I know there's no place like home but when home isn't inhabitable you can find someplace else and call it home. Everyday thousands of people come into this country from all over the world to call this place home.
My job took me to Nigeria where I lived for two years before coming back to the US. Nigeria may not be as bad as western Media paints it to be, however it isn't a country I'd advise anybody to live in. Every part of the country is relatively messed up, morally bankrupt and irredeemably backward, with retrograded mindset set of people from a radicalized north to an extremely Christianized south. Corruption thrives in the Nigerian oxygen, every Nigerian seems to breathe it in without even knowing - thank goodness i didn't catch the bug... The system is broken beyond repair. Think about ur kids and how unfavorable the system would be to them. I have never seen a government so apathetic and nonchalant to the plight of her people. The life expectancy of the average Nigerian is very low compared to other western countries that's because people die from treatable illnesses due to a failed health care system, majority do not have access to good health care...
your savings in your 401k may allow you get a nice apartment in a middle-class area but remember that, that isn't the real Nigeria, the real Nigeria is outside your home, the society you interacts with, the deplorable roads you drive on when you go see a friend or relative that lives on the other side of town, the corrupt judicial system where the word justice is nothing but a farce, the society your kids interacts with - i could go on and on - unless you wanna live in a gated neighborhood with zero interaction with the outside world then discard this advise. If you are looking for more money investing in the country is a good idea but living in it is not. you can invest from here, you don't have to relocate.
Think it through thoroughly sleep on it over and over again to avoid taking a decision you will regret for the rest of your life.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he thought the guy wrote 300K$ which is still not enough for a standard fuel station in a good location.

Lol, that's the point bro. Its above 100k and it changes nothing but trust me, I earn more than 200k every month from fiverr. I strongly believe that with 9 million, he will do well if managed well because I have seen business of 2.5m move to 7m within a year.

But if you want him to be earning 10m every month, then he should start doing yahoo. You should hear him, he worked for 2 years and his saving is 9m aside from the work he did while studying.

There are business that are lower than that and live a happy and fulfilled life. The op is looking at settling down but guess worth, you have through your words made him change his mind and its even good bro.

If you need him to make 100m, then he should join MMM again

Enough Already! Dont insult the sensibilities of millions of Nigerian Youths. Dont rub it on their faces. We have heard about fiverr and those who are interested will partake from ANY PART OF THE WORLD. Or is it only in Nigeria that you can do fiverr? So your drivel wont stop those who want to migrate from migrating. The mistake you and pidgin are making is that you feel all Nigerian youths who want to migrate are doing so due to poverty. FYI, you are wrong! Some people just value living in stable and working societies. Capisce?
That guy is funny, deff one that lives with thier parents,if a man earns N100k in Nigeria per month then he is in poverty accoding to inflation index of Nigeria, some pot of soup cost up to N15k and will last three days if yu got a wife and two kids, N15k x4 is N60k, so u gt N40k left, transport school fess and other foods and house rent means you are out of pocket, unless you reduce your stabdard of living to the point that the poverty is easily seen!

30k is just a little coins above 10MN.
Are you telling us that 10MN can build a fuel station?
It is 30k US dollar bros!

Yes 30k dollars is just about 10 million naira
And yes 30k can build a petrol station
I have statistics in documentary form to back these facts up.
Nevertheless by my statistics here is a summary of how much it costs to build a petrol station in Nigeria
1.Empty Land ( 1plot is idea but 2 plots is preferable -budget -500k -900k

2. Service station ( this is the building in the middle of every petrol station where the attendants stay or dispense other items except petrol from or where the managers office is located.. It is commonly a rectangular shaped building the size of 2 rooms. Mud blocks can be used to save cost and cheap corrugated roof can be used in it's construction since it building itself is almost useless as it doesn't in real sense bring any income for the petrol station when in operation. Budget 1.5 million to 2 million ( foundation 400k, construction to lintel 300k, roofing and plastering 1.2milion naira )

3. Underground tank - this is the actual most important part of a petrol station so it's advisable to build this first before constructing the service station ...price varies but most popular version is in form of a septic tank which almost everyone has in thier homes just that the plastering would be different to accommodate the petroleum products to be kept In them....budget 800k to 1.5 million naira

4. Fuel pumps/dispensers - for some very crazy reasons fuel pumps and dispensers cost a fortune even though it's a pump and an electronic meter to measure the quantity of liquid being dispensed is in all of them.... Fuel dispensers are expensive so budget 1 million for each unit ... The minimum you need is 2 units, on average you might need 3 fuel dispensers ....so budget 3 million

5. Shield for the fuel dispenser...this is made to provide shelter and illumination for the fuel pumps. They can be made from anything so far it does the job ...budget 200k

6.misclleanoues expenses which include the cost of applying for license to lift petroleum from Nnpc depots (if you have ur own tanker if not you can simply enter an agreement with someone that has ) and other operating costs -1 million naira

Total costs
1.empty land- 500k
2.service station- 1.5 million
3.fuel dispensers - 3 million
4.fuel shield/shelter-200k
5.operating and misclleanoues costs -1million

So total less than 6 million naira so in an effort to answer your question not only would 10 million build a petrol station in Nigeria, it can even build 2 petrol stations and make back the 10 million in less than 2 months of opening

Your sincerely

@ OP: all my life, I have never been a fan of traveling out of Nigeria to go and start a new life but with the current situation of what I'm seeing here, I might be forced to take that decision in 2019 if we make the mistake of electing another idiot into power. Nigeria is a perfect example of what a nation should never be like. There is a place of patriotism, and there is a place of reality. No doubt, there are people making it in Nigeria but then, you have to ask "at what cost "? At the cost of your sanity? You are probably used to a sane environment where practically everything works well. Coming to Nigeria, expect a total opposite of what you are currently enjoying... I'm yet to find something that one can easily get in Nigeria without having to cut corners. There are businesses that you have to do and you would have to settle a lot of insiders before it flies. Sometimes, it eats into your profit so much and you end up not really getting what you want. Look, I don't want to scare you but your $30,000 might not be able to get you through what you have planned down. You'd have to learn the ropes of how to do business in Nigeria and truthfully, be prepared for the worse. Apart from the cost of living, Nigeria is not totally a perfect place to live if you want your sanity. Like I said earlier on, the current government is a disaster and whoever we elect in 2019 would determine a lot. If we elect another idiot in 2019, I'd start packing my things and find my square root cause the country is deteriorating daily. Before you relocate back fully, think things through. There are almost no jobs and doing business here, is quite expensive and almost frustrating. Only the strong can survive. If you don't have that strong survival, rugged and determined spirit, pls stay where you are.

Only the strong can survive. ... you mean Only the Corrupt can survive.... The problem is really our leaders, i always laugh when i see someone that scammed me on a deal, preaching to youths on various platform and widely televised, on how to make it the right way... Sadly Nigerians believe all the media propaganda.

Greetings my fellow Nigerians. I'm facing the prospect of coming back to Nigeria after 8 years in the USA. I finished my post-graduate degree and I'm coming back with a Bsc, MBA and 2 years of work experience in the telecoms industry. I want to know from my people back home, how is the general national feeling, how they enjoy their lifestyle/quality of life and the hard-truths of what I'll be facing coming back as I've been so far removed from the national consciousness because I've been in the USA for almost a decade. I feel passion about my country and people but I need to know what too expect. So my people are you happy with life back home?

Do you own a house in the city where you want to live?
Do you have a car?
Do you have borehole and standby gen?
Do you have a business or is there a guaranteed employment waiting for you?

These 4 things are the prerequisites that you MUST have before relocating to Nigeria. They will make things a little easy.
You are thinking of relocating at the worst possible time--Buhari time. I hope you are not the breadwinner in your family.
The biggest challenge will be dealing with fellow Nigerians back home. Try living in Nigeria for 3 months, some experiences are better lived than told.

My advice: Don't do it! 1 month in Nigeria is enough to suck the life out of you.

Relocating to Nigeria should be a gradual process.

Nicely said,,, but sadly things hardly work that way, before you know it the fuel station might be ear marked for demolition, because the lawyer did not ensure that the proper C/O of was obtained, hope you get my drift, or that the road network has to expanded, no problem the person who invested all his money in developing the petrol station, might wait forever to get government compensation... things hardly work the way it should, in this Country.
