Hello BnSTIL,
A friend sent me this message this morning asking for my advice.
"My father bought 800,000 unit of Wema bank share at 10 Naira (public offer) years back. He is not the monitoring type and he didnt tell me . Now he wasnt able to monitor it till the price goes down to 0.5 kobo and the bad thing is that since he bought it , Wema bank hasnt give dividend. what should he do"

Your dad's investment in Wema has obviously reduced to one twentieth of its value. But that shouldn't be a cause for alarm as the investment can be managed to within the next few years ahead yield back the original capital and even additional profit if you get good advice and are willing to take it. The Nigerian Stock market is a place where there are as much chances of gain as of loss. All it takes to be a winner in it is refusal to give up, timely information and promptly acting on it. A lot of folks you see here lost bigger fortunes than your dad courtesy of the 2007/2008 manipulation/ bubble burst but have been able to recover all and even made more gains by refusing to quit or give in to the psychological devastation that came with it.
I will therefore advise that your dad sells those units of Wema right away to avoid 100℅ loss which may soon come to be on the strength of the 1k rule, and then use the proceeds to keep buying into other currently profitable companies in succession such that with the power of compound interest he will have in good time recovered his initial capital and additional profit. Patience, positive mindset and fortitude are the keys here.

If he can sell, sell it. Find other stocks that will have good yields and if appreciation comes with it, he will gradually recover.

Csl is also one of the top five houses in the Nigerian stock exchange.

Big houses have a lot of institutional and foreign clients, you can always move when they are moving before it becomes a public knowledge.

During the bull run of 2003 to 2007, I was a margin trader with FBN Securities.

This is why it is dangerous to invest in shares and go to sleep. yours truly have always advised newbies and experienced members of this forum that when they do long term they should review their portfolio at minimum every 6 months to be sure the fundamentals are still valid.

This is a classic case of downside risk of investing in stock. Investment reduced to nothing.

Please elucidate sir .... How else would you know they are moving aside the obvious increase volumes ? Does FBNH inform its customers about moves by the big players?

They have a very good research department, when I was with them about 10 years ago their stock picks were on point. The major money I made from the stock market was through them.

You have access a to bouquet of financial and wealth solutions from the products of FBN Quest and its subsidiaries which include FBN merchant Bank, FBN capital, Fbn securities, FBN asset management, FBN trustees, Fbn funds etc.

The charges are normal as prescribed by the Nigerian stock exchange, except you are trading big volumes and values.

United Capital Securities is also okay, I have been with them since 2004 and I am still with them, unlike my Fbn securities account which I transferred to BGL Securities then to CSL stockbrokers and back to FBN Securities.

I don't know much about ARM Securities. With 250k in cash or stocks you can open your stockbroking account with United capital securities, unlike FBN Securities which requires a minimum of N5 million in cash or stocks to open a stockbroking account with them.

MSCI INDEX IS WINDING UP ACTIVITES FOR18 DECEMBER 2017- NO MAJOR PURCHASE- ADDED MORE GUINNESS, SELL UNILEVER ETC/POSITIONING FOR 2018

Attached is the full list of the changes. With one major holding off the list additional space has been created for replacement.

Thank God we are aware of this list. We must improve in our investment profitability come 2018.

This then take me to what equities we need to be positioning ourselves for in 2018, maybe one of our selections may make this list or have substantial addition. It will be strictly for stocks that are in the major indexes as per the changes in the incoming and outgoing companies. Some of the incoming companies will now attract more visibility and some outgoing companies will try their best to fight and come back into the list. Maybe to make a guess, Dangote Flour (you know this is our own “Tiger Brand”) may make the list, if it does not make the lIst at least, the fact that it is now part of the Pension index should impact the price positively. See my next postings for this.

Caution: Investing is a risky venture. This is just my opinion and I cannot be liable for any loss suffered as a result of following this recommendation All data used are assumed to be correct, but you may need to verify some of the figures independently. You can check data at https://www.globalxfunds.com/funds/nge/ for the movement in the MSCI Nigeria fund . If you are interested in the excel sheet from where the additions/subtractions are derived, you can send me an e-mail via this forum.
