God bless every single person who has contributed to this thread. Your contributions were of immense help to me hence, the need to give back. I have been reading as a guest but decided to sign up this morning.
Brief background: I have a good travel history but I have been denied a US visa twice. Yesterday was my third attempt. My husband is a frequent traveler to the US, the VO acknowledged this during my second interview but because I was newly married, he said I was still building ties.
What I did differently:
1. I filled the job description part of my application like I was writing my resume for a big job. I made a big deal of it
2. Where they asked for reason why previous application was denied, I strongly defended my ties in Nigeria
3. Prayer cannot be overemphasized. My mom, my sister and I were in a prayer chain which we neither planned nor discussed. It was after I got the visa each of them told me they had been interceding for me

VO: (Looking through) what did you go to do in the UK?
ME: Vacation
VO: How long have you worked with Bleep? (I was wearing my ID card)
ME: 6 years
VO: (Nodding) Have you met me before?

VO: Never mind. How much does your total bill come to? (Typing)

VO: $11,700? That’s a lot of money. If you’ve only been married 8 months, how are you able to afford that?
ME: We have an investment account
VO: (nodding and typing away) what does your husband do?
ME: He’s a banker. He works with Bleep
VO: Do you have any relative in Texas?
ME: Yes
VO: Are you able to stay with them?
ME: Yes
VO: Who might that be?
ME: My husband’s sister and my mom’s brother
VO: Plan to stay 3 months
ME: (Thinking it was a question) no, 10 weeks
VO: I’m advising you to plan to stay 3 months. You have to travel at least 4 weeks before your baby comes and it’s advisable to let your baby be up to 8 weeks before you get on a plane to take a long flight. So, give or take, 12 weeks
ME: Okay (wondering if that means she has approved my visa because she’s typing away)
VO: (Getting up and circling something on a white paper) Ensure you take along all your documents when you travel; your doctor’s letter, estimated costs, any prepayments you may have made, whatever. Just anything that can help you get in because you are going to have to show it at the border
ME: Okay
VO: Pick up your passport in 3 working days, I have just issued your visa (hands me the white paper)
ME: Thank you

Following the scarcity of Nigerian passport from abroad, is it possible to get the Nigerian passport for my LO in Nigeria and take it along with me to the US for her use to return to Nigeria? Has anybody tried this option? I read people now find it difficult to process emergency travel certificate (ETC), VOA too seems not to be readily available unless you know someone to help you out (as @desouls has helped many here). Quite a number of people are asking for @desouls contact while some are getting frustrated.

Please can @desouls give a step-by-step guide to be taken to process the VOA without necessarily calling for his/her contact anytime anybody wants to process the VOA.

Which/whose passport photograph are you going to put on it...?? or do you think Nigerian Immigration would give you an Intl passport without a photograph on it?? ayam not understanding ooo...

plus if the Nigerian passport booklet is still scarce & you cant get the ETC or VOA, you can still apply for a Nigerian Visa from the embassy. Eddie & Tanko could help with that or you can do that yourself if there is a Nigerian embassy in your city

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean unborn child. How can one get passport for an unborn child in the first place? What I meant is that my wife already gave birth in the US and I am due to join her later to return to Nigeria together. Is there any problem if I get the passport here and take it along with me. As per passport photograph, I already have that and every other details.

not sure that will work. The baby needs to capture albeit new born....so just go with the option of applying for a visa on the USA passport. All the best

Thank you for your comment. I have confirmed from the immigrations office and made to understands that it will not be possible as the child would need to be present before passport can be issued.

The passport booklet is not available but when you contact the insider within the embassy the booklet becomes available?

We need to stop feeding those corrupt Nigerian embassy workers

first, the answer to your question on if you can process your LO PASSPORT in Nigeria and take to USA is NO..on the issue of ETC, its suppose to be for people who lost their passport and can not get a new one before returning to nigeria, sometimes immigration dont issue it to baby b'cos it does not have much identification on it ,its for adults who can prove that they are nigerians, on the issue of booklet scarcity, , then on VOA, the steps are well detailed on immigration website, pls log on to www.immigration.gov.ng...pls am not an agent, i have said it before ,also i dont work at the embassy, some of you who have met me knows my office. i try as much as possible to be silent on some issues, even when people ask for my contact here, i see them but i always ignore, we help each other to get cheap flight ticket,accomodation ,hospital etc, some after their missionary journey thank those that answered their pms. i hope this helps thank you.

i dont work at the embassy and VOA is not processed at any embassy in the world.am a fellow nairalander,
@ the bolded, nigeria immigration facilities are all online. so if nigeria embassy workers are corrupt, lets stop patronizing them and do it our selves, when i needed nigerian visa for my LO, i contact somebody in our atlanta mission and the processes and money was too much for me, i decided to go for VOA which i processed and i shared the good news here...they are not corrupt, if you need their services apart from what they are being paid for, you should get ready to pay them, in USA, if you need your LO blue passport very urgent, you will have to pay higher than normal price(correct me if am wrong)..for more info on VOA pls visit www.immigration.gov.ng i hope i did not violate any rules.

Nope... cos they have to capture.

You can do visa in US there. 2 years validity, useful esp if you are a frequent traveler

that's correct...or better still do Nigeria passport, I can confirm to you that passport booklets are available in all our missions now, especially in USA.

Hi,

I will like to ask if anyone here has used a midwife birth center for child birth. We had our first child at Delsol with no complications, paid all bills. A friend in El Paso Texas recently told of this option and the fee appears to propose huge savings, though we were considering Chicago for the birth but the distance of the accommodation to the hospital seems far from google map (over an hour drive).

Please I will need your advise / direction on this.

well, in every 12, their must be judas, if you say 'some' i will agree with you..what you will kw is that most of all those embassy workers are not immigration officials ooooooo.but all the may God help us
