In a normal clime, once it is discovered and proven she forged a certificate, she would have resigned, that would have been the honourable path to two.

Bros I struggle to see what point you are making here. No one is alienating or trying to alienate Nigerians who were born, brought up and educated abroad. However the law is the law and the law (until changed) states it clearly that if you are below 30 and wish to work in or serve the country in some capacity whether elected or appointed, you are required to serve with the NYSC for just 1 year.

I served in the NYSC for 1 year. During my service year, I had several batch mates who schooled abroad but came back to serve. There was a babe I remember quite well whose father was a Senator from the SE during the 2nd republic and who works in Goldman Sachs (NY, LA and London when she came to serve) but she took time out to serve. I knew several girls and guys who did same but schooled abroad, some were born there, some were born here, it doesn't matter, the law is the law. If you are above 30 as she was, just obtain an exemption certificate, they are not hard to get, just apply with the proper supporting documents and it will be given to you.

If it is true she is guilty of forgery, it is a big shame not just on her but on all of us as Nigerians in the eyes of the world. Look it's bad enough we all know for sure the President's WAEC result was a hatchet job and till date he's yet to produce his real result but to have this is simply unfair on Nigerians regardless of ethnicity and religion. Take note that why this is grevious is because of the platform on which this admin campaigned vigorously. You can't fight corrupt and yourself be using forged certificates. It just doesn't add up.

AmbodOfLASU:

The article as seen above totally condemned the alleged forgery by Mrs Kemi Adeosun. The article also posited that the Minister must face the law. Nevertheless, the article opined that young bright minds of Nigerian ancestry who were unfortunately born and brought up abroad but are desirous of working for a better Nigeria should not be alienated from contributing to our national development due to their lack of participation in NYSC.

We should seek to integrate our administrative and technological wiz kids the same way we brought Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, Carl Ikeme and co to our fold.

Nigeria needs its best brains to return to the country now. We've suffered a lot from brain drain.

I didn't go back to Nigeria for NYSC. If I come back in the next world, I still will not do it. It has never in any way contributed nor slowed my progress in life. It is a big deal to someone who cares.

There are many ways to contribute to the growth of the nation without being an employee of the government. Many who did the NYSC may end up not benefiting from FGN in their lifetime.

Forgery? That's a NO NO.

Brilliant bro.

However, the NYSC Act stipulates that only those who graduated after the age of 30 are eligible for the exemption letter. In this case, Kemi is not eligible for an exemption letter.

Many young Nigerians abroad make that decision to return home quite too late when they are already above 30.

I also know of a girl who served in Borno state with an eye withness account of killings of corpers in the state. If we all had the choice, would any of us have gone for it? While not supporting the supposed actions of the minister, but the NYSC sheme is just a waste of time and resources. On second thought, why are we so quick on waving the NYSC barrier on sportsmen than it's easier for us when it comes to great minds with more national interest at heart?

The issue I have is with the forgery aspect. I sympathize with her in the sense that as a 22 year old, she probably had know idea what the future entailed for her nor that it would lead to Nigeria. I am similar to Mrs Adeosun, as I was born and bred in in UK, all my education from nursery to higher institution took place in UK however I did my NYSC, regardless it is rare to see Nigerians like us (born and raised abroad) complete the programme.

While I firmly believe that Kemi Adeosun should be prosecuted if found guilty of all the allegations .....
The senators that made her scale through the screening when they know what the law stipulates about that should also be fired alongside the Minister....
But at this point in time, the people who are only good in wailing have forgotten that she was actually screened for days by their corrupt masters.
Anyways, first things first, we are hoping to hear from the minister's side.
There are two sides to every story.

KEMI ADEOSUN'S ALLEGED NYSC CERTIFICATE SCANDAL : A BIGGER PICTURE TO IT.

Kemi Adeosun was born, bred and brought up in the United Kingdom. She spent the first 30years of her life there. She equally had all her education in the U.K and hatched her career there, also. For clarity purposes, I understand and fully support the general opinion that she must face the law - she should never have forged it, that's criminal and totally unacceptable (albeit if the facts provided by Premium Times are totally correct).

Nevertheless, on a general note, we must also be fair to Nigerians in diaspora(those born and brought up there and perhaps to equally those who moved there as young chaps with their families in search of greener pasture). Economic and other challenges have forced many Nigerians outside of Nigeria despite the love they have for their country. Most of them got married abroad and gave birth to children who are as well very passionate about Nigeria and its development. For instance, a bright young boy born to Nigerian parents who grew up in California - graduated from Stanford and Harvard then got a Job with the United Nations. He rose through the ranks after over 15years of service. Then, at the age of 40, he plans to return to Nigeria with a view to contribute his own quota to Nigeria's development. What will be his fate having not participated in NYSC ab initio and he is over 30 years of age? Remember, he never chose to be born outside of Nigeria or live/study outside of the country.

I believe for we to attain greater heights in Nigeria, we will need our brothers and sisters making waves in other countries. We should not strike them out totally via NYSC.

While I firmly believe that Kemi Adeosun should be prosecuted if found guilty of all the allegations, we must equally look at the bigger picture here - bright young minds of Nigerian ancestry who could not serve in the NYSC must not be alienated from nation building and national development.

The current Nigerian super eagles team is made of many players who were born to a Nigerian father by "foreign" mothers. Hence, they possess dual citizenship. Consequently, they've spent the most part of their lives abroad. Yet, they still proudly wear the green and white jersey - giving their all to their fatherland.

Today, we are always proud of Anthony Joshua, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, Troost Ekong, Carl Ikeme et cetera. In fact, we are very quick and proud to link the likes of Adesanmi Mbappe, Dele Alli, Alaba(Bayern Munich player), and so many others to Nigeria because they are of Nigerian ancestry.

What of other Nigerian geniuses making waves in NASA, World Bank, United Nations, Boeing, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple,Google, Deloitte and the likes that we will need their expertise/experience in our NNPC, Ajaokuta, Nigerian Army, political offices, technological hubs and the likes in the future or even as urgent as now?

In view of all these, I posit that Kemi Adeosun should face the law but we must not alienate people of Nigerian ancestry from our public service who for one reason or the other could not make up the NYSC scheme - which itself needs to be reformed.

Nigeria needs all its best brains to be in Nigeria, now! Nothing should be a roadblock or a bottleneck.

God bless Nigeria.

Do we need to keep repeating ourselves?

This should be investigated in-depth.

If she's found guilty she should be given a lengthy jail term.

All the senators that were aware of her forgery but still cleared her for blackmail purposes should be charged to court and jailed too.

That's how to run a country. A prosperous country.

Those Nigerians that studied oversees can be exempted from NYSC only if they've lived most of their lives abroad. My opinion.

There is no point of forging a document, if she did not perform NYSC she could have gotten her exemption letter which can also be issued by the same body.As you have said above, all the Senators that screened her to fit for the position should also be jailed for lack of in-depth review which shows that they are incompetents.

If the allegation is true, she should be sacked and prosecuted. I really can't think of a valid reason why she had to forge the exemption certificate. The NYSC act to the best of my knowledge doesn't make it compulsory for Nigerians that studied outside of the country to come back and serve participate immediately after their tertiary education. They can serve anytime they come back in as much as they are within the service age. If not, they simply apply for the exemption certificate. All she should have done was apply for the exemption certificate. Why forge what you can get legitimately? I really don't understand.

Let me just wait for her to respond because this could be another fake news from PremiumTimesng.

The law says if u graduate before 30years, u must serve. If u decide to come and serve when u r 45years,fine but so long as u were under 30 when u graduated, u must serve. No exemptions. Exemptions are only for people who graduated after they turned 30

This OP is just being sentimental

So because someone spent his whole life abroad we should treat him/her like he's untouchable

If the place they were staying is favourable to them let them stay there

Instead of coming here to take the little jobs available to the hopeless ones and getting huge money

What's wrong with you people?

Even Iwobi and others Wey u dey talk, Na because Dem no fit see England shirt

If Alli sef be like dem, he for join Eagles

Just check, most of those who decide to play for Nigeria are those who don't have a future in their national career with them.

She should explain herself first and stop finding flimsy excuses.

Countries like Egypt, Israel and Korea have compulsory military service, as in military oooo not like our cut and join nysc ooooo. Doesn't matter whether you are born abroad or not.

Salah was pressed to come do military service for Egypt, presently Kí of South Korea has a case to answer for military service. It's like our people don't read at all or try to find out what goes on in other parts of the world.

what exactly is the op's opinion. So been born abroad deserves some special form of compensation/treatment or what?
