Iwobi, Ola Aina, Iheanacho Et Al Ordered To Report To Camp Sept 3, Super Eagles Fly To Jeddah Sept 8

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Nigerian Federation have ordered the twenty-four players invited for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles to report to camp in Victoria on Monday, September 3.

It remains to be seen if that deadline can be met by all the players as a number of the invitees are expected to feature for their respective teams this coming Sunday.

Arsenal's Alex Iwobi is expected to be named in the traveling party to Cardiff, where the Gunners face the Welsh side in game week four in the Premier League on September 2, while Odion Ighalo's Changchun Yatai face Henan Jianye same day.

Chelsea loanee Ola Aina, Chievo's Joel Obi, Crotone's Simy and Udinese's Troost-Ekong also have commitments with their Italian clubs on Sunday, and the same applies to Samuel Kalu (Bordeaux), John Ogu (Hapoel Beer Sheva) and Chidozie Awaziem (Porto).

The Super Eagles players are expected to depart directly from Seychelles to Saudi Arabia on Saturday, September 8 for the proposed international friendly against Saudi Arabia which is scheduled to hold in Jeddah.

The players will fly back to their respective clubs from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, September 12.

Ikeme Joins Eagles’ Crew After Seychelles Match

Retired international goalkeeper, Carl Onuoha Ikeme has been confirmed as a member of the Super Eagles’ coaching crew, but he will not start work with the team until after next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles.

This much was confirmed at the weekend by Eagles technical adviser, Genot Rohr, who said Ikeme will soon resume work as one of the team’s goalkeepers’ trainers.

However, Rohr said Ikeme will not be with the Eagles for their September 7 match against Seychelles, because the 10-hour flight from his base in England to the venue in Victoria would be too much for the leukaemia survivor.

Rohr, though, stated categorically that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers of England shot-stopper will join the Eagles’ crew for subsequent matches, as the Franco-German tactician

Aside training the Eagles’ keepers, Rohr further said Ikeme, who recently announced his retirement from the round leather game, will also help to monitor and discover young Nigerian goal minders.

Rohr added that he wants the 32-year-old Wolves’ former number one goalie to help the Eagles find young goalies that will be of future help to Nigeria win global titles.

Ikeme spent his entire career at Wolverhampton, making 207 appearances across all competitions before hanging his gloves, after recovering from acute leukaemia, which made him to be in hospital for almost a year.

He was supposed to be the Eagles number one goalkeeper at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, but he could not make the trip due to the blood cancer sickness.

Now that Ikeme has overcome the health battle, Rohr is positioning him for a role in the national team, following an earlier declaration by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that the England-born star will not be discarded in retirement.

Rohr expatiated: “Our plan is to have him around for the game against Seychelles but that is not going to be possible because of the long hours of travelling down from England to Seychelles but we hope to have him with us in subsequent games.

“You know he is still recovering from his sickness and it will not be ideal for him to go through long hours of travelling now.

“I have already discussed with the NFF about having him with us as part of the backroom staff and it is something that they have really considered.

“It is important to have a good plan for him after football. We are monitoring some young goalkeepers who will be useful for the team in future.

“There is one who is only 15 years old that Carl Ikeme our former goalkeeper has recommended to us and is monitoring him as well.

“We trust his judgement because he knows the quality we want and hopefully, we will get to see these young goalkeepers take over from the present ones in future.”

Ighalo is already 29. There is no way, he is going to reach 80 caps.

Once Ighalo starts scoring the goals, then we can change the narrative. For now, he has simply not produced.

Giroud is miles ahead of him.

What narrative? You are the one who brought up Giroud and the fact is that 5 goals in 26 games was enough to continue getting invited by France but over here in 49th ranked Nigeria we are doing shakara.

You are saying Ighalo won't reach 80 caps but Giroud wouldn't have come close to that number if some of you were French grin

The Super Eagles will resume their quest to be at the Cameroun 2019 African Nations Cup when they take on Seychelles in their second match of the qualifying series on September 7. According to the coach of the team, which had a disappointing campaign at the Russia 2018 World Cup, Nigeria is in the process of building a strong team to avoid further disappointments in international championships. Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Friday, Rohr enumerated his plans for the team, including how he wants to make the Super Eagles strong again. CHRISTIAN OKPARA was there.
Nigeria was not among the teams tipped to reach the last stages of the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Russia. Although the Super Eagles were the first African team to qualify for the World Cup, they were deemed too immature and lacking in depth to challenge the likes of Germany, Spain, Argentina, England, France, Belgium and Croatia at the global fiesta.

But after the championship, many pundits saw the Eagles as a team for the future because of the exciting young players in the squad. There was the belief in some quarters that the World Cup came too soon for Gernot Rohr’s team, which with only two months to the competition still had no trusted replacement for goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, who was forced out of the game by illness.

And so when the team came close to beating Argentina to the second round ticket in their last group game in St. Petersburg, it was generally believed that the Super Eagles had a solid base on which to build a strong team. Even at that, some pundits attributed Nigeria’s failure to make the round of 16 in Russia to hard luck, ‘biased’ officiating and naiveté, which was expected of a team rated as the youngest side in the competition.

And now that all that is over, how ready is the Super Eagles to reach the height predicted by followers of Nigerian football? One of the qualities many believe any side hoping to build a strong team must have is players in big clubs and the biggest club competitions in the world.Apart from Chelsea’s Victor Moses, who has retired from the national team, and Alex Iwobi at Arsenal, no Nigerian player is active in any of the big clubs in the world. Pundits point out that when Nigeria had players in almost all the big European clubs, including AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Ajax and Paris St. Germaine, the Super Eagles were rated as the fifth best team in the world. But Rohr is not bothered by the lack of big name players in his squad.

At the weekend in Lagos, Rohr said he has started what he described as the journey to making the Super Eagles a truly great team again.“It is true that we don’t have players in Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and such other big clubs, but we have young talented players, who will grow into big stars with time. We hope soon they will move to these clubs. We are working for the future and we cannot be the youngest team at the World Cup and still have players in big clubs. It is a gradual process,” he said.

He added that Nigerian players have already started moving up. “Now, we have a player who has moved from Nantes to Porto, another has moved from Perm in Russia to Lokomotiv Moscow. With time more will join bigger clubs,” he said.He revealed that he rejected overtures from many other countries to stick with the Super Eagles because he saw in the squad a future world champion.

Unlike other foreign coaches before him, Rohr who came under scrutiny by victory-mad Nigerians for failing to take the Super Eagles to at least the second round, said, “I decided I want to continue working here in Nigeria. I like the team we have here and the NFF has made the environment very conducive for me, so I don’t see any reason why I should leave now.

“I hope this team will be better in future and it is important to continue the good work we started.”Rohr’s first major task is to qualify Nigeria for the Cameroun 2019 African Nations Cup from a group where the Super Eagles are currently placed third. The Super Eagles lost their first match at home to South Africa and must beat Seychelles next month away from home to resuscitate their hope of being in Cameroun. The Nations Cup is a competition in which Nigeria has failed to qualify for back-to-back editions and some pundits believe that the country should not only aspire to qualify for the competition, but should also aim at winning it. They believe he has the materials to achieve both targets.

During the unveiling of the squad for the qualifier against Seychelles at the weekend, Rohr gave a brief insight into the state of his squad, saying that he, alongside the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was working to ensure that the best available legs were ready for the tasks ahead. He said, “We tried to help some of our players find new clubs after the World Cup. We could not come back to Nigeria immediately because we have been working on programmes aimed at giving us a good team.

“Some people have criticised our performance in Russia, but I must say that I am proud of our team. Neutral analysts have commended our performance and predicted that we will do well in future competitions because of the average age of the players.”One of the routes Rohr has taken in building his new team is by exposing as many players as possible to international football through friendly matches. He revealed, “We want to play against Saudi Arabia on September 11 to try new players and also see some of the old players who are still relevant to our aspirations.

“Most of our players are changing clubs and we want to help them to settle down in their new environments.“Recently, we discussed with Charleroi of Belgium about Victor Osimhen and they have taken him on loan. We want all our players to be active in their clubs because that is the only way they will be match fit when we need them. We spend only three or four days with the players on average, which doesn’t give us the time to work on fitness and psychology, so we want the players to be active in their clubs.

“We are happy that Francis Uzoho has a new club in Elche of Spain and we hope playing regularly will help his reflexes.” Rohr regrets the crisis in Nigerian football that caused the league to be shut down for more than six weeks, saying it has denied him the opportunity to see the home-based players.Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the only home-based player in the national team because he was in the squad to the World Cup and also his club, Enyimba have been active in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“The league’s suspension is not good for the U-23 team and the CHAN squad, which are supposed to be preparing for their qualifiers. We hope the league will resume soon, but we have also spread our net to other countries.”He revealed that former Super Eagles number one goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme has started working for the team in Europe and will join the squad after the game against Seychelles.

“Ikeme is working on some young goalkeepers in England. He has identified one, who has all the qualities we need in a goalkeeper. “We are also looking at a young goalkeeper known as Sebastian in the Switzerland second division. For the game against Seychelles we have invited some young stars, Jamiu Collins, who plays in the German Bundesliga 2, and Semiu Ajayi of Rotterdam in the English Championship,” Rohr said.

With the rebuilding currently on-going in the Eagles, some of the older players may have played their last games for Nigeria. According to Rohr, some, like Odion Ighalo and Ogenyi Onazi are currently on the last chance salon and may not get another opportunity if they failed to prove in the next two games that they are still relevant in the team.

“I want to give Odion Ighalo the opportunity to prove that he can still score for Nigeria. After a bad World Cup, people expected me to drop him from the team, but since he is still active I want to see if he can do the job for us.“There are so many young strikers waiting in the wings, including Simi, who did not get enough chance to prove his worth in Russia.

“There are also Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Henry Onyekuru, who is on loan at Galatasaray. Onyekuru can play from the middle or from the wings. He can dribble and possesses amazing speed. “There is also Samuel Kalu, a young striker playing for Bordeaux, who under Thierry Henry will learn how to use his speed and dribbles to maximum effect.

Komekn is truly clueless about lots of things. Ovie Ejaria was part of our U-17 early days back in 2013 but the reason why he could not be picked is because his team called him back and also because he had an Exam to write. This is well documented yet he comes here making ignorant comments. His Lack of Information on some matters combined with his irritating selected amnesia is truly comedic. To such who deliberately chooses to ignore certain truths, then surely Integrity is far from him.

One question ❓ Do you personally know Oviemuno. Do your entire deduction is based on what you read in the media and you call it well documented.

That's not my position AT ALL.

How many English EPL academy directors, coaches and Managers do you know or speak with.

How many EPL training sessions both youth and First team have you attended.

How many English football teams have you worked for or are in association with

How many players do you know personally that play in the EPL and or of Nigerian origin

All you know is what you READ.

You simply know NOTHING but make a lot of noise underpinned with what you read.

4-2-3-1 will definitely return... I also feel 4-3-3 will be fine. But I also think 3-5-2 can still be utilized with two mobile and lethal forwards with a creative MF behind them as part of a midfield three flanked by wingbacks.

A good coach with vision would have figured out where Musa fits in earlier than Rohr did. Drop either of the ineffective two strikers for Musa, then bring in Onyekuru to fill the space created by Musa's departure from the Wings. What was the reason for taking two dead woods in Joel and Onazi to the world cup when u already have Etebo and Mikel? Who was chosen as a repp to injured Simon? A good coach would have repped injured Simon with a Kalu instead of packing those deadwoods in the name of midfielders.

I don't think we have imposing midfielders to play a 4-3-3 but I prefer a 4-2-3-1 with Etebo and Ndidi as defensive midfielders

3-5-2 would also limit us to two attackers which would shut out most of our best players

If Rohr is not ready to work with our best stars, he should be sacked. Same rubbish he did before finally inviting Onyekuru and Kalu after much pressure, is what he is still doing now with Ebere Eze and Ejaria. What business do Onazi and Joel Obi still have with the national team and what has Nwakali done to merit an invite ahead of those two? It is obvious Rohr aint here for our best interest. GBAM

What do you mean by "imposing"? Be more specific.

4-3-3 will see us utilise our best attacking talents in an even more lethal fashion as Wing forwards and Striker. It is a fine option for me and I believe we have the midfield talents to support that. But first explain what you mean by "imposing".

And yes, 3-5-2 will limit us to just two forwards but again that is just an option. I think 3-5-2 can come in when we are maybe trying to manage absentees or for tactical reasons.

Fact is with the rise of beautiful attacking talents in the team, we must remind ourselves that not all can be on the pitch at the same time. wink

I see you have a blinding hate for Rohr, how would you expect him to invite a new player (Nwakali) and partner him with two new players who have never played together before or had a game under the coach, at the same time ditching those he had been comfortable with

Carl Ikeme already suggesting players for the national team, a 15-year old at that.

Instead of Komekn to tell his boys to meet with relevant senior men of the team in England, he is here deceiving them that NFF will come and beg them. If they want to be part of the team, we have the likes of Ikeme who can put in a good word, even Balogun is now there for them if na shame dem dey shame to go meet Iwobi and Ndidi them wey be their mate.

Fact is with the rise of beautiful attacking talents in the team, we must remind ourselves that not all can be on the pitch at the same time. wink

A midfield three of Ndidi, Etebo and Nwakali would be run over by a decent team, We tried it against Croatia and England and it didn't go well, That's why we reverted to a 3-5-2 to overload the midfield and provide our forwards with passes

I see you have a blinding hate for Rohr, how would you expect him to invite a new player (Nwakali) and partner him with two new players who have never played together before or had a game under the coach, at the same time ditching those he had been comfortable with

Clear your eyes of hate and have a comprehensible view of things

Well, I read something worse when I was calling for Uzoho, Onyekuru and Kalu to be invited. It is hate today, tomorrow u go still join the train as all of una dun join Uzoho, Kalu and Onyekuru train kwa

Just know that no coach would partner three players who never played together or played for the coach in a game, that's the recipe for disaster

Unless you are playing Fifa grin

Against England we didn't play 4-3-3. We started out with 4-2-3-1 then reverted to 3-5-2.

Against Croatia we also played 4-2-3-1. Truth is we have not exactly tried 4-3-3 in its purest form for a while under Rohr now.

And against England, a midfield three of Mikel, Onazi and Joel were overrun and demystified but not a midfield three of Mikel, Etebo and Iwobi. That midfield three offered more dare, good mobility (provided mainly by Iwobi and Etebo), more fluidity, better creativity and decent stability.

A midfield three of Mikel, Ndidi and Etebo also held their own at the World cup to decent levels but a potential long term Midfield three of Ndidi, Etebo, K.Nwakali (or Ejaria/Eze) OR Ndidi, Etebo, Iwobi OR Ndidi, K.Nwakali, Iwobi has the Sparks to offer even more mobility, Vigor, and also will see creativity and fluidity strive. It, very much likely, has the potentials of becoming even better as our midfield generals mature. Stability will then keep growing as the midfield clicks game after game.

I believe we have the tools for a 4-3-3 akin "potentially" to Barca's Midfield three of Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta or Madrid's midfield three from 2017/2018 of Casemiro-Kroos-Modric.

In Ndidi, we have a player who can grow into the Busquets or Casemiro mold in our own 4-3-3 set up.
In K.Nwakali or even an Ovie Ejaria, we have a player who can function as a Xavi.
In Iwobi or Ebere Eze, the iniesta role is likely to be their office for us in such a set-up if ever applied.
Etebo can offer a Kante-like or Naby Keita-like role as seen in Chelsea's and Liverpool's Midfield three respectively.

This is my observation and I feel it is possible. We do have the ingredients. We just have to cook it right.

I think you are a little bit romantic with the Busqest's et al comparism

A midfield three with Iwobi will work extremely hard because Iwobi offers little defensively same with a midfield three with Nwakali

Croatia destroyed our midfield with 2 defensive midfielders how do you think we would fare with one defensive midfielder?

That's why 3-5-2 is our best formation despite Rohr's uncomfotability and insistence on playing a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation

What we lack in quality we make up in numbers grin

My bro I concede to you, but it’s actually a Nigerian problem. We just have our way of doing things.
komekn:

That names below completely answer your ❓

Jordan
Akpoguma
Uduokhai

Second phase Amaju sometimes doesn't understand that yoi don't count your chicks in public with a loud speaker before thay are hatched.

That mistake caused the English FA to put a lot if pressure on Tega. He was damned if he signed for Nigeria and damned if he did not. He simply chose a career decision that would bring him more value u see the circumstances.

He made assumption about Tega on the basis of Warri connection. Tega didn't confirm or agree. He wasn't in relationship with Tega to make those kind d of sweeping statements in the press that he did.

However, the German boys of Nigerian origin have made public statement showing a lack of interest.

We should not be waiting for the English FA to recognise our boys before we do. We should be in relationship with them well before they blow. That's what good scouting is about.

Oviemuno and Ademola were at the Nigerian U17 selection and trained showed thier potential. But somehow nothing came off it. I wonder why ❓

Now after what those boys experienced at the hands of NFF officials. And yes Egunje came into play. Do you think they will be jumping to respond to the call of Nigeria on the pages of newspapers.

They will need an official response and invitation. Without the requirement to show monetary appreciation.

The problem isn't the boys but the NFF and it's approach.

There is nothing romantic at all. I am only using those midfield models to explain to you the possibilities for ours based on the talents available and rising.

And nope... Croatia did not destroy Nigeria's Midfield. We all saw that game and saw how we limited the croatians through the middle. We reduced their effectiveness through the middle. Our midfield was definitely not overrun.

What you should notice about Iwobi is that he has started showing good improvememts in aspects of his defensive game. He is not as lazy as he was. He is stepping things up in that defensive aspect. He is still young too and will only get better.

K.Nwakali too shows good gameplay defensively (even better than Iwobi at this moment). He is a player already used to featuring as a deeplying playmaker and as a CM. And his development so far shows that he is getting good at marking and can position to cover passing channels of opponents. He is a lot more mobile too.

And again you make it look like we play Five midfielders in a 3-5-2... Or you don't know we also play 3 midfielders in a 3-5-2? In a 4-3-3 we play 3 MFs... Same number in a 3-5-2... Only difference is that the wingbacks can help crowd that middle and provide passing options for our 3MFs.

Believe me with the rise of our Wingers... 3-5-2 won't be our best bet going forward. It would only serve as one of our top tactical weapons. I see us returning to 4-2-3-1 and trying to maybe incorporate 4-3-3 along the line as the team keeps evolving.

We are entering an era where we will no longer rely on just quantity but actual quality. Give it time.. wink

@NFF letterheading hahaha

safarigirl:
which value does he have now? Which club has he even been loaned to? Dude has disappeared off the face of the earth. So much for decisions that will bring value

At second bolded, the other home-based players who were also at the U17 camp with them but did not make it, also wonder why they did not make it. It is the U17, players will get dropped and playing in England does not automatically make you better than someone who isn't there. Nobody gets an automatic spot just because they play in England

@ third bonded, they should sit down and keep waiting for official response and invitation. NFF has not attended to the likes of Dessers and Beyreuther that have declared on the pages of newspapers, it is your hit and miss English boys they should now be drafting letter for with a whole NFF letter-heading.

Guy, this your entitlement on behalf of English players is truly amusing grin grin
