTB and Access bank made it very clear to me. To hell with Fundamentals and all that ordinarily and naturally moves the market, NSE is a special case of Market Manipulators makers.

Good question. I don't want to bring technical analysis in, but its all evident on the charts of the 2 stocks. More buyers (Smart monies) came into Nestle at the time dividend was declared when they know that many will be scared since the stock was on a selling mode (I posted something similar on that day)... Total is the opposite.

It is not your judgement to determine which is better. MR MARKET will... that is what I always stress. It will go up, but let the smart monies complete theirs.

Tritri:
Upon NESTLE result with less than 2% yeild..It still almost on FULL BID...NSE na wa ooh.

From the technical point of view, it seems to have bottom & ready to move up!!!

No need to rush buying now. This low will be tested later...

UBA may get to #7 or not but can never pay dividend more than #0.50 and you have#1 profit now by the units you bought it, is that not big money to you? why some people are praying to see dividend of 15or25 kobo others sell with profit of ten kobo .
