Hello house, i will like to share pictures of installation details of how we install our polystyrene parapet on a building we just worked upon. I decided to use this house to show the details as the client gave us a special design to work on.
thanks to engineer justemmy for trusting us with the job.
Picture 1: shows the designs we received from the client. Option A was finally agreed upon for production.
Picture 2 : shows a sample of the design cut on naked polystyrene for clients approval.
Picture 3 & 4: pictures of the house before we crowned it with this special polystyrene parapet design. The building is about 120 linear Meter.

Thanks to these guys for the constructive discussion we had the last time which made us make it a point of duty to share pictures of how we install our polystyrene parapet to show to all other people that the material won't give way like a pack of cards if properly installed.

I will also like you guys to come and give your comments about the way we installed the product and if you have some contribution on how to make it better we are open to it.

Yes it is a bungalow and it is at the parapet stage. Can I get a number to call you on? This is a bit urgent as the work needs to be done next weekend.

I want to make a decision on which to do. It is 63mtrs in measurement. Give a rough estimate.

Thanks

The below pictures are also pictures of how the parapet work was been installed.

Picture 1 & 2 show the way we fastened the polystyrene board to the building as we we also drove some nails to the front of the panel together with binding wire to hold it to the wall. from the pictures it also showed that client only need to put woodwork at the back to cast his roof beam.

Picture 3 & 4 is polystyrene look after roof beam has been casted. it could be seen that polystyrene binds well with concrete.
if client isn't constructing a roof beam, we can still fastened the parapet to the building using the binding wire and nails to the inside wall of the building.

Hello OP, interesting topic you have here, Kudos. I would like to know if the parapets come in default designs or is there room for custom design of the profiles by Architects or Builders. Thanks

Good day sir,
The parapet has a standard design which I am attaching below and which I have used in most of the pictures used before. You can have it in any design you like just like the pictures we have on this page which I tried explain that you can also customize your parapet.
Most times designs apart from the standard design actual cost a bit more depending on the amount of polystyrene material that will be required

It looks straight, sharp but what I don't like is the cost for the installation of the parapet. Can't you guys find a way of reducing the materials cost? I see those casted beams as waste.

Sir,
Not all building use roof beams, and if the building is not going to use roof beam we can still install the parapet on it. I believe the roof beam only make it more firm when it is casted with the parapet. This building already has its roofing done with no roof beams on it

Due to Popular demand and as we promised this is a detailed cost comparison between typical concrete cast insuite and Polystyrene parapet. we had to put a jpeg file as it is not looking well arranged on the site.
we would appreciate those people who are more into daily construction to also look at our analysis
for for further explanation you are free to place you questions or observations below

Good day Teewhy,

Thanks for the wonderful analysis.. If I understand correctly installing the polystrene paraphet will entail using soft wood and prolly light casting..If yes can you give an estimate of these 2 variables using the 57 linear metre in your previous analysis and update your previous comparison if possible.

I am interested in this as I ve a project which is 60 Lm and i have decided to use the polystrene paraphet.

Thanks in anticipation for a prompt and favourable reply.

Good day sir,
This variables are not really necessary, sometimes we don't use the wood if it is not available on site, The wood is just to make it straight and when it is not available we take our measurement and make use of lines and nails to set the boards, on the issue of roof beam casting, not all the installation require roof beam as well. if the client is casting a roof beam we will install on it before the casting and this make it stronger. I don't have an estimate of roof beam as we don't do roof beam casting.
where is the site located?
you can send your architectural plan to our email frugesarenaltd@gmail.com for us to also calculate the linear meters.

Thanks for the response.

I do understand your points..there re several ways in which things can be done but there is always the best and standard way. You ve said and I quote

"I believe the roof beam only make it more firm when it is casted with the parapet. This building already has its roofing done with no roof beams on it."

So in your opinion the roof beam makes it more firm.

However you can also fix it without a roof beam..whats the guarantee that it wont fall off if fixed without a roof beam?

As you know a house is a long term investment and it is better to do things the right way from the scratch.

My site engineer has informed me that his original plan is to cover the last blocks (hollow)with casting but without rods..(no roof beams). will this be enough to hang the paraphet? will it make it firm as using a roof beam?

Lastly I will advise you add the estimate of the roof beam and also state that it is optional so clients can make an informed decision.

Thanks in anticipation for a prompt and favourable reply.

Good day sir,
Yes if you are going to fill the hollow of the last layer of blocks with concrete. That will work fine , the material is actually not heavy.

From my calculation, using 12mm rebar, 8mm rings and 25grade concrete the beam wld cost about N3500 - N3700 per Linear Meter... Materials and Labour inclusive.

You can however use 10mm rebars and a lower grade of concrete since the polystyrene are super light weight... But not less than grade 30 I'll advice.

@Teewhy2 pls take note.

Frequently Asked Question.

1) what is the cost effectiveness of using Expanded Polystyrene material compared to concrete for users who are not building beyond a floor and are building on a dry land

Our Wire Mesh EPS panels come in modules of 1.2m and if you provide us with a drawing of your building we will do an Abacus (wall panel breakdown) and cut out all the wall panels including window and door openings needed to erect the building. These wall panels can be assembled in a day. Imagine all the walls of your building up in a day!! After panel assembly and M&E works, the walls are then sprayed and plastered. This building system allows for rapid assembly with little or no need for lifting equipment, less construction time and lower foundation costs compared to traditional systems because the material is so light. No skilled labour is required. If you are building a bungalow on 'dry land' as you say then you do not need anything more that a german floor slab or strip foundation

What if the next building is on small fire, will the heat alone not be enough to melt down our Polystrene Wall house?
Imagine if the house on fire was saved and our own that was just close-by has melted down completely?
Is that a possibility or am l just thinking too loud?

Sir,
with the way the building is done fire from a close house can't just bring down the building, the polystyrene panel is still been screed-ed. it has a special adhesive called poly plaster which is used in the screeding also your can apply cement-sand screeding on it which doesn't allow the immediate transfer of heat.
also let not forget that the polystyrene panels are fire resistance that is not just any form of fire affects it. The degree ( temperature) of fire that affects it will be ready to bring down most house constructed with traditional materials.
The panel even after been affected by fire doesn't burst into flames but shrinks in order not to increase the fire intensity.
we will be happy to explain more of this to you, if you still have further concerns.
