“When I was leaving to go to War College, I declared my assets. I could recall General Jemibewon then, was the Adjutant-General of the Army. He rang me and said he was sending me asset declaration form, that I must fill it, sign it before I left for the United States. And I did.

“General Jemibewon is still alive. And when I became head of state eventually, I declared my assets again.

“So, if you people are serious and interested about political officers becoming multi-billionaires, you can find out from Murtala downwards. And those of us who were not very good in making money you should pity us.

“Everybody likes money but I am not very good at making money. Let me put it that way. I borrowed from the banks to build the house in Daura and the one in Abuja that you mentioned and the one in Kano. The bank then was Barclays, now Union Bank. Kaduna State or North Central then housing scheme and the Federal Mortgage Bank for the house I am in and AIB, which was, I think, terminated by Central Bank. So, when you go through the records, you find out that the houses I built, I borrowed from there.”

We love civil servants on 100K salary but pays 1 million naira in rent, purchases 10 cars of 10 million naira each in 2 years; sends his children to school abroad and is completing a 200 million mansion in Abuja and another in his village al while in service.

My brother, the world is so complicated and globalized. If u can't make money locally, what hope do we have u understand what your ministers are talking about? The country is like a huge board meeting with d directors being well positioned to take quick and relevant decisions. Character gets 30% here and d skills to understand how to make things happen gets 70%. U would prefer a leader who can create $1b in value and finds in genius ways to pay out $300m to consultants etc than a leader who sees d same opportunities and makes $300m and refuses to make consultants who could have created more value rich in d name of fighting corruption. His character has created high unemployment oh.

If ability and records of creating wealth was all that was required to lead a complex society, Herbert Hoover a successful millionaire who became president wouldn't have led USA into the Great Depression. It took sets of decision by a man not known as a millionaire or to have founded huge companies FD Roosevelt to lead the USA out of the depression and to it's greatest height of all times.

I am not saying Buhari possess all the qualities Nigeria needs at this time like quick decision making ability, grand vision, but you cannot divorce integrity, honesty, character from the leadership mix. Other countries have been led by non-graduate, non-businessmen leaders who are huge in the department of vision and single purpose and have good results.
