By Babajide Komolafe The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monday injected $190 million into the foreign exchange market even as the naira remained stable at N371 per dollar in the parallel market. Meanwhile the apex bank said that banks can sell their excess foreign currency trading positions to one another without seeking its prior approval. Acting Director, Corporate Communications department, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor confirmed the dollar injection. He said the CBN offered the sum of $100 million as wholesale interventions and allocated the sum of $50 million to the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) forex window. Customers requiring forex for Business/ Personal Travel Allowances, tuition and medical fees, among others, got $40 million. On its part, Director, Financial Markets Departments, Dr. Alvan Ikoku announced the decision of the CBN to allow banks sell their excess foreign currency trading positions to one another. In a circular titled: Further Liberalisation of the interbank .

The stock is not ready to go on that 'explosive' journey yet. Best decision was to enjoy the rally that went and then plow back profits to this train. Market timing is impossible but why hang in there when some other stocks couldn't wait to give of their goodies.
Personally, I needed Dangsugar to move before taking position in Dangflour. When I saw the bid at N8.21 for the former, I took position at N4.30 for the latter. Hoping the market retracement won't affect significantly, else...

World Bank raises forecast for Nigeria’s economic growth to 1.2%: The World Bank yesterday upgraded its forecast for Nigeria’s economic growth to 1.2 per cent for 2017, citing improved oil production due to decreased militant activities. (Source: Vanguard)

Comment: In line with World Bank’s projection, we expect Nigeria’s GDP growth to turn positive in 2017 given continued support from improved oil production due to reduced militants’ activities in the Niger Delta. This, in addition to pick up in manufacturing and construction sector activities on account of FX sales by the CBN and government capex spending should bode well for improved GDP performance in 2017

With N10b accumulated loss sitting in equity, I don't see it paying any interim or final dividend (at year end) as being touted by some people...

Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you. This is a spiritual revelation.

They wanted to come tell us what they did with the proceeds of the dufil prima deal but had to shift it because of the MRS visit.

My guess is either way given what i have read and heard from pple on the exchange.

1. Since its an asset disposal, they might decide to pay shareholders interimdividend since asset disposal is not affected by the policy on retained profit - its not a profit nor a loss grin

2. They might decide to use the money to nil off the accumulated loss position and make the company viable for dividend payment again. I am only wondering how much was paid and other conditions attached to the sale. Anybody with that info should kindly help out.

But if its the dangote i know, all the flour used in producing indomie henceforth will come from dangote flour.

Either way, he must give me 20m+ before july ending. Gotta do something with that money urgently.

Be decieving people while you mop up at 4.40. I am seeing your handwork. Later you come and tell us cock and bull story of how you quickly mopped up this morning when you saw the prospect last week.

Dangote Flour Mills: Operators weigh impact of divestment on shareholders

By Nkiruka Nnorom

THE divestment of Dangote FlourMill Plc from its noodles business will result in more value accretion to its shareholders, operators in the Nigerian capital market have said. According to them, selling the noodles business will allow the company to concentrate on the pasta and flour businesses where it has efficiency and competitive advantage.

Dangote Flourmills had said last week it has sold its noodles business to Dufil Prima Foods Plc, makers of the Indomie Noodles. The company said it took the decision after a regular portfolio review revealed that Dangote Noodles was not strategic to its vision.

According to the company, the divestment was part of strategies of focusing on core areas of flour and pasta production where the company has substantial market share. With the divestment, Dangote Flour will now focus on its strengths in flour and pasta and become more profitable by improving in areas of quality, distribution and marketing. Financial Vanguard analysis of the income stream of the company showed that the noodles business represents only a minute portion of the company’s operation. In the year ended December 31, 2016, it contributed only N8.14 billion, representing 7.7 per cent to the company’s total revenue for the year. Dangote FlourMills raked in N105.77 billion in 2016.

According to Tola Odukoya, the Chief Executive Officer of FSL Asset Management, shareholders will still get value since the company would rake in more money from the sale. “Based on whatever due diligence they must have done, they are letting go of a division of their business that they believe they cannot make more efficient now under their own management,” he said.

Odukoya noted that based on the greater efficiency they will get from the divestment by concentrating only on the flour and pasta business, shareholders will still get more value at the end of the day. “By the divestment, they are simply saying that in terms of noodles business, they do not have the competency and efficiency to run the business and rather than using shareholders fund to continue to run the business, let us sell it to somebody who can do it better and get value for it, which means that shareholders’ value has increased in that regard.”

Johnson Chukwu, Managing Director/CEO, Cowry Asset Management Limited, said: “If a company is divesting, two may happen. One is that the company can pay special dividend to its shareholders from the proceeds of the divestment and it can also decide to reinvest the proceeds of that divestment into its operation to drive its core business.

“If the company decides to reinvest the proceeds of the business and that reinvestment leads to higher profitability from its core business, then we will see an improvement in the stock price, but if in the alternative, the proceeds of the divestment will be shared to the shareholders as special dividend, then you are going to see a downward correction in the stock price of Dangote FlourMill share price.”
