Baba calm down, nobody is saying to deny your heritage but recognize the superior authority in where you find yourself. You are not even fighting for social amenities, good roads, good schools, you are fighting for titles? Come on man.

If you guys wanted to do this a proper, t should have been a proper Ijaw king in your own Ijaw land that should have gone to the Oba to make this demand if it is that necessary. I think a community head is sufficient for that place though, don't even think it makes up a local government.

Let me explain the narrative. Gelegele is the only access Edo state has to the ocean. It has been a territory under the Benin kingdom from time immemorial. That's where the British usually pass to come visit Benin and those who know about the Benin expedition can relate.

Now like most communities in Benin, other tribes come in and are given the freedom to farm or fish within the Benin territory but do so under the purview of an Enogie- the palace representative. That principle has existed in Gelegele ever since without qualms.

Recently, something interesting is happening in Edo. There is a new forward thinking Oba and a new visionary Governor. They came in at the same time last year. They sat together and decided that Edo needs a Seaport to drive a new industrialization plan.

And some folks just don't want to see progress so they decided to look for trouble over what has never been an issue. I might just have to conclude that the Ijaws are anti progress. The only thing this unnecessary trouble making can cause is to scare away investors. It's just a pity how backward a people can be.

Your analysis is factual as far as the importance of the area to Benin from time immemorial, but I see a lot of ignorance in people's reaction on this thread. I don't have enough fact to make pronouncement on historical ownership of Gelegele but I know for certain NO ONE IS OLDER THAN THAN THE IJAW EVEN IN BENIN. Yes, they've made troubles here and there, claiming what's theirs as well as what belong to others. In fact, they were in Benin before moving on to the likes of Delta, Rivers , etc. They're one of the most ancient people in Africa, they've just been poor in projecting their history unlike others.
