But Boko Haram doesn’t control any territory, and Nigeria isn’t that large a country, if a super Tucano takes off from any of the NAF bases in the NE theatre it can hit any BH camp within our borders with pin point accuracy, More effective than an fast jet we can get our hands on.
They actually do in someway. They change location regularly after attack. The field howitzer, AA guns etc and they're being kept in camofluaged area to avoid detection by ISR platforms.

Once they carry out an attack, they have forest where they stay. That's what I meant by their controlled territory.

Whatever happened to the SSV from PT-PAL? Is it a separate deal for an LPD type vessel or has it been abandoned?

700 soldiers armed with only rifles! shocked
Do they learn anything at all? No gun nest for HMGs? No Mortars.
Gun trucks were available and machine guns but limited range when compared to the fire power brought in by BHT.
They have been firing from over 2km away with howitzer and others.

This tragedy began last year, when bhts overran bosso military camp in niger republic. They killed about 33 Nigerien troops and captured a treasure trove of arms to include upwards of 40 gun trucks, most mounted with Z-23-2&4 AAA. This has a higher caliber and a longer range then NA's standard mount.
They also captured Chinese apcs, 122mm artillery, mortars, RPGs and belts and boxes of ammo. Ironically, an improvised 90mm gun of Nigerian make attached to a tow truck was used to attack bosso.

I sounded the alarm then, that all these weapons were going to descend on some un unsuspecting NA unit in nigeria in no time.

Fast forward to the attack n jilii, we are now hearing of concealed howitzers and overwhelming gun truck firing.

Bro I strongly believe that that Bosso attack in Niger was a "set up".
Like a ruse or a smoke screen just to deliver all those ammo to Boko boys.

You too think about it again, all these ammo you mentioned how did BH captured them, with what weapons did they use in capturing them? How long was the battle ?

I learnt long time ago that things are not always as they appear.
I won't say more than this before someone here start calling me "anti French".

Look at that fully armored cockpit, damn this is legit the perfect COIN aircraft.

Yea, and I'm sure those 33 dead soldiers were in on the plan, please.
If ambushed, lots of soldiers will lose their nerves, the moment there is disarray within that unit, that battle is lot, being alert, always armed and organized is key, you lose that, you lose the battle

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by doziex: 4:04am On Jul 20, 2018
Yeah no set up here. I watched the bht tape of the attack. It was a full frontal assault on a battalion size nigerien camp with some Nigerian liaisons.
Those that stood and fought died a gruesome death. Most broke and ran for it. The munition of the base was captured in its entirety.

What if NAF headed some of our calls and purchased the Russian/ex Indian Air Force SU-30ks, that our oil rival Angola eventually purchased. They would have been able to strike a base like bosso at will and neutralize the captured weapons before they could cause further havoc.

18 of those sukhois were going for as little as 150 million US dollars. Just what NAF needed but GEJ and co were still partying themselves stupid in Abuja then.

Nothing stops PMB and co. To go to Russia and try to replicate the deal. But they think bhts would hand them a cheap and easy victory.

NO WAY

I have said this and I will repeat it till I die. Nigeria will lose this war unless we smarten up, bury our pride and ego, and hire A reputable, effective PMC to guide our defense establishment out of this current mess.

We have excellent quality troops and special forces, but what is the quality of their leadership. What is the quality of their equipment? What is the quality of the current civilian leadership executive and legislature?

It's time to get aggressive but do we have the capability without causing an external aggression on our neighbors. Bht operates mostly from Chad and we cannot always cover the border for now.

If we do like Isreal and attack Boko Haram settlement inside the Chadians territory, this will do us extremely well. At times, there are intelligence report of bht with military hardware but we cannot strike in the Chadians airspace without provoking them.

Look at Isreal, they'll come into your country and destroy any hardware capable of affecting their nation.

For our porous borders, trade be damned. We need to protect our nationals by any means necessary. No apologies. Mine the border in the difficult to man areas. Use escavators to dig border gun truck trap trenches like the camerounians have done.

The Mi-24 attack helicopter has a mine dispersal version. This will channel all traffic across the border to the legitimate crossing points.

About punishing anti Nigerian activity in chad or other neighbors , the more militarily capable nigeria is, the less the French or others can do about our actions

GSL likely to ink $102-mn contract with Nigerian Navy

“Nigeria floated a global tender and we have emerged as the lowest bidder but that itself is not sufficient,” Mital said. “So we have improved the other parameters such as the build period has been reduced to two and a half years. We have also completed the design and now time frame wise also we have improved over other shipyards.”
During his day-long visit, Ibas inspected Goa Shipyard’s facility to evaluate GSL’s capability to manufacture the landing ships-tank.”

Wrt fast jet aircrafts utility in coin is low.
Best option is low speed coin optimised aircrafts.

Other than operational advantage , the economical advantage is huge which actually helps to blunt the economical attrition enforced by insurgency.

War is kind of about economics wink
It is the single most important aspect which is often ignored by everybody.

If costs escalates beyond ones capability , u r forced to bargain and end up in peace talks. Most insurgency success is attributed to their ability to enforce economic attrition successfully.

U guys ordered targeting pods ?

I mentioned earlier M7's horrible decision to break the bank and buy 7 Sues costing like 5% of GDP. Everyone screamed themselves hoarse saying how he'd acquired deterrence over the Egyptians on the Nile issue;Ugandans bellowed how those FSBs would spearhead an invasion that would end up in Mombasa and other poo while real def observes laughed themselves silly!

I'm told only 3 are available for flight! Here's why: Su 30s have a FAC of roughly 70 mn$ and a yearly maintenance cost of 8 mn$,the 27s around 6 mn$,Tejas 3.2 mn$,J 17 2.2 MN and the Block 3 2.5 mn$. When you increase the sortie rate using them as ground attack ofc this figure rises exponentially. The UPDF Sues were seen once and once only in ground attack in the S Sudan war late 2013 and just as quickly were withdrawn.
The AT 802 costs 0.75 mn$ yearly and Super Tuc 1 mn. If you were an African defense chief what would you chose for COIN?
