Good day house.
Please I need help to a few questions.
I do more of TBills, and about to divest to Stocks and MMF.
My risk appetite is a bit low since this fund is a family money which I had ran for 3years at minimum of 12% per annum.
Could holding good stocks for a few months give a 20% profit?
My target is keeping it at 20% per annum.
Is stocks the best for me, or MMFs?

Simply advise;
since u said its family money, keep doing what u do, and if there are alternatives, i'll still suggest more Tbills or bonds.
...These are safe investment haven. ...so u don't make a mistake.
Unless of course ur already grounded with the nitty-gritty of stock market investment.
...but even if u are, i'll still be worried because it's not ur fund. ...and u have a low risk appetite.

My 2 cents

Too Early. After the BOD approves the accounts it has to go to CBN for regulatory approval. CBN being CBN it can spend up to two weeks there.

Everyone seems to be discouraging you. Well, I am relatively new here so the advise I am giving would be that of a beginner with few months experience. The truth is Stocks could actually make 100 times what u presently making in MMf. You only need to ask questions, do you own research as well. The market so far has been amazing this year.
You can make more than 20% trust me. The truth is also that you can lose as well. My candid advise again is that Stock trading is not for the faint hearted. U can do it man.

Please Sir. Stick to what you have been good at. Stock market is volatile. Your motive is also suspect. You are looking for quick returns. Although it may come in quick succession but are you prepared if you lose your capital.

Please how can you say my motive is suspect? It's quite demeaning and insulting, Sir.
I have my business, and am raising my siblings and keeping the family together from the earnings off the principal.
20% per annum is more than good enough to keep them going till they come of age and decide what to do with life.
Thanks again for the advice.

Please keep doing what you are doing.
You can also do MMF - low returns/No loss - call it getting rich slowly, also funds in MMF should just be left alone to compound.
Keep following this forum you will learn a lot before venturing into stocks.
Good luck!

Only invest what you can afford to lose.
That's one of the rule in NSEM.
You can gain as high as 200% per annum, also you can lose same within the same period, including some of you capital.

Since it's a family business, continue with what you are already doing, don't be tempted to test NSE with that money.

But you can use your personal money to invest for long term.
When you are ready to invest, look for these stocks.
1. Zenith bank.
2. UBA Bank
3. Access bank.
4. FCMB bank
5. fidelity bank
6.Dangote sugar
7. Dangote flour
8. Eterna oil
9. Afriprudent
10. UCAP
11. FBNH

The are good companies, and all in the group of dividend paying stocks.

All the guy wants is 20% and y'all are telling him to stick to what he knows.. y'all actually got burnt because y'all are after 100%. My dear, if 20% is all you want and you don't mind to wait a year ? Choose from any of these stocks. NB, FLOURMILL, GTB, DANGFLOUR and FBNH. Buy and monitor closely once you get your 20% sell..
na greed dey kill people for NSE. But if I were you, I'll go long-term with any of those stocks cause they can give you more than 20% if you are patient.

Simply do the following;
1) 1st discover the real u and know if what u actually want is investment in stocks. ...put urself through a proper scrutiny.
2) Empower urself by reading books on investment. (...also use investopedia. ...it comes in quite handy).
3) Always follow the general market trends, including this forum.
4) Make focus, humility and commitment ur best friend.

...and when u feel ur mindset is ready, start investing with little funds. ...then increase ur stake as ur level of maturity grows.

Btw, i'll also suggest u have some basic understanding if u also wish to go into Cryptocurrencies. ...For while the returns there can be really very high, the inherent risk is also very high.

I wish u the best in ur endeavour my dear !!

Plz stick with TBills... no need to risk that capital(family money).
U can take few dough out of int on TBills to start trading and see for yourself if its achievable.
Start small with part of the interest while you learn.
It is a personal journey, u can make above 20% per annum and you can lose 50% & above.

@dreamflyn,

Ill suggest you take this advice especially as that money isn't yours alone.

I followed this thread for over one year learning the rudiments, read a couple of books, also read more than half the posts of fxuser and currentprice all before I put my first one naira.

There will always be money to be made in stocks, whether you start in 2018 or in 2019, there's no point rushing. Money is difficult to make ( at least for me grin), one should also make it difficult to lose. As far as the stock market goes, one way to make it difficult to lose is having adequate knowledge.

Cryptocurrencies is in the group of MMM or gambling, not advisable.
Anything that don't have address, or government regulation, is not good to participate.
The truth is that you will see your money rising, without having the mind to quit, and when it will collapse, even your capital will join suit, it will make you over night rich man, and times too over night poor man, more worse than it meet you.

Both FCMB and first bank has good futures.
FCMB recently acquired LEGACY pension fund, that is in charge of most civil servants pension.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/fcmb-group-completes-88-2-acquisition-legacy-pension-managers/
And the really has good forward looking statement not like Oando grin , CSL stockbroker is also one of the subsidiary of FCMB. Am seen them, in the nearest future standing tall in their group ( FCMB, fidelity and Diamond bank)
FBNH is growing fast, when compared with their recent EPS

Anyway, my focus now is on Access bank, because they will be the one to declare dividend this year, among the banking stocks.

In the stock market astronomical gains could be made that could make you happy for the rest of life and, as well, very huge losses which may mar one's emotions for the rest of life could also be incurred. Gains of up to 800℅ could be made within a year if you are of veteran experience in the market while a new entrant with virtually no experience could have all his capital erased or, if he is lucky, stuck in one company for years.

The factors which determine your success level in the stock market are but not limited to:
1. Your real ownership of the funds you hope to invest or at least a long term loan.
2. Maturity and possession of the calmness to bear losses from investment decisions which turn out to be miscalculations in the end.
3. The number of knowledgeable and saavy investors you have as close friends in a network. This forum may serve that purpose for you if you don't yet have such network
4. Appetite for corporate news from and about companies quoted on NSE. This forum can also be of great help on that.
5. Practical experience of buying and selling of stocks like with every other business. It took some of us you see here above 10 years to reach the level from which we all contribute to this very thread you are reading.
6. Knowledge of the history of as many individual stocks as you can. This market is a cycle. Most trends in it are periodic repetitions.
6. A knowledge of extraneous factors that affect the market in general. For example; the foreign reserve and oil price.

In all you must be a very voracious reader of different news about the economy and individual companies.
However, as a beginner the stocks already listed for you are safe enough sanctuaries and reasonable guarantees of your sought 20℅ profit or above per annum.

Follow this thread and your learning time will be shorter than those of us who learned bitterly by induction.
