My family friend graduated from secondary school when she was 16, her mum was rushing her to finish and get into the university. She did some international examinations and passed but when she arrive America, she was placed on a program in the university 'till she was 18 before she could start her course properly. Even while on that program, she still exhibited the psychological state of a 16years old 'cause there's a limit to what they could handle.

U think oyinbos that made sure ur kids are atleast 5-6yrs before schl re dumb.

They know each stage and level of your mindset,at 16 I can't send my kid to university never.

Emotional pressure,torture by those archived obsolete lecturers actions can kill a soul.

What do u av these days,a 3month old baby that is suppose to be sulking and sleeping most of the time already stated school once u can cal Dada and mama,they believe it's okay.

We are loosing our Values in Nigeria,and those useless moronic leaders that suppose to check mate all these are all busy embezzling money or planing how to embezzled ones.

Seriously though, who kills themselves over poor grades. First year grades that can be corrected.

She seems religious, considering her posts. May heaven be merciful to your soul. This is a wake up call to the parents of teenagers in schools to be alive to their responsibility and be more concerned about the all-round well-being of their wards. This tragedy could have been averted if she had someone to lean on, to reassure her of greater hope that lies ahead. I wonder what these counsellors and course advisers do in schools these days.

Same here. Right up to my final year, I had at least an 'E' each semester, but I still gradged with an upper too. That's why the story seems off for me. Commit suicide over an 'E' in a first year course, for wetin na?

I tire sef,why would a course be branded most dreaded course , rubbish ,all this riff raff lecturers and their stupid behaviour , that's how one yeye lecturer boasted during my days in the University , he claimed that 90% of students in the Dept must come back for extension , that's how it has always been , we organised a tutorial for his course (inferential statistics ) we taught ourselves , and almost every one passed .I even got an A.
we realised the course wasnt even the problem but the lecturer 's attitude was .

Like most systems in Nigeria, the educational system is bleeped.

From archaic curriculums to lecturers who believe they must be sadistic to show how powerful they are, to lack of counselling units. I can go on and on.

In saner climes, the lecturer who takes the course will be investigated to find out why a course is termed "dreaded".

Some of these lecturers need to be educated that the failure of their students, in a way, is tantamount to their own failures too.

My first year In Funaab I had 1.94 with 4 carryover
I finished with 3.20 without an extra year

Any school that glorifies Chemistry 101 as a dreaded course should be ashamed. There is need for urgent re-orientation or outright sack of some morons camouflaging as 'lecturers' in Nigeria. If you are not competent enough to impart knowledge of basic Chemistry on your students then you and your employers are the failures.

Counselling is key. Every school should adopt it especially for 100 level students. As a course adviser, you should always speak to your students with poor grades and encourage or help them to do better

I cringe when I hear this platitude over and over again especially from people who couldn't make good grades themselves.

Anybody that has the opportunity of making good grades should please do.

I know you might start citing dropouts and those that never went to school yet made it and I daresay that those were the awful smart and superlative students that led their classess. Eg Zuckerberg, Paul Allen and Gates.

And for every dropout that made it, there are billions that didn't make it.

I have Diploma (Public Administration) ND (Town Planning, HND (Architecture), BTECH (Town Planning), PGDE (Geography Edu) certificates: all with good grades. Thus, I am talking from experience.

So, don't tell me that only mediocres say this.

I think that at my age, I can boldly say I am learned.

YET, I REPEAT, CERTIFICATE IS OVERRATED.
