It's a mark of territory. I remember when my husband and I were still dating, he had this other girlfriend he was dating before he met me, when the girl heard of me, she started bringing her things (hair relaxer, body cream, toiletries etc) to kinda flex muscle. I made sure I wasted those things. My husband has boys who work for him then, they came around often so I made sure those boys use them. She would bring another one, I would squander it till she eventually got tired and stopped coming. With that and other "coded" things, i succeeded in chasing her away.

But the way I see it, those items are not too hard to pack & unpack, so why would any self-respecting babe who values her privacy and dignity, decide to drop her things off in a place where the man has not even paid her bride price, or done any of the rites leading to marriage? Is it due to laziness? Since you do not believe it is a sign of marking her territory, to send subtle signals to intruders to keep off?

If she does this in every single relationship she gets into, (which she feels is not a random one), in how many houses will she leave her stuff behind? There is no telling what the next girl who comes into the guy's house, can do with her things....
