Valid points but nobody knows. We are just guessing. My concern is the reasons for denials are so generic. How does one work on it in the next application ? No one knows the reasons for the refusal. I have been refused before but reasons were highlighted and it further explained during d next application and I was granted. That's my concern and I am not bitter.

It's well bro. Don't be surprised you apply next time and you are issued the VISA without much questions once all your details check out. We see things differently and so do VOs. Am so touched about your interview. This should be my 11th post on nairaland since 2007 and most of it on your interview. Don't give up on the USA.

U need to go read up what makes their so-called ties as per section 214b before making contributions in a place like this. In case u don't know, professionalism is one of it and what makes up professionalism.

oh god not again! since when did working in your educational field become a criterion for obtaining a visa to take your family on a vacation? was he applying for a work visa. You all should stop with all the unnecessary inferring on why he was denied. the fact is the if the US embassy is really thorough on investigating applications , they would know a genuine application when they see one regardless of whether the applicant has seen the four walls of a university or not

little wonder why they were selling wedding and engagement rings by the embassy.

Are u married or engaged question showed they are weak already under family. Are they going to visit a family member? If yes the Visa Officer weighed their current job (Job Security) and School/Professional. But the painful part is that people ignore School/Professional because of their Work and Salaries. is your work even related to your degree? Is your degree a big tie? They wouldn't ask u during interview what u studied or university u went to but the Visa Officer do weigh that on every body. An agric bsc holder working in the bank wasn't given visa until she further more on her job related course. Even though she has being to d Uk so many times.

they were going to attend a wedding of a family friend besides nothing was asked about the degree they obtained or other documentary evidence. The VO initially thought they were a couple until they told her they were twins.

Thanks bro....I am not looking at that anymore. I will take my family to to some else for now
Any future US visa application will be through employer.
Sorry about your denial. But I would point something out here for you..... applying through your employer has zilch to do with future approvals or denials. As in...zero, nada. Your employers cannot secure you future visa apprOvals. Even people with approved H visa petition from the USCIS get denied by the consulate. You have to qualify for a visa on your own and based on merit and not through your employers.

It would be best to try for a Canadian visa, like some people said and then try applying for a US visa again. But again, going through an employer guarantees nothing. #JustSaying

they don't ask Why? Everybody will make changes instantly on it after the interview. 2.(Professionalism) is also considered too it's very wide. Some prove Professionalism during interview (Linda Ikeji told the Visa Officer I own the biggest blog in Africa) grin the man confirm through Google while some on form (professional degree). 3 aspects must sha pran pran

like I read here Visa Officer said Conference and Students Visa are being given more screening compared to just a tourist.

Weigh yourself under School.are u strong under that

Work: do u have side job? (Students dey run blogs) If uno get ain't Problem dem go weigh your school tie

Professional: can u prove on your form or do during interview how professional u are even being a student students they clear VO especially conference related on how it is related to their field or how helpful it is

Family: if you are young single dude. Is your immediate family there?.
Read from all pages 1,2,3 to see how people scattered Visa Officer on conference. It helps in building confidence also without flopping. but first checkmate yourself on all 4 factors and see if u qualify under 3.

are you really serious that it's not mandatory for females to fill educational qualification while it's mandatory for males?

this feels so wrong.. where are the feminists when you need them

@seyewest I also had this issue. The section for filling in my previous educational background didn't appear on any of the two DS-160 forms I filled. I called the Embassy's customer care and they couldn't do anything. They said it was beyond their jurisdiction and I should fill only what I saw on the form. So I never filled previous educational history because that section wasn't in my DS-160

Both interviews were successful thank God.

on your last interview the VO took u back to which university do u attend under School Tie (university u attended/attending presently plays a big role people no go gree) do u have change in circumstance under it. wink if your course studied/the university ranking is weak *school ranking* u can have ur masters done at one of the A'list university or get Professional degree

He asked about do u have a child under family ties you told him u are a single mother(with LPR Sister) that's Being single with immediate family! Any change in circumstance under that?.

He asked how many workers u have to get the clear view of how established u are under Work tie you told him 1 sales rep(any new sales reps? or have u included more duties like making bags and shoes for sale as per boutique) It's only a nice visa officer that do ask "u where here so so time any changes".

Note: don't sideline your sister as change in circumstance under family(they know who is still in US) your old form will surely be reviewed (mighty IFA)

A true tourist won't be worked up by a visa refusal. He will take his money elsewhere. #JustSaying

he can take his money elsewhere, but it's his prerogative to get worked up or not, when he paid non refundable visa fees, had invested time (Sebi you people always say we should read from part 1-3,it costs time) and emotions.

it's OK to keep saying its a privilege and a not right, but don't castigate people on how they choose to feel.

even life itself is a privilege, people die everyday for no just cause, and yet we don't go about being happy about it just cos life is a privilege.

even in every business transaction, you do your due diligence, hope for the best, but at the same time, you have the worst case scenario at the back of your mind.

if the worst happens, even after considering the worst, you don't necessary have to feel good about it.

they don't check bank statement on conference bro! Only if u are to spend much on/for the said trip

When questions like what do u do comes up let him know ur side work (clear him here on your customers/duties/workers) , and also school wat ur studying when Will u be done with school ( he might ask other questions to know how the 2 doesn't disturb themselves if u want to present yourself as Student and Job

Is the conference related to your current job/Course
They deny some student because thier school ain't sponsoring (depend on the VO view of student going for conference) as a self employed, how will the conference help your business? Is it related to your business? How did u come about the conference? (This is the areas people do flop on conference)

It's light when u have a family that's not immediate though. But since u have someone, Family tie is automatically weak if u are also "single" in between. Pressure falls back on how u have impressed him on Work School Professional (because the 4th Family is weak) unless u are married with children

Don't keep your job aside to avoid denied under Work "No job" since u have its a tie. Once u are 24/25years above they weigh u on work. 23years below Students can still get on what does your parents do?

Who is sponsoring? Email of the sponsor gives the VO clear view on sponsor. If its the hotel fill in their email. If it's your school fill the email(questions on how many of you are going from your school will surely come up).

If u ain't including your uncle! Them dey later catch people ooo for example. When an applicant end up filling family(uncle) as point of contact at the port of entry (but u said u no get pesin) grin so be careful

Go along with all the conference related documents u have

Hi all, I love this thread because of the valueble help and info.

I work in the reconciliation Dept of the DPR. I have never gone to the USA and I'm not married yet. A friend who lives in Charlotte,North Carolina is inviting me to the USA and I'm 32 years. Please what are my chances on getting a tourist visa to the USA successfully. The only ties I have are my landed properties and my job(i love my job)I have only traveled to Saudi Arabia (for a job) and two countries in Europe(for on the job training).

Hoping to hear from the gurus.

My dear just go to the interview and Do your thing, make sure you fill your form well and say it as it is, I was single too when I started travelling the world, my only tie then was my job, I didn't even have any landed property.

Be bold and confident when answering your questions during interview and show them your worth. if you get the visa fine, if you don't it's not a do or die affair, instead shift base to where your money is welcome becos as far as am concerned, it's your money you want to spend to add to their country's economy.

All the best.
