Of course as to your BOLDED in epelumi42's response to me.

DEFINATIONS can only fall into those two categories. The difference is straight forward. Not BOTH DEFINATIONS can be an ABSOLUTE TRUTH at the same time.

Hence, which ever is the ILLUSION must FALL and FAIL in the end.

As family structures keep falling and failing just an example of the CRISIS OF THE MODERN WORLD as compared to the PATRIARCHAL.

A yardstick for measuring here can be FAMILY as to the functions of what ever definition of a DIGNIFIED WOMAN.

And then we may move to sexually transmitted diseases as the next yard stick and other yard sticks and being EMPIRICAL statistically.

epelumi42, AmazonTopaz

Family doesn't dignify a woman, if that's what you're insinuating. It still boils down to societal dictates. A woman must get a man, have children, serve her family. Therein lies her dignity. A woman dignifies herself with whatever yardstick she wants. Yet it is hard to escape the society's perspective when you misbehave. Quick to say your action was denigrating when it is they who decided what counts as dignity and denigration.

Ignoring the evident noncontextual, unnecessarily complicated sentences above, here's what I'd say: If you need me to describe the negative effects of patriarchy on the society, then we shouldn't be having this discussion.

Subjecting women under the authority of men gives the impression that women are incapable. That they have to rely on men to survive. Empowering women increases the world's workforce and gives women the chance to make something out of their lives without living under men's shadow.

If I may ask you, what makes men superior to women? Strength? Women have proven to be capable of handling streneous jobs. Sexual makeup? They bear the bulk of child birth. What exactly?

Forget USA. Let's talk about how we can eliminate chivalry and patriarchy from the African society.

grin ALL WILL BE ELIMINATED WITH TIME BELIEVE ME. ITS ALL A MATTER OF TIME.

Let me tell you the reason why in Richard Smiths words about AFRICANS.

What I find most amusing is why you have said we should FORGET U.S.A. It's their footsteps that is being followed? Or Are the not a GOOD ENOUGH MODEL?!

But any way kindly read the brutal words of Richard Smith, famous British guitarist, during an interview......

I have been asked many times what I think of Africans, here is what I think of Africans, without language and without taboos.

*They sell everything to the highest bidder, even the land. Then they poison themselves with everything that is edible.*

*I am not a racist because I do not believe for a single second that I am superior to a black man. The difference with them is that we think of our descendants, we are calculators, we protect our interests and we'll kill for that if need be*.

*We are not emotional, we have passed this stage. If the lion has pity on the gazelle, it is he who will die of hunger. They have lions at home, but they do not understand the laws of nature.*

*For everything, they confide in superstition and religion. The difference between the others and blacks is, while others reflect, blacks do not think, they do not use their intellectual capacity and very few blacks are analytical.*

*And when a few black people pierce through, we admit them to our side or eliminate them in one way or another, most often, with the hand of other blacks.*

*We brought them our gods and continuously invent fuzzy concepts to confuse them more.*

*In a hundred years, their descendants will be more slaves than they are now. They are already more unhappy than the generation of their parents, and they naively believe that numbers will be their strength.*

*Just watch how they drown at sea to come here. We conquered them with a few tens of ours and the active help of theirs.*

*We forced them to speak and write in our languages. We will control their descendants more than we control them right now.*

*Other people understood our game, they started to use the same technical knowledge as us to protect and dissuade, but the blacks did not understand anything.*

*I'm sorry to be so brutal in my franchise. Nothing personal, I'm just plain."*

You do realize that all these is a function of the average African man's mentality. Not necessarily how everyone thinks. But now you should know that Foreigners have a different idea of Africans and its people. Only a few that have actually visited can attest that Africa has its human resources and that being being blacks does not mean we're stupid. So, Bleep Richard Smith and his racist comments.

A patriarchal societal system dictates A CHASTE WOMAN among many other attributes as a woman of dignity.

How do you describe our current state in which women have been 'freed' from this box of CHASTITY by choosing to be PROMISCUOUS while accepting that as her own definition of a WOMAN OF DIGNITY.

Is it not sheer illusion that there has not been DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES societally?

I laughed at this. You know that if you remove society rules and religion, all you have is a bunch of "promiscuous" women who are just living their lives.

There's a reason the society has morality rules, but you can't expect all to follow it. When they refuse to, they should willingly bear the consequences. I aint going to judge no one for choosing a path of moralitu they deemed fit.

It's not funny when EMPIRICAL knowledge has shown that when CHASTITY being a norm during the Patriarchal system, the society suffered very less from SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES just to mention a demerit.

Infact the number of STDs before the sexual revolution was only 4 you can go and check this information out. But since afterwards there as been at least 24 and still counting.

Yes! People may choose to define there lives as the so wish. What we cannot run away from are CONSEQUENCES.

AND WHEN BUNCH OF PROMISCUOUS WOMEN JUST LIVING THEIR LIVES GET INFECTED BY STD THE SOCIETY IS NOT LEFT OUT, IT IS AFFECTED BY IT IN A MOST NEGATIVE WAY.

How does our society fare today as compared to yesterday with respect to an attribute of a WOMAN OF DIGNITY under patriarchal system called CHASTITY.

Have a great day too.

When I said women should be free... Free from the box that men have placed them in. The patriarchal nature of the society. That's what they need to be free from. Freedom in many sense isn't an illusion unless you wanna get all philosophical. People decide their notion of freedom.

The question is, how do you define the dignity of womanhood without falling back to what the society has defined or what you have formed in your head. Why can't we all decide our notion of morality especially women?
Freedom comes with challenges and responsibilities and to ask for one while downplaying the other is just selfish.

Can I be a feminist and expect that the woman I marry will be responsible (or at least accountable) for cooking?

Of course. I still think the subject of cooking and house chores should be the least of concerns. Seriously, if your wife comes home late and you arrive early, what's stopping you from cooking for her. We tend to make a mountain from unnecessary molehills.

Who even made cooking a Feminine role in the first place? Who said men can't be better cooks?

feminism is conflicting both in definition and practice. I have heard many definitions of feminism myself.

And I am sure if you define feminism, There would be those feminists that would disagree with your definition. For instance I can ask:

Can I be a feminist and expect that the woman I marry will be responsible (or at least accountable) for cooking?
As long as you expect ONLY the woman you marry, and not any other woman to be responsible for cooking. Then you are good to go,
Also depends on why you expect so

so your first sentence agrees there are feminists who would disagree with you which validates my point about the varying definitions.

on your second point, note that expecting his wife to cook does not:

(1) take away her power of choice
(2) preclude him from assisting her or from even being the sole cook

expecting his would-be-wife to cook is what it is: an expectation.

Seems u were personally pricked by my comment because ur response is totally off the marks. Who is threatened by the empowered woman? Go to my profile & see my post on Ngozi Okonjo Iweala & know that I honour excellence in womanhood. Note that Ngozi has a husband she loves & respects. U don't have to be a feminist to be mpowered.

No, my comment was precisely the kind of response that yours deserved. Insulting women because they choose to be empowered and feminist, and then pretending that you praise empowered women is exactly the kind of two-faced hypocrisy that I'm talking about. Do you think that if you asked Ngozi Okonjo whether she believes in the feminist ideology, she would disagree? All you're attempting to do is make a distinction without a difference. Feminists are not against loving and respecting your husbands, but they expect mutual love and respect back in equal measure. All of the insults that you rail on women, apply equally to men and highlights how they aren't any better or more important than women and they most certainly are not the pride of womanhood.

Feminism of equal rights without equal responsibilities is both the height of stupidity and alter selfishness. Also what happens when/if for some reasons, the wife becomes incapacitated to fulfill her own part of the financial responsibilities/ bargain since the marriage is hinged on that or the man wakes up to decide he is no longer capable of meeting the contract demands after humbly enjoying the lady over time? Men readily take the responsibility of providing and taking care of their wives for the average African women to now feel men are useless or they are exonerated from reciprocating and complementing the man for their now found empowerment is devilishly stingy. Again most feminist are stingy irresponsible financially advantaged or very physically ugly or ugly minded women who can't make a man dick stand anyway deceiving the others . But then when you are old enough and jumping from one prayer house to another for husband you will become sensible. Even the not so rich guys are sweating away just to make life comfortable for their partner. Do you know how many women who are in or graduates of higher institutions courtesy, wholly or partially, of the man/men in her life? But men are useless bla.....bla...bla in you tiny brain.

A man can always find a woman even in his old age to keep him company and reciprocate him the way he wants or for fun as the many olosho joints testifies to that. For the many selfish, lazy women who dont know how to cook and hide it behind feminism, the end point is already written in the good book or last last last you will give small boys that money you are too stingy to bring out or be respectful earlier just to be used.

For men wey sabi, wetin concern us either we work hard make money and go after the humble, responsible sensible non stingy, non contentious helpmates or lay back and go after the baby or sugar mamas online or offline (as feminism will ensure adequate supply ) or both in anyway we live well.

The fact that you think that men will be better off either way, shows that your ignorance about statistics and the actual preference of women. No one in feminism is advocating for equal rights without responsibilities. Feminism has been, from the beginning, a movement that has encouraged women to work and financially contribute equally to their marriages. It's men that don't want that, because they know that with women working, the only thing that they used to bring to the relationship/marriage loses some value. If he messes up, he can no longer use that "well, shebi I pay all the bills around here" excuses anymore, because he knows that he's only paying for half of the stuff and she's paying half as well. The is the true craw that bugs a lot of men about feminism. They want to retain the power and have women dependent on them so that they can be allowed to do whatever they like. Well, too bad. Women are making more money now and with that, demanding the respect and equal treatment that they deserve. And with the worsening recession in Nigeria, every man knows that only a mumu will go with a woman that has never worked a day in her life or is making chicken change, over a woman that has her own and can contribute financially, so all of that burden isn't on him. A man that has his wife share in the financial responsibilities while expecting his wife to also do majority of the housework and do whatever he wants in the name of submission, is a useless fool that is too selfish to be a husband. And he deserves the terrible treatment and attitude from women, that he gets. Hate to break it to you, but lots of women that don't cook, get married. Lots that don't clean, get married. Sorry if that bothers you, but it happens often enough. In our current economic state, being able to cook and clean is not enough, and men know this. A lot of them are just no longer able to solely financially support their marriages. They have to find women that are making money as well, and the ability to cook and clean are often sacrificed, esp if the man can also cook and clean. A sensible man will share responsibilities instead of stupidly complaining about feminism.

Lol why is it paining you that women are giving their money to small boys for sex? It's hilarious because you're bragging about how men are running after oloshos and that means that they'll be alright at the end of the day. Yet, its paining you that women will be the same. Lol! You can insult women who do this all you want, that's your problem, but in my opinion, more power to them. Worldwide statistics actually show that married men are happier than single men, while single women are happier than married men. Men actually get a lot more from marriage than women do; married men make more money and they live longer. The women that are paying small boys are enjoying themselves. Instead of being bound to and having to take care of a man-children that will most likely be selfish in the marriage, she can be with a virile young man at the peak of his sexual prime instead of a balding, lazy old husband that demands and demands and gives little to nothing. Abeg.

Not sure where you're getting your info from (probably from other bitter, clueless men like yourself), but no, most feminists are not ugly. Sorry to inform you. A lot of them are attractive, financially successful women with good sexual acumen (and some also actually have good domestic skills, they just don't want to be the ones doing all the domestic duties all the time), and bring a lot more to the table than a woman that is sitting around waiting for 32yo Gbenga making 60k/month, to come and save her. Such a woman who has no clue about sex and is the boring, missionary, lights out scheduled sex at 8pm every Wednesday with the "Jesus does not want me to do that" mentality when it comes to every new sexual activity or position you bring to her. The one that most Nigerian men will end up cheating on anyway, with the oloshos, and then there is suddenly no more money for her to even cook stew for her children, because Gbenga did not realize that soliciting prostitutes on an 60k salary, is not conducive for being the primary breadwinner. Lol oshi.

Feminists are here to stay, and will only grow. Men can bleat like goats all they want about it, it won't change. If you're not useless and are ready to give mutual love and respect and share in household responsibilities as you're sharing in financial responsibilities, then as a man, you'll be fine. If not, in a few years/decades, you'll be left by the wayside with oloshos as your lifetime achievement and legacy, while everyone else is laughing at him. Congratulations.

Cooking should be the least thing couples argue about. Truth is that the society made our mothers, sisters, and women cooks and our fathers, man of the parlor. No. When we were bachelors, we cooked, and that debate shouldn't start after marriage except you're marrying an househelp. You should lend an assisting hand. Be together in the kitchen. Teach your male children to help out in the kitchen. Everyone should learn basic survival skills -- culinary skills especially.

If you get home early before your wife, what's stopping you from preparing dinner? It's all about love. I love my wife enough to ensure she's not hungry. To pamper her. To satisfy her and make her happy. Will she be lazy because of that? No. She'd learn to appreciate and give her best too, which is what you'd expect from a wise woman.

You're a good man. My man is like you. I pray for many like you for other deserving women.

I never understood the whole thing about the woman taking on all or most the domestic duties. Pride has truly made too many of our Nigerian men useless. And a lot of these same men are the ones that expect her to work as well, given the economic recession that we're in, a lot of men cannot afford and take on the stress of being the primary, sole breadwinners. They need financial assistance and contributions from their wives. So now imagine, both of you wake up at 7am, to go to work, you both come back around the same time and then expect her to be the only one to go into the kitchen to do work part 2, while you sit in the living room drinking Orijin and watching Arsenal vs Barcelona on the tv. Such a man is wicked and selfish. Enter the kitchen too and help her. Even if its to cut onions and keep her company. Or sometimes, send her out of the kitchen and say something like "baby don't worry, I'm making dinner tonight"

I gave this same advice to one of my colleagues at work the other day, his wife loved it so much he told me she was just smiling and pampering him around the house, for almost a week. She was so happy, she called me to thank me. He was happy to have made her happy and I'm sure he'll repeat it as often as he can. Same goes for other household tasks like cleaning or taking care of the children.

What you failed to see is that while you were busy trying to claim individual morality, you failed to understand that rape victims also have their defined moral judgement. Even if your morality is telling you to kill and rape, morality of the victim is against it. If you want to bring that argument from that angle, you'd simply say everyone should choose what they want and no one should force their will on another.

Which means no rape because the victim is not willing. No murder because the victim won't agree. The logic is simple. Everyone should have a choice. when you want to inflict your desires on another, you go against what the rule is about. Got it?

The subject of ethics is all about perspectives.

In all this rant yet if you are not delusional, you will notice the increasing number of women jumping from crusade to babalawo looking for ...here it comes....A MAN even with all their money. Who said am in any way pained by women giving money to boys? Who is pained with alternative source of income. That way guys get to enjoy an alternative source of submission in financial form. Which responsibility when most ladies cant even pay their share of the bill on a date nor deem it comfortable and normal to house a guy during a relationship? Responsobilities guys take on naturally without a second thought. Lots of guys are currently a source of poverty alleviation for lots of women (training them in school, etc) in the Nigerian society. When you've got a higher % of ladies ready to comfortably undertake such responsibilities and more equally like guys do then your case for feminism as not just a cover for selfish, irresponsible, shallow minded ladies can start making sense. For every feminism who is looking to drag equall right without equall responsibilities their are a million other girls that the man can marry who are ready to undertake cooking and cleaning as their responsibility to ensure efficiecy based on division of labour in the home. All the man has to do is change wife often and long enough having all the time on his side to do that which women dont normally have.

Feminism will even help men to easily enjoy both the money and pussy of women and bailout easily if she happens to become financial incapable since she will become utterly useless given her inability to take up cooking and cleaning. So basically the marriage or relationship is hinged on the steady supply of the womans money and if anything happens to that the man bails. Hence women will become only as useless or usefull as the money they bring in just like you accuse men to be now.

With feminism, men now have the option of fuckmates with financial benefits wow...life just got better. Which man in his beast mode will be against feminism? Imagine a man being paid for the very activity he usually pays for.

It's quite unfair to say I railed insult on (all) women. However, I admit I needed to also describe a corresponding kind of men. No hard feelings.

Bro you seem to be new at this.
You entire point here is mute.
I am making decisions based on what I DEFINE MORALITY TO BE. The key word is I. So If the individuals are to determine what morality is then I don't give a F what yours is because according to my own moral compass ANY ONE WHO CAN'T PROTECT WHAT HE HAS DOES NOT DESERVE IT.
See here, I am not a supporter of democracy because I believe the majority are usually a bunch of lazy ass dumbos who can't think for themselves. I believe more in the individual making his/her decisions But I respect the idea behind democracy because there needs to be a benchmark. A standard for morality needs to be set. Without this standard chaos will ensue.
Now don't get me wrong will all have the right to make our own decisions but we should not upset the basic balance set not just by society but also by nature, which is what feminism is trying to do.

FLAWED LOGIC.
Taking care of the little/young ones in any species IS A FEMININE ROLE! The female's emotional nature and physiology demands it. Even goats, dogs, birds etc knows this.
Now in the homosapiens species cooking IS a female role just like taking responsibility for the safety of the family is the man's.
That doesn't mean a man shouldn't help in the kitchen.

flawed logic. how do you define the dignity of womanhood without falling back to what the society has defined or what you have formed in your head. Why can't we all decide our notion of morality especially women?
if we all are to define our own notion of morality. then I can say there's nothing wrong in rape. nothing wrong in stealing or killing either its all about survival.
If you ain't strong enough to protect it you shouldn't have it.
LIKE I SAID YOUR logic is flawed. cc
WORDWORLD

grin I LIKE THE WAY YOU NAILED IT AlPeter!!!

epelumi42, indeed IRRATIONALITY is a reaction against the INTELLECT. Hehehe.......see how you have been running in circles, CONTRADICTING YOURSELF a typical characteristic of an ILLOGICAL POSTULATION.

Such illogical postulations, such IRRATIONALITY in your defense is a reason for the CRISIS OF THIS SO CALLED MORDEN WORLD.

"EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE" meaning 'FREEDOM'.

Now read your own CONTRADICTION of your PRINCIPLE of "everyone should have a choice below.

"But when you want to inflict your desires on another, you go against what the rule is about".

WHAT RULE?!

AN INDIVIDUAL RULE OR A GENERAL RULE.

DEFINED BY WHO AND HOW?!

IN A SOCIETY WHICH YOU HAVE SAID INDIVIDUALS ARE MEANT TO DEFINE FOR THEMSELVES WHAT THEY SEE FIT AS BEING MORALLY RIGHT OR WRONG?!

. IS THAT NOT CHAOS? Since "everybody should have a choice" to define what is to them "THE RULE" and what it means to them to "INFLICT THEIR DESIRES ON OTHERS".

Three core DISEASES of this so called modern world are INTELLECTUAL VACUITY, MENTAL CONFUSSION AND HYPOCRISY.

Oh. Natural order. Going by your analogy, it is a woman's role to wash clothes, cook, and all?

Even in the animal kingdom, is it the female that provides the food or the male? Or You have not seen that female animals protect their own kids too. Have you seen a male chicken (cock) cater and protect the family. See, don't come and give unapplicable analogies here. There's nothing like basic feminine role. But I ask again, who defined the homosapiens responsibility if not humans themselves? Men have always thought themselves superior to women and here we're asking, why so?

Don't even mention animals anymore because that's bullshit, my Fren.
