But, contextually, I don't see how your question relates to my comment, given that your portion of the world was probably colonized by the English folks both politically and culturally. Where I disagree is the idea that Ikwerre became Igboid speaking because of interactions With Ndiigbo.

I disagree with that, because Ikwerre people who promote such theory always seem to subtly suggest that Igbo people forced our language on their hitherto Bini speaking ancestors.
But nothing can be farther from the truth than that theory, as we all know that there was never an Igbo empire pre colonial era, that would have enforced such a language switch.
Also, these same Group of Ikwerres suggest that it was during the Eastern region arrangement that lasted from 1939 to 1966 that Ndiigbo forced down the Igboid language on them, but we know this is not true, because there are myriads of pre 1939 colonial documents that clearly shows that Ikwerres were already speaking Igboid language before the first Caucasian set foot on African soil.

The most plausible explanation is that Ikwerre people were originally Bini or non Igbo people, who suffered from self inflicted inferiority complex, admired the beautiful language of Ndiigbo with awe, culminating in their ancestors dropping their former languages, for Igbo language of their neighbors.
These Ikwerre ancestors corrupted the originally pure Igbo language they borrowed from Ndiigbo , into the impurity called Ikwerre language they speak today.

I have a friend from Agbor, his name is typical Igbo names, but he would tell you straight away that he isn't Igbo, and if you dare argue it with him, he gets angry and ruffled.

It's the default settings of Ika people to be anti Igbo.
