This so-called clamour for reform is clearly a veiled, indirect defence of Kemi. That's why it can't hold water. Seriously.

The only reform is to scrap the NYSC altogether, and even then, this occasion of Kemi's criminal action is the worst period to advance such a cause.

Lol. Did you go through the article at all? I clearly posited that she must face the law and prosecuted if found guilty.

I'm only making a case for our brothers and sisters abroad. For instance, I had a Fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania last year.
I met a Nigerian American(born and brought up in USA) who has worked with NASA and Microsoft. He has only been to Nigeria once but I can tell you he is passionate about the country like everyone of us here.

Now, he finished university at the age of 20 and he got a top job immediately as he graduated cum laude.
He has worked for over 10years in U.S and he plans moving to Nigeria soon to help push the frontiers of sustainable engineering.
Imagine this scenario now, he is in his 30s but wants to move to Nigeria(not for the money but the desire to make impact). What if at the age of 36, there is an opening for a staff in the Ministry of Science and Technology, then, he decides to apply but he is strucked out due to the fact that he did not participate in NYSC?

Is that fair on him?

I equally don't want Nigeria to experience more brain drain. It's affecting us. I have no business with the Minister - I'm more concerned about Nigeria and its growth.

There should be a synergy between those in the country and abroad. The same way Musa synergize with Iwobi in our national team.
Nigeria is fair to its citizens who resides abroad in terms of giving them appointment and calling on them to come home n contribute their quota. The case of kemi if its true is pure criminality

The article as seen above totally condemned the alleged forgery by Mrs Kemi Adeosun. The article also posited that the Minister must face the law. Nevertheless, the article opined that young bright minds of Nigerian ancestry who were unfortunately born and brought up abroad but are desirous of working for a better Nigeria should not be alienated from contributing to our national development due to their lack of participation in NYSC.

We should seek to integrate our administrative and technological wiz kids the same way we brought Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, Carl Ikeme and co to our fold.

Nigeria needs its best brains to return to the country now. We've suffered a lot from brain drain.
Are you saying NYSC doesn't allow graduates from foreign universities to serve?

Hmmmm, it seems you and many other have not read the story properly.

She is accused of having forged her exemption certificate which we all know she rightly qualifies for.

edit: my apologies just read your post again.
Anyone that graduated before his/her 30th birthday is not qualified for exemption. So, she is not qualified for exemption.

KEMI ADEOSUN'S ALLEGED NYSC CERTIFICATE SCANDAL : A BIGGER PICTURE TO IT.

Kemi Adeosun was born, bred and brought up in the United Kingdom. She spent the first 30years of her life there. She equally had all her education in the U.K and hatched her career there, also. For clarity purposes, I understand and fully support the general opinion that she must face the law - she should never have forged it, that's criminal and totally unacceptable (albeit if the facts provided by Premium Times are totally correct).

Nevertheless, on a general note, we must also be fair to Nigerians in diaspora(those born and brought up there and perhaps to equally those who moved there as young chaps with their families in search of greener pasture). Economic and other challenges have forced many Nigerians outside of Nigeria despite the love they have for their country. Most of them got married abroad and gave birth to children who are as well very passionate about Nigeria and its development. For instance, a bright young boy born to Nigerian parents who grew up in California - graduated from Stanford and Harvard then got a Job with the United Nations. He rose through the ranks after over 15years of service. Then, at the age of 40, he plans to return to Nigeria with a view to contribute his own quota to Nigeria's development. What will be his fate having not participated in NYSC ab initio and he is over 30 years of age? Remember, he never chose to be born outside of Nigeria or live/study outside of the country.

I believe for we to attain greater heights in Nigeria, we will need our brothers and sisters making waves in other countries. We should not strike them out totally via NYSC.

While I firmly believe that Kemi Adeosun should be prosecuted if found guilty of all the allegations, we must equally look at the bigger picture here - bright young minds of Nigerian ancestry who could not serve in the NYSC must not be alienated from nation building and national development.

The current Nigerian super eagles team is made of many players who were born to a Nigerian father by "foreign" mothers. Hence, they possess dual citizenship. Consequently, they've spent the most part of their lives abroad. Yet, they still proudly wear the green and white jersey - giving their all to their fatherland.

Today, we are always proud of Anthony Joshua, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, Troost Ekong, Carl Ikeme et cetera. In fact, we are very quick and proud to link the likes of Adesanmi Mbappe, Dele Alli, Alaba(Bayern Munich player), and so many others to Nigeria because they are of Nigerian ancestry.

What of other Nigerian geniuses making waves in NASA, World Bank, United Nations, Boeing, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple,Google, Deloitte and the likes that we will need their expertise/experience in our NNPC, Ajaokuta, Nigerian Army, political offices, technological hubs and the likes in the future or even as urgent as now?

In view of all these, I posit that Kemi Adeosun should face the law but we must not alienate people of Nigerian ancestry from our public service who for one reason or the other could not make up the NYSC scheme - which itself needs to be reformed.

Nigeria needs all its best brains to be in Nigeria, now! Nothing should be a roadblock or a bottleneck.

The Senators, if the news report by PT is true, are all accomplices.

On the other hand, most children of Nigerian political class don't take really take part in NYSC. All our Governors and Senators children largely school abroad and they don't ever fully take part in NYSC.

NYSC is mostly felt by the poor and not too influential Nigerians.

They don't bro, during orientation while we were under the sun they are given special treatments and finally been posted to the ministry where they can come when it suits.

With all due respect, these are silly excuses. Both you and the article.

In Nigeria if you want to work in the public sector having an NYSC is a requirement just like in most other countries where you require a work permit to work. My point is anyone abroad who wishes to work in Nigeria public sector should meet the requirement period. There is exemption certificate which she could have gotten easily. Why did she choose the "Oluwole" optoion

I've been saying this for years. We are all the same. Corruption is a way of life in Nigeria. It's not a question of our leaders. Those leaders did not come from another planet. They are all products of the Nigerian system where corruption is seen as the norm.
Imagine a woman that found $10,000 at the airport and she returned the money, instead of people to commend her for her honesty, many Nigerian folks were calling her mumu. Yet we say it's only our leaders that are corrupt

Truth is human beings generally are flawed and tend towards evil all the time.

But the difference between living in a developed country and living in Nigeria is that their laws are meant for everyone and they are enforced irrespective of your social or political status.

But in Nigeria, we have laws but they only exist on paper. Everybody does as they like and its only when they want to make a scapegoat of a poor man that the law is pulled out.

speaking as someone from the diaspora too,let me make it clear ,if you so loved your country, you can take out 1 years of your busy time to serve the country you so love.you only love it when you stand to profit from it.the law is clear before you can hold any job in Nigeria ,it is mandatory that you must have undergone the one year NYSC. except you are coming as a national of another country in which case you are not entitled to hold government post .the woman should face the music and all her action must be looked at to be sure she isn't a foreign agent working to undermine Nigerian interest .

There are jobs she could have taken without requiring NYSC....e.g starting her own business. Forging certificate to displace a locally born and bred Nigerian to become a minister is unfair there are laws.......that must be obeyed!
Must she contribute her quota to nation building by first committing a crime?

Who said a country with over 180 million people needed her quota??....as a matter of fact...UK with lesser population needs her more.
As said earlier her and her blackmailers must all go to jail. After all this is the self acclaimed incorruptible govt whose party hired people like thief chief of Edo state Adams Oshiomh-OLE and now certificate forger Kemi Adeosun....
Why hasn't she resigned?...wasn't she born and bred in the UK?...a UK minister would have long retired.

America or UK will not change their laws for citizens born abroad to reap where he/she did not sow, if Nigeria was important to her parent they would have considered giving birth or schooling her in Nigeria....if the laws must be changed it should be changed because the unifying purpose of NYSC has failed, rather it breeds deaths to Southern NYSC service men & women in the North, not to exempt Nigerians born or schooled abroad.....

God bless Nigeria.

The issue is never about studying abroad, rather the issue is on forgery. She doesn't need to do that if it's true. Simple!
don't mind them always looking for ways to justify crime ,a guy impregnated a girl,I told him he hasn't done anything wrong that' the guy in question is more than 18,he complicated his life by luring the girl to one useless hospital for abortion ,in d process the girl died,Nigerians love to complicate simple issue, impregnating d girl wasn't d issue, but in court d guy was charged for murder, manslaughter and felony, cuz her dad was a big lawyer in Benin, simple thing has become complicated cuz of shame, greed,u can't try this in China, once u are caught in forgery, corruption just expect to face d hanger man

He can apply for exemption and be granted, my colleague in the office applied and was granted.

The NYSC act stipulates that only those that graduated after the age of 30 are eligible for exemption letter.

How did he achieve his?

If they love the country, sacrificing one year for Nigeria shouldn't be a problem. Those that served aren't fools.

Go and read the NYSC act. And besides she is not the only Nigerian that studied abroad.
there are good jobs abroad ,leave the jobs for those who have all d requirement and stop beating corners,is she the only one that studied accounting,or maybe she discovered accounting, can u try this in China, I have rejected so many jobs cuz I didn't meet the full requirements and was not prepared to beat corners, what's so special studying abroad,we are guilded by rules, there is no justification to crime
