There are some certain Nissan years that have issues. You also have to note that Toyota is still top in reliability hence reason why it is expensive and holds its resale value.

but same can't be said for Nissan which is actually better and more rugged than Toyota in certain segment.

1. Nissan Murano. came purely with CVT transmission people didn't realize CVT is different from Automatic so the pour ATF fluid instead or CVT fluid hence the gear pack up in no time. Though the gear from factory too dey one kind due to the fact that Nissan is a pioneer of CVT transmission but as time went by they perfected it in later models.

2. Nissan Altima and maxima. the 2002 to 05 years of this Nissan too had CVT that's why it's damn cheap the gear too dey pack up with or without regular recommended maintenance. before those year and after those years were OK. Apart from transmission those year had some other minor factory design flaws.

3. Nissan quest 2005 to 2010 this one too has CVT that's the major fault has a known factory defect that was latter recalled. You can know the affect specimen by running a VIN check.

All other Nissan are good but are cheap due to the body, a lot of they just fall apart on heavy use especially when used in bad road, body starts falling like London bridge.

There are many Nissan that actually hold value as close to Toyota as it can be.

1. Nissan Xtrail very solid CUV and expensive as tokunbo and Naija used.

2. Nissan Sentry with the QD engine this one doesn't fall apart like it's close siblings I wonder why.

3. Nissan pathfinder. 2003 and 2004 especially, them cost like mad and they are indestructible (metaphor)

When buying a Nissan always check the body for rust and be weary of deformity if panel beater hit the boot for adjustment, front bumper go fall of, if he hit the door suspension go bend grin nah joke ooo
I am using Nissan venette bus, i hope it has no issues

I never said any car is cheap. And for your information the Nigerian used G35 is pure water neither does it hold the resale value. A 2005 G35 manual can be gotten for 700k while auto for less than a million buck. A 2005 Toyota Avalon which is still the closest substitute cost more than that.

If you are buying a G35 from some that knows the value,he/she will never sale at that price....I will always go for a G35 to a Camry 09

check your thermostat probably faulty.

The fan may have been connected directly, when hot the connection cuts and fan stops working. Let the rewire revert the connection back to default

use coolant in radiator instead of water.

no need to change radiator if you adhere to my instructions

Hello,
Maybe you can shed more light on this o.
Why is it that "they" always change or recommend changing the wiring of d fans when cars hit naija?
On more than 2x now that they say cars from Yankee needs to have d fan wiring changed to prevent overheating which I don't agree with.

Thanks for ur response in advance.

Tell us how the thermostat work and function with respect to the vehicle then your wisdom will be revealed

Ignorant, the thermostat regulates the Engine temperature.

Without thermostat installed, your engine operates below optimal temperature which is bad for fuel consumption and engine performances

Please help me tell them o.
I have been trying to convince my pples for ages but den no dey hear word o.

Once upon a time, Nissans literally had bomb proof reliability and were very popular in the used car market. Everything changed after the merger with Renault - a brand which has always had questionable reliability/build quality issues with most of their products. Nissan's quality control simply went downhill afterwards. This merger in 1999 brought about cost cutting and issues started popping up with their powertrains and onboard electronics. Apart from that, a lot of people here are not conversant with handling CVT equipped vehicles. CVTs are particularly unforgiving when the wrong transmission fluids are used, most nissan CVTs use Nissan Matic J which costs about 15-19k a gallon - lots of people here use the dreaded abro & Holt ATFs instead which starts the self destructive sequence of those gearboxes. New generation nissans need almost BMW level of attention to be used as daily drivers - If u are not willing to bring out time to understand them, just stay away.

XTERA IS A NOISE MAKER, PATHFINDER CONSUMES FUELS A LOT. FOR YOU TO ENJOY YOUR MURANO, U JUST HAVE TO CHANGE D ENGINE TO THAT OF COROLLA. ALL THESE ARE MODEL NOT LESS THAN YEAR 2000.

Its just a nigeria thing believe me...reasons are as follows

1. Nigerians believe Toyota is the ONLY reliable car...and the demand made Toyota cars overpriced. (Go to states like Ogun and Oyo where they use nissan as taxi, taxi drivers have low maintenance culture and these nissans still move....shows they are also reliable)

2. Resale value: Nigerians want to use a car for 10 years and still resale for a price closer to the amount they bought it despite the depreciation. (Only Toyota mentality can guaranttee that)

3. The low demand for Nissan products made the Nigerian-used cheap cos people sell at give away after waiting for so long to sell. Tokunbos are not cheap. But they are not overpriced like Toyotas.

4. The prices for toks Nissans are inline with other similar brands like Toyota, Honda, mazda and co, but the price for nigerian used of these other brands except Toyota are cheap. That tells you demand makes toyota overpriced even when they are dying.

SUMMARY: Nissan products are not cheap, they are sold in the real prices a normal dying Nigerian-used car should be sold irrespective of brand. I agree with the CVT gearing system problem with some brands like the Murano.

Note: Nissan products are not that bad...i used a 2002 nissan pathfinder. No major fault for more than a year now, just normal repairs and oil change. The SUV is designed for Nigerian roads as you dont need to border about potholes.

In USA a car can move from Texas to Ohio and is still expected to function well. I just explained the mechanical and functional reasoning behind the thermostat.

A Nigerian car would almost probably ever end it's life in USA.

For overheating problems, it is either a dirty radiator or lack of good coolant fluid. It has nothing to do with the removed thermostat

A thermostat work is to allow passage of fluid from the radiator into the engine. Also regulating the amount of fluid passing through.

Now a thermostat removed causes only 1 major issue, engine will never get to working temperature hence your fuel economy would be affected.

now a faulty thermostat on the other hand which remained closed would cause overheating of engine due to blocking enough fluid flow.

let's just leave it at that because other unholy act (running fan direct, using water instead of coolant) etc can also cause cooling system breakdown.

ODE, you can be a consultant to Peugeot Nigeria, Stallion /Dana, Innoson ,Foton and host of others and advice them to stop installing thermostat in their vehicles.

It's ignorance that causes it. Most tokunbo cars should go through maintenance when bought but we don't do it, then thermostat fails and instead of changing it, kazeem will just bypass the thing and be feeling like a god

Bros a G35 first generation 2002 to 2005 is not expensive at all manual or automatic, it has all the bells and whistles a 2011 cary would never dream of but in Nigeria here we place value on things more than others.

A 2010 Nissan sentra is miles ahead far far far advance in tech offering than a 2010 corolla. But Nigerians no wan know, they will buy 20 corolla before they even price the sentra. Then in terms of cost, the corolla price is almost twice what the sentra cost

Demand and supply in Nigeria.
Nigerians prefer to buy Toyota and Honda.

In North America, Nissan is not cheap.
A top of the line Rogue, Crv and Rav4 all sell for the same price.

I think it's just the branding issue.

I've used Sentra, almera and primaera and those cars are bloody strong. Esp the 1997 - 2001.

To me, the major problem is the poor second hand value.

The models you mentioned are the strongest of them all.

Talk about Nissan newer models, it makes you wonder whether they sold their reliability inteligence or maybe they just couldnt upgrade their engineering system just like other brand makers
